Starting over again 2020

Too less info to know what you are looking for (like dps or support, pvp, pve (raids/fractals or open world)) or wvw) so you may want to take a look at:

Check what you think matches you best and don't be affraid to expiriment a bit (having a meta build does not guarantee to perform better than a build you made up suiting you as it depends a lot on your playstyle, how you handle situations etc).

There are many such builds... outside of the elementalist class.

This is a braindead tempest build I use for general purpose solo play, as well as some group content.

Pros:-almost endless condition cleanse-tons of regen, decent might-stay in fire stance almost 100% of the time-staff gives you a lot of ranged options, and you can still nuke things that get close to you too-very simple - just doing things you need to do (pushing a button to cleanse conditions, break stun, or heal) has the nice might and condi cleansing side effects-good balance of safety and damage output for someone new/new to the class-modestly adaptable - viper stats give slightly better damage numbers, and changing just a few traits can make this a more group-supportive build

Cons:-you're not going to get anywhere near the damage numbers better elementalist builds put out (on large targets with high HP, you'll eventually be able to stack enough burn to hit around 10K dps, but that's pretty low when it comes to pulling your weight in higher-end group content. fine for meta events)-it's not designed to help you make use of the other stances outside of fire-also not designed to help you make use of abilities outside of cantrips-in order to make the most use of fire staff #2 and #3 (and burn signet), you'll have to learn how to bunch up mobs a bit

@"Psycrow.8670" said:Ok but how di dhe get these low cd on the skill swaps ?

Weaver is very different from other classes, even other elementalists! When core/tempest swap attunements, their whole weapon bar (skills 1-5) changes to the same attunement. Not so with weaver because they attune to two elements at once. When weaver swaps attunements, the element occupying the 1-2 skill slots shifts to occupy the 4-5 slots, with the new attunement taking over at positions 1-2. The 3 skill is a dual skill combining both elements, which grants weaver access to 26 weapon skills rather than core/tempest's 20.

This is not entirely a positive for the weaver, however. Where core/tempest has access to all of its 4-5 skills as long as the attunement required is off cooldown, weaver is locked into their previous choice. The 4 and 5 skills they may access on their next attunement swap have already been determined by their current attunement. For this reason, weaver has the additional advantage of a 4s attunement swap cooldown as opposed to 10s for core/tempest. Taking arcane trait line as I do further reduces the attunement swap to 3.4s.

This produces a rather fast-paced and complex play style that I think a lot of players struggle with. I struggled with it, too. But it finally clicked for me and now I can't play anything else! LoL

I thought this link might be helpful, too. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Weaver

Make a different class. Elementalist is not the best pick for a new player.

Common recommendations for new players are:

  • ranger
  • warrior
  • necromancer
  • guardian

Quite simply because their class mechanics are more strait forward and similar to other MMORPG games. Elementalist, Mesmer and Engineer can be a bit rough to get in on.

To @"Psycrow.8670" :I started out on ele, went with mesmer (my second main for many years), changed into ranger and now I play mostly with my engineer (Scrapper).Engineer is actually easier to play as you don't need to keep your illusions alive (until you shatter then), you don' t need to keep your pet alive (as you pet very fast can loose HP and get useless until it can be changed to to second pet or healed up).

Engineer are different as you only need to use your utility skills to replace your main weapon bar (compared to other profession we don't have many weapon choices), but we have much better control with stuns, daze and movement, We procs sigils that are "on swap" by changing utility skills called Engineer kits (we can not swap weapon while in combat - same as base elementalist). Those kits are skills that when they activated will replace your weapon bar with new skill set and can be changed fast with another engineer kit if you more then one on utility (there are healing and elite kits too). Just don't go overboard with too many kits. I find it is easier to have dedicated healing then a med kit as an example when you are not going to provide healing for a group (and most of our healing skills have some kind of built in support for group anyway).

