Are balance patches the most "exciting" thing to look forward to?

Balance is the single biggest flaw the game has. If I could get balance patches once per month, I would bust a nut over it. I want them way more then I want expansions, or Living Formulaic Grind episodes. GIMME MUH BALANCE.

But you're not getting them every month. You're getting a mini balance once per 2 months and a "possibly" major balance every ~5 months. I wasn't implaying with my original post that balance patches are exciting. What i tried to say is that the rest of their additions is so bad that blance patches is what's supposed to be the new "content" to keep you busy until the next expansion.

I think the major balance patches are after every lw update.

Thats usually every 2.5 to 3 months. If you are counting for delays it might go up to maybe 3 5 months.

2-3 months is what it takes to do their mini balance patch. the last balance patch is what's considered big. the one we'll see next, will be small in comparison. you'll see.

Add to that the festivals are short term events and have items that people like me just don't get enough time to complete things like weapon collections or such, so I look forward to chipping away a little more at them when those festivals return.

Trouble with any MMO these days is that content is eaten up so fast by so many... and then it's about complaining they are bored, nothing is being done the game is dead.I may not like all that comes out of the dev team, but at least we are being constantly drip fed different things new or old on a very regular basis along with some balance patches as well. Perhaps we should take a trip down memory lane, back to the days when a year or more was not unheard of for new updates to land whilst still paying a sub each month.

You know for a fact that most people enjoying the game are new players? You are full of shit quite frankly. The game remains successful and I know lots of people who have played since release and are still here like me. I've taken breaks from the game and sure it has flaws but I can appreciate living story for the quality content it is followed on from a great expansion.

Yeah I mean, I go through content so damn fast. Let's talk about it.PoF dropped 313 (!) days ago. Almost a full year. During PoF there have been a grand total of zero updates for WvW and PvP outside of balancing. PoF also did not bring anything new to these modes other than specialisations, but those change the combat a lot.

So I've been playing the same -for the first 6 months very very much unbalanced- meta for almost 10 months with no new content. "But etheri, you burn through the content so quickly!!!!"

Wing 5 was 248 days ago. W5 was some great content that even took most hardcore raid guilds busy for a while. But still, we're talking about 8 months since our last raid update. I'm sure raiders are just... raiding too fast. I mean who on earth clears a raid within half a year, right?

"Yeah but what about all the living story content!!!" Three living story episodes and the last two... honestly I wasn't impressed and they didn't take particularly long to finish. So in 0 months, we've had what... 3 maps, some fractals and one raid? Absolutely ZERO content for pvp and wvw?

Yeah I'd say balance patches shake up my gameplay far more than any content they've released this game. Too bad it takes a year from when the expansion drops and yet ... WvW meta hasn't drastically changed (altho it's close); pvp meta hasn't drastically changed, PvE DPS meta changed to some extent yet supports and overall powercreep is still very much prevalent. So frankly, even the balance changes are less of a shake-up than those in any tripple A game.

404 UPDATES NOT FOUND.

No they have a mini balance patch between lv updates and 1 bigger with lw updates.

But yes to your second point. The one we will see in a month or so (before ep4) will be a snaller one.

I don't. I also know for a fact that most (NOT all of course) people that are perfectly fine with the current state of the game are new or new'ish to gw2. Can already see the usual whiteknight saying "i play since launch and enjoy everything every day every minute of my life. gw2 is the best". Pretty common in here.

Ah, yes. The 'I know best, so everyone who disagrees with me is a rabid fan' argument. What definition do you give for 'new-ish' players? What proof can you offer to support your claim?

My 'proof' (read: anecdotal evidence) is that most I talk to are 2 - 6 year veterans, even some 13 year veterans, who are 'perfectly fine' with the state of the game.

As a side note: If you're defining 'perfectly fine' as a 100% positive review; no game, no institution will ever meet that standard.

Going by the official forums, this is exactly how it feels like when you read their comments. Infact, a 100% pisitive review would be too low, its more like a 130% game to them.

Poor balance is ignored.Abadoning wvw for years is ignored.Abandoning spvp since 201545 minutes of story (LS) per 6 months is supposed to keep you busy in an MMO

Looking bad. Real bad.

One can say the same about the game's detractors, who often present their opinions as irrefutable fact while insulting the developers. If one is to believe the loudest voices, 99% of Guild Wars 2 players reside on either extreme.

What's even better ... you don't pay a sub, so it cost you nothing to leave and come back at your leisure. What more could you ask for?

Not having to leave in the first place?

Sure ... but the game doesn't cater to an individual and you don't pay a sub. it's DESIGNED that you can take breaks. Maybe people shouldn't regard MMO's like jobs, we would have less of this kind of thread.

Ahh ye forgot the ppl that benefit the most from this game are the ones that play it the least.

They're not exciting to look forward to, quite the opposite. I'm already playing an objectively underperforming and generally outclassed weapon set but whenever anything I use comes up in the patch notes it's usually a nerf of some kind cause someone @ A-Net apparently finds it funny to make below average stuff even worse. And it's not just me seeing it, several of my friends told me something similar. Some of them even stopped playing the game entirely thx to A-Net ruining their preferred gameplay style. I don't know what exactly they're trying to accomplish with some of these changes (and it's not like their explaining their reasoning either) but someone at A-Net doesn't seem to understand that balace is worth nothing if the game isn't fun to play and that forcing gameplay X onto the players because they don't like how players play their game (on a subjective level) is also a quite stupid idea.

What do you mean? That doesn't make any sense.

People can play at their leisure; they can play for as long as THEY feel it benefits them. The OP clearly thinks there isn't much benefit for him to play this game, so it makes sense he plays less when he wants to. Can't understand what you're saying.
