  1. Ok, screw how it works in other games, and screw rng in particular. I'm talking about having a specific challenge and being rewarded with a specific skin (like the ones in the GS) to show that you've succeeded.
  2. Well, it's the idea to have more skins be achievable from these activities as a proof of your accomplishments and I made some random example for an achievement which can be changed to anything similar, which is the purpose of giving an example. Challenge -> challenge completed -> skin earned -> show off the skin as proof of having completed that specific challenge So not a number to sum up the total number of achievements, but skins to represent the specific achievement. So INSTEAD of the skins being in the cash-shop, attainable through money gained from ANY source, they are achieved by doing a SPECIFIC activity to represent that you succeeded doing that SPECIFIC activity. To give players more things they can actively chase after and give the items more meaning than "this cost me 1200 gold". Is that concept and its appeal really so hard to grasp for people? I'm serious. It's baffling to me how many people seem to completely miss the point of the entire issue.
  3. Yea, the raid is an important part of it though. Having some kind of challenge for the reward is the idea. The brainstormy idea was to have that alongside LW, not as a replacement. It should have nothing to do with LW at all.
  4. Flooding the player with unneccessary items or items you might want to collect is common-practice in games that sell you storage of any sort. Create a problem, sell the solution. To be fair ANet is far far less obnoxious about it than most other f2p games I've tried out in the past. I feel like it's a nuisance, but not an issue if that makes sense.
  5. First of all, thank you for making a reasonable comment here. I also don't think going p2p is feasible for this game. Could you see yourself buying gems for something like a mini-expansion, which contains one map and a challenging raid (or maybe even a proper dungeon? 😮), which has unique rewards like weapon or mount skins? I'm just brainstorming here.
  6. And that last part is the issue he has. He wants more of these items to be earnable through specific activities. Not "whatever" activities. Where do you get the idea it has be tied to some unpleasent grind in the first place? The wish is to have, for example the chocobo-raptor skin, as a reward to completing Mythwright Gambit. Or the Swaggering Hat for doing Fractal 100. Stuff like that. The idea is that the item/skin represents some very specific in-game accomplishment, OTHER than accumulating gold. It incentivizes people to do a certain activity if they want the skin, thus giving the player direction. Skins are then also not only a symbol of wealth, but can represent the skill and accomplishments of the player. People are going so REEEEEE about the idea of a sub-model, they completely ignore or refuse to see the actual issue some people have with the reward system.
  7. Can't believe there are people that are so insecure they perceive emojis as toxicity 🤨
  8. Is it kind of like what people refer to as "peer-pressure"? I really actually never encountered that or thought about it. Lucky me, I guess?
  9. I don't know anyone who does that personally, but I see the point. Would be a different thing if you were able to just pause a subsciption, but that's usually not possible and/or involves a lot of effort (talking to support/billing). I guess it's kind of like pre-ordering a game. Shouldn't do that.
  10. @Zephire.8049 I usually don't play a game when there's no content to play, which is when I unsub. You're making it sound as if you're forced to play during content droughts.
  11. No argument against that it would most likely kill the player-base, your reasoning is illogical though. People enjoy games in different ways and the payment model is not defining what is fun to them. It influences which design decisions can or must be made in order to make the product profitable. Edit: It's these design decisions, which are influenced by the payment model, that people have different opinions on. I don't know anybody who "enjoys" paying money in any way, no matter what kind of payment model. Going into insult-mode, because you disagree with, or don't understand the way someone else enjoys his video games just throws the accusations you're making right back at you.
  12. I don't get what the title has to do with the posts content. What are your hopes?
  13. I think you might have misunderstood what OP meant. He wants more skins, especially the ones for mounts, to be unlockable through specific ingame activities, like a griffon skin as proof for successfully clearing a specific raid. A lot of vanity items are a testimony to either the amount of time spent grinding or cash thrown, rather than proof of skill.
  14. That's actually the reason why I looked for other MMOs to play and finally gave GW2 another try.
  15. The same logic can be applied to anything really. Resolution to partially ignore the pain of an axe hits you in the face, resolution to stand your ground when a gigantic rock rolls over you, etc. The word is just not specific.
  16. @Riaenvyr.2091 I don't think pointing out to people how they obviously miss the point is going to be very productive. If they missed the point OP was making, they certainly won't get yours. No offense, but your posts are hard to read and understand at times. OP said he'd enjoy the game more if it was sub-based because it could allow the games reward system to be structured differently and that is his primary issue with the game. The rewards system. He's explaining how he would enjoy the game more (more skins being unlocked via in-game accomplishments) and concludes that changing the payment model would accomplish that. Other people are totally on-topic when they argue that they wouldn't play if the game was changed to p2p. They are against the proposed solution OP was giving (sometimes in an overly dramatic and sometimes insulting way, but it's on-topic). To everyone: Wouldn't this discussion be a lot more productive if we proposed other solutions to the problem (:mount skins and subjectively too many other skins not being available through in-game accomplishments), rather than collectively bashing OPs proposed solution? I do believe there are ways to accomplish what OP is asking for without changing the payment model, but I'll need to think about it more.
  17. @voltaicbore.8012 I really enjoyed reading your take on the difference in convenience between f2p / b2p and p2p and how GW2 fares in regard to competitors. Great input! You ended the post pointing out that this doesn't take into account the reward structure. I'd love to read another one of those posts where you write about that topic.
  18. Depends on the content. I assume he's just exaggerating out of frustration.
  19. You can use it to delete any breakbar, yes. And afaik that is its primary use.
  20. No, it literally isn't, stop lying about what I think, thanks. Call me a liar again. You obviously don't want to make sense. I'm done here.
  21. I feel like this thread needs a poll with things like "Yes, the more the better", "No, please, no!" and "No, ANet should find ways to make the current ones be worthwhile instead". Something like that..
  22. You say "sub-based MMOs have cash shops too" and when presented with "well, it's a difference when you have exactly 0 mounts attainable through gameplay vs over 400" you go "you cant compare those 2 games" This does make you appear like a person that is hard to argue with if you want to stay sane. I don't think you have the moral high ground here, buddy.
  23. Home instance, yes, the rest, no. Stop ignoring half of what I say: Vanity AND convenience. Again, stop ignoring half of what I say That's how you interpret literally everyone simply saying "housing is a feature I'd like to see". And again you say "it's not". It's not for you. For other people it is. And I NEVER said how much of a deal it is to me. It's something I'd like to see and depending on the implementation can see myself enjoying. Now you interpret this as "Ohmygaud housing the moooost important thing evaaaaah". And it's not what I say and DEFINETELY not what I mean. Apart from the hypocritical part where you just claimed the opposite to be true, yes. Then neither do all other convenience and vanity items in the game, because skins have no "actual impact" as well. You immediately go and contradict yourself with this, but oh well.. Yes, it directly competes with these things, because it could render them obsolete. My reason for housing is that it's a much better version of it, which also offers people a creative outlet and can even be integrated into the economy as well. So just to make it clear, because people seem to misinterpret a lot of things: Yes, I want to see housing. It's NOT the top priority to me at this moment. (PvP improvements and more challenging content being added to the open world are. Not sure in which order though)
  24. Cheese is the best food! Argue this! Again, correct me if I'm wrong, your point is that the f2p model has influenced the game for such a long time in so many aspects, changing the model now would not be feasible because "f2p" runs too deep in its core? And the rest is not arguing in favor of a model change, but simply pointing out when someones argument doesn't make sense or is flawed, because you.. just dislike flawed arguments?
