Mystic Forge says I need four

So I throw 3 jackal pups and 2 unidentified dies into the mystic forge and it says I need four items. Why? How do I do this? When I try to throw in individual jackals, it doesn't seem to let me.

You need to split the stack (alt+click) of pups in your inventory into singles, then each one will appear in the forge UI, allowing you to put in 1, 1, 1 pups and 2 dyes.

At first I tried your method. It wouldn't work for me. However, I had a fourth jackal and for some reason splitting into stacks of 1-2-1 worked. Thanks

Sometimes, you need to add the items to the forge in a different order to get it to work (even if the stacks look identical). No one is quite sure why the order should matter ever nor why when it does, it is inconsistent from account to account or even at different times for the same person.

Also, you need to split your stacks with the Forge closed. Well, not exactly that -- but the Forge won't show the splits until you close and reopen it, as it takes a snapshot of your bags when you open it and works off that. So divide your pups into as many in a pile as you can and then you can churn through the recipes most efficiently.

It recognizes stacks just fine. It won't split them up into multiple stacks, which is different from being "broken that way."

I confirm: If you have the dialog box of the forge opened, you cannot modify your inventory. You must first close the forge window, then modify your inventory and then re-open forge.I had to learn that as I wanted to craft mystic clover single wise a while ago. :)

but if you only need 3 of one item and one of an item then it should recognize the stack as 3 items, which is the broken part of the MF.
