Skyscale collection

Recommended Posts

It's turning out to be a lot more trouble than I thought it would be. I don't really expect the devs to change the process cause of this post or anything, its more a rant to get some stuff on my chest.

Namely, the Saving Skyscales part. It's proving to be remarkably tedious and annoying-or at least some of it is. Some of the magic absorb spots you need to find are either infuriating to get to or locked in maps that I don't have and would have to buy-guides i found gave me the impression I would only need two of the episodes for the collection.

I also can't seem to get into Bitterfrost Frontier for one of the ice ones, even though I've played through all of IBS. The portal to get there is blocked for me.

Now I've encountered a point were I have to somehow get up to a magic spot in the Blazeridge Steppes-all the way up on some stupidly difficult to target pillar on the wall....now I'm back to questioning if the skyscale is really worth all this trouble.

Don't get me wrong, it's fine for getting it to have a lot of steps. I don't even mind the prospect of grinding the currency-I have Dragonfall and the Bjora marches, so while that would take a while, that's fine with me. The part where I'd need to buy a lot of stuff from trading post I can always cheese with gems. If i do ever get to the part were you feed the skyscale, that part is one that I wouldn't mind either, as it sounds as simple as feeding the dragon daily, which is A ok.

My current issue with it is that if you missed lws4, you have to buy all the maps, just to access maybe three magic essences. I also really don't get why the part where you absorb magic into the eggs couldn't have been one magic spot for each magic type-or at least, been like the Spirit, Earth, Life, Air, and Blood ones. AKA, all of which were not a big headache to acquire and required only core PoF, HoT, and Tyria maps to get. Also not thrilled that one of the magic points is connected to the super complicated Augury Rock event with the dopplegangers.....

I basically don't get why this thing has to have so many frickin' substeps. I can only imagine what the part where you have to chase the dragon is like. From what I've also gathered, the part with the rifts sounds almost as tedious as the part I'm on now.

none of this is necessarily hard to do, its mostly just getting annoying. If all the magic essences were as simple to attain as the ones I listed above, I'd be having a alright time-those ones were actually pretty enjoyable to get.

In short, is the Skycale really worth all this? cause I've already got the griffon springer duo, and honestly, as much as I like dragons, I'm starting to remember why I switched to getting the griffon when I first started the skyscale and saw all the steps.

Bitterfrost frontier is a LW season 3 map not part of IBS.  The good news for you is that Anet is currently releasing all living story episodes for free.  A new episode every week or so.  So when they get to LS4 if you have not unlocked them they will be free as long as you login during each episode's window and you won't have to buy it as long as you don't mind waiting until then.   Also the free episode for Bitterfrost should be in a few weeks.

As for the Skyscale yes I think it is totally worth it.  I use it more than any other mount by far.

yeah, that's true.

Mostly just getting a little irritated at how many moving parts they decided to have for these collections. Kind of feels like overkill in a lot of ways-I don't even mind the timegating or the idea of collecting the currencies that much...the rest is what is currently making me wonder if the mount's all that.

I also have bad spacial awareness when it comes to jumping puzzles, so thats not encouraging either.

For skyscale you need the entire 4th season unlocked.

Augury Rock isn’t complicated. You show up when it starts and do the escort to gain access. You can then get the part of the collection you need there.

It takes a while but just pace yourself and don't try to do it all at once.  Again I think it is totally worth the effort.  As for parts with jumping puzzles, the only ones I really remember were for the Skyscale lost achievement and you can use Extra-Pungent Skyscale Treats to skip all those if you want.   Also while you are waiting for the free episodes from season 4 and since you have  IBS unlocked you might want to start using Eternal Ice Shard to buy season 4 map currencies because you will need 250 of each map currency for the Skyscale saddle.    That way you are prepared for it when you get to that part.

I remember the Blazeridge Steppes JP being a pain, and I'm decent at Jumping Puzzles. On the other hand, it was one of the best sites in the game with the Shatterer flying so close by, it felt like you could reach up and touch it. For me, getting to the top was worth it just for that.

That's also a great spot for griffon flying!

It's worth it though, when i got my skyscale, especiall when you master it fully - my game transformed! It's SO worth it and i'm glad people convinced me to get the skyscale first when i was asking on the forums, was torn between griffon or skyscale. Now i have all the mounts and none (except bunny) are obsolete still. But Bunny was instrumental in finishing skyscale, i couldn't have gotten most of the collections without it.

Have you tried TacO? It's an overlay for GW2, shows routes and where stuff is - it might be easier to do with it.

Bitterfrost Frontier is LS3, but if you're doing the "Skyscale of Ice" part - you can do that on the Jormag event in core map. The pre-event has some mobs that can freeze you, just get frozen there.

