Cantha's technology

i still think this whole jade technology started after we started killing of the elder dragons and the magic from their deaths started to seep into the jade.

In the livestream they said they made a timeline of events in gw2 and how each would have affected Cantha

This would make the "dragon" aspect of Dragon Jade a coincidence. That is possible but I would think a purposeful path for the Dragon empire towards DragonJade would be more compelling.

you can get the chemical formula of jade online and do some speculating by manipulating the formula..

sort of an esoteric chemistry or alchemy..

and asuras do some alchemy too..

like according to the wiki, the oracle bone script of jade is shaped like the Phoenician letter samekh.

in Greek Isopsephy, xi is derived from samekh...

and you go to Roman Numerals, xi is 11

11 is Sodium in the Periodic table..

and we all know that elemental Sodium explodes in H2O..

we could infer that jade is sort of a catalyst or component for some reaction that produces energy/heat via "explosion".

of course, you need to compartmentalize this to create an "explosion" engine..

and jade is a catalyst/component/cryptogram essential to that engine.. maybe to produce elemental Sodium and freshwater directly from sea water. and both reacts to become sea water again, and process repeats with jade forming sodium and freshwater (....).

and phoenicians are who? thalassocratic tribe aka water peoples.

fitting for the Luxon peoples, who are said to be expert in engineering in the GW lore...

I'm hoping that Canthans have trains. I have always found bizarre that, for all the talk about industry and mastery over steam and steel, the Charr never invented trains despite its huge strategic and economic utility. Perhaps we could have a trans-Canthan railway bringing jade from the Jade Sea to Kaineng's industries.

A problem with trains is that for them to be viable, you really need to control the territory that the lines run through as well as the stations themselves. Ascalon is full of things that might decide to break train tracks, so sending heavily armed convoys through might make more sense for the charr.

Could be an interesting alternative to asura gates for Cantha, though, depending on the situation there.

well there are minecarts ingame, and rails, just no locomotive or some sort

2NaCl + 2H2O (+jade) -> (1) 2Na + 2H2O + Cl2 -> 2NaOH  + H2 + Cl2** -> 2NaOH + 2HCl** -> 2NaCl + 2H2O (+jade) -> (1)

** catalyst needed

Combining H2 + Cl2 has a negative enthalpy thus the process is exothermic (releases heat/energy)

Hydrogen chloride may be formed by the direct combination of chlorine (Cl2) gas and hydrogen (H2) gas; the reaction is rapid at temperatures above 250 °C (482 °F). The reaction, represented by the equation H2 + Cl2 → 2HCl, is accompanied by evolution of heat and appears to be accelerated by moisture.

you just need the engine with proper transport tubes to individual compartments to channel proper chemicals so that it will be like a perpetual heating machine.. the temperature needed to successfully combine both gases will be ushered by the sodium "exploding"...

and ratio this engine with the size of a large ship that can tread oceans...

  • 3 months later...

It's a small thing, but I wonder if Banknotes will be a currency in Cantha, like Elona had Trade Contracts. It would be neat to reinforce the overall modernity theme. Besides, the first banknotes were issued in China in the 11th century (preceded by promissory notes in the 7th century), and Europe shifted towards it as means of payment by the mid-17th century.