Scrapper (engineer specialist) have access to AoE stealth with combo field (blast it blind or AoE stealth - depending on finisher) as elite skill which are helpful in PvE when you want to rez someone, get out of danger or just run away. We have superspeed, stability and might (from trait) that work together to make Scrapper good at standing in danger without getting killed (and out healing is among the better one compared to those of mesmer, ele or ranger). Our F1-F5 change with which healing skill, utility and gyro (Scrapper trait) we pick. With that we have a second heal or regen that keep us alive, movement from superspeed and Swiftness (and some from different engineer kit skills). We can cleans pretty well condition damage from picking trait, skills or a combination.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Engineerhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scrapper - when you have enough Hero Points or Challenger to use - you can use https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tome_of_Knowledge to get HC points or go to PoF (each Hero Challenge reward 20 points instead of 1 point). If you play WvW you can buy random HC for WvW currency.

As for gear I would suggest get most of your trinkets with Concentration (for boon duration) and Power as main damage source (not condition damage). Berzerker is a good combo as it will give you base power, precision and ferocity (most of all three stats compared to quad attribute where you also have concentration as forth attribute).

Here is list of different combination of attributes. You filter which is major stats and minor stats to find out what combination that you might have easier to get or even buy at Black Lion Trade Post. (Quad attributes are rather expensive compared to triple attributes. You have to search in TP buy using power and then sort in TP window after price as TP haven't been designed to filter out quad stats. Remember that you can change look in Hero Panel if you have skim for that weight of armour or that weapon.) Bloodstone Fen and some other maps do also have trinkets that you can farm rather fast. You can change attribute for trinkets when you buy a gizmo at vendor sometimes and you have access to decide which attribute you want to set the first time from "costume" option when you click that trinket.

If you lack armour for that weight or enough Gold to buy on TP, then Berserker work well enough and should be easy to get for Karma or any other currency (use GW2 wiki to see what options there is). Concentration helps as Scrapper have a lot of boons that adds up with regen (heal over time effect), stability (yes even in PvE you need stability when you fight in Icebrood saga maps as there are a lot creatures that can do knock down etc) and Might/Fury.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Pack(This a rather cheap rune for around 2 silver for each rune and you need 7 as you also need it on your UW breather to keep your bonus).

Use attribute to have a base Vitality to increase your HP around 16-20 K and some Toughness. You can replace it later if find out that want to do more damage and can still keep alive with less Vitality (condition damage can very fast eat up all 20 K and high damage isn't necessary a good thing when you are downed or even dead during events).

Here are my build: https://gw2efficiency.com/c/Znxizchi

Don't become obsessed with ascended weapon or armour. I could craft my own hammer and when you unlock Scrapper you get one exotic that you can pick which attribute you want. Scrapper (trait) change how Gyro work (F5) and I picked stability from Mass Momentum as it give 3 players stability (small AoE) when used. If you change to System Chocker you will instead to a stun with F5. Gaining Might from Stability is also more useful during boss phases like Claw of Jormag. Object in Motion (second trait - Major Master) synergise well with first and you have plenty of swiftness, superspeed and stability (which is why the fist trait in Mass Momentum is useful). As for Grandmaster I have tried both Applied Force and Kinetic Stabilizers. Quickness is useful when you have enough Might (need to be above 10 stack) and Kinetic is useful when you can CC (in PvE this isn't a big problem, but in WvW it can be mitigated by stability on target your try to CC).

In short Scrapper is a good starting point as it have different tools for different needs, can survive heavy condition environments if build for it (but you still need to be careful to not burn or move yourself to death). Scrapper have the best healing skills without any investment into healing power (for yourself) and can still support PUGs during events/meta and in WvW. The cost to get a good build up and running isn't too high either as you can get rune for as low as 2 silver each or 14 silver, weapon sigils that work well and no need to decide for going for rune or sigils to get movement (25% movement speed bonus) as you have superspeed and swiftness from different skills and traits. Our weakness are most of skills are medium range, so we need to stay close to target we ony have pistol (medium range weapon) and shield or hammer to pick between. Shield is pretty good, but pistol is more a condition weapon. Sword is only for Holosmith (same as Hammer is only for Scrapper).

Just a warning: don't use any trait or rune that trigger damage, if you use Sneak gyro (elite). You don't want to break stealth just from using a healing skill (trait), so be aware that some combination can have unintended consequences.