Yes, that's a tricky one. But if you like griffon flying, you'll be back there for more. Especially when you get your skyscale, it's so easy to get there after that.

Yes, that part is easy with money. I had materials for all the food myself so i didn't have to spend anything on it, but yeah, you can just buy stuff off TP. And you'll get there don't worry. Seriously, try TacO. Google it. It's really helpful. There's also a lot of Youtube guides on every part of Skyscale collection.

All the LS episodes will be given out for free now so just log in and wait for the ones you don't have to unlock. As for Augury Rock, it's one of the easiest metas ever, just escort the NPC around a few times, beat the boss and wait for the doppelganger. It's really not that complicated, i even Commanded Augury Rock myself a few times and i don't do that unless i know what to expect.

Well, consider the Skyscale kind of like a "Legendary" mount. Just like all legendary weapons, armor and trinkets, it takes a while because you're getting the absolute best there is! For reference, Beetle and Griffon would be "Ascended" mounts and all others would be "Yellows" in terms of what they allow you to do. So just like any legendary collection, just stick with it and you'll get it eventually. It's important to pace yourself. Like, i'm on the last stretch of Aurora, just need to get enough Jade shards to buy some thing from Myani, and it's just one day at a time. Before that - i didn't even try to actively work on the collection for weeks at a time. Just, when "i was in the area" like, i wanted to do some LS3 maps for currency for some ascended trinkets, and then did a few stuff while i was there. When i was in the mood for JPs i did the JPs required (Prototype Position Rewinder is a MUST there). Stuff like that.

Skyscale rifts is just to teach you how to fly it. You just follow a trail of Volatile Magic that refills your Skyscale's stamina each time you get one so you can fly in a predetermined path for a lot longer than you would normally. It's actually fun, i enjoyed that part, and it's the easiest one. Once you get to that, you're basically already done with your Skyscale collection.

Like i said, pace yourself. You said it yourself, it's not hard to do, it just takes time. So in order to not get annoyed, if something isn't going as planned, revisit it some other day. It'll still be there.

As for the Skyscale itself?

It's totally worth it!

No one could explain to me how much Quality of Life improvement it is, and i doubt i'll be able to rely teh sentiment as well until you actually start using it. But it's a whole new game after you get it, totally worth doing the collection to get it!

Griffon and Springer combo will get you someplaces, but Skyscale is a whole different beast, you'll see!

And if you have the LS4 masteries as well, to refill health, stamina and launch yourself off the mount, it's a huge bonus.

Just keep at it, pace yourself, and you'll see that it will have been worth it!

Bitterfrost frontier will be acquirable for free in some weeks, in this week, the released LS3-EP1 for free, Bitterfrost is ep3..

Skycale collections is a HUGE exercise of patience, the first step, if u arent a gw2 veteran, is setup a slow agenda, forget about get it in 3 days, keep in mind 1~2 months, this is the key to dont burnt out yourself.

Second, keep in mind that Skycale is like the "legendary" of mounts, once u get it, its makes lots of vertical travel VERY trivial, like access vistas or even skip Jumping Puzzles, or navigate HOT maps like verdant brink, thats probably one reasons that they made it so hard.

For annoyng scavenger hunt i have 2 screens, one GW2 and another a map with spots marked,,, if u dont have dual screen, use ur mobile phone with some guide/map opened, this will relief lots of time/frustation with alt-tabbing to check some guide.

In my opinion, the Skyscale is very much worth working for. There are alot of sub collections & quests & gathering of currencies, but for me it was completely & resoundingly worth every minute spent.

All the mounts in this game are worth getting & upgrading. The Skyscale is the cherry on the sundae!

yeah, it'll happen eventually.

Mounts have movement impacts on your game, which is pretty much why I even decided to pursue the dragon at all.

Legendary gear has never really been something I've wanted, mostly because ascended gear works fine for basically everything i do in the game as it is-open world events and low level fractals with very little Agony, very slowly leveling alts, replaying story chapters.. So embarking on a journey like the skyscale's will probably be a one time journey for me when it comes down to it, as the obvious benefit to the mount is keeping up with event trains and exploration.

The dragon will probably be worth it. Considering how much i'm not enjoying certain steps though, i doubt I'll ever want to do something like this for gear.

For skyscale u just need all lw s4 maps, episode 6 completed and afaik episode 3 or 4 to the point where u unlock the sun's refuge.

tbh thr skyscale collection is just plain easy. Its just overwhelming by the amount of collections but its 80% of the time just port to A and run to point B.

The finding skyscale is completely skipable in 5min by using food and 150ish gold.
