  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't @Riaenvyr.2091 just arguing that changing the payment model could/should allow ANet to add more of the items that are currently only available in the game-store into the game as in-game rewards for specific achievments and that he'd like that a lot more than grinding for gold/gems to directly buy it from the store?
  2. Define meaningful. Important to the playerbase? Financially beneficial to the company? Mechanically important to a players progression? I am very sure Path of Exile greatly benefits from their "housing" system.
  3. If you're not into decorating a house, not much. It would simply be a little more convenient, because you wouldn't need to go anywhere else for the things you mentioned. The big draw of housing systems usually isn't about big functionality, but about convenience and player expression. I take it you also don't care much about unlocking new weapon- and armor skins then?
  4. The "new" thing is that it's a place where you have all these things under one roof. Literally. You can't customize EotN in a free-form way and the same goes for the Lounge. It's about adding convenience and combining it with player expression. At this point I'm not even sure if you might miss the point on purpose, really.. If home instances were expanded upon in a significant way, so you have all these things that are typical for what people refer to as "housing" then, yea, sure, that would work just fine, but that would be such a drastic change that it isn't really the static "home-instance" we currently have anymore. It's like the difference between dungeons, fractals and raids. Regarding your next post.. Claiming it's not a pull for a massive group of players is literally the same as claiming it is. It's an assumption without any evidence to back it up. So while I agree that it's bad to simply say it's "greatly needed" and stuff like that, it's very hypocritical to point that out while also claiming the opposite is true without having any evidence to back that up. Arguing about their ressources is silly, because we neither have the insight to know how much money they have nor how much time it would take to implement it. And we also don't know what the pay-off would be because, again, you don't know how many people would be invested into housing or how many people would be drawn to the game because of it. And neither do I for that matter. That's what market research is for, but sadly we don't see that enough within games. What we CAN argue about is if it's a priority and how high/low we think that priority is relative to other things that need to be addressed.
  5. Bringing things to the table is literally what housing is about. Like chairs, some flowers, maybe a tea-pot, you know? Oh, put a chandelier above! Beautiful. ☺️ The housing IS the gameplay. If you can add and unlock some portals/asura gates to the home instance, it can be a really nice little hub for the player. Maybe a training dummy in a room to play around with specs. Lots of convenience can be build into this like bank-access, vendors and crafting stations. Speaking of crafting. These items like furniture and the test dummy for example, could also be integrated into the current crafting professions, which gives that part more content as well.
  6. So the earth actually became round because less people said it's flat? Fascinating. I like this idea. Would probably work great in some psychedelic fantasy setting. This is reality though, so that logic doesn't work. Also, you haven't stated an opinion, unless telling people to stop having an opinion is an opinion. 😵
  7. Stop asking for a new expansion when we already have HoT and PoF...🙄 Your logic eludes me.
  8. During my time playing the game I've come across quite a lot of people which are quite obviously botting the game. The script they're using is also extremely simple (anyone with at least some programming skills can cook that up) and a behavior you can easily recognize, so detecting those can't be the issue. I'm just genuinly curious as to what kind of botting isn't allowed then. Where do they draw the line?
  9. Well, necromancer minions are used very much. By bots/afk-farmers. Jokes aside, there really seem to be quite a lot of skills that have very niche usage at best and seem to be entirely neglected to the point where they don't even properly interact with their associated trait (Bow of Truth + Eternal Armory). Some skills are niche by design, because they have a mechanic that simply doesn't do anything in a lot of encounters and/or are overshadowed by other skills (Wall of Reflection/Shield of the Avenger) and those should be looked at first IMO. There's that thing game devs tend to do in these kinds of games where they deliberately make some skills/characters better than others, so they can change which skills are viable/meta with balance patches and create the illusion of new content (I know GGG, Riot and Blizzard are doing that). I can't speak on the balance shifting in this game because I haven't played long enough, but I see there are skills that are left behind. What I can and will say is that I hate the idea of deliberately changing the balance to create that illusion. If you play a game long enough, you see it for the lazy "keeping it fresh"-attempt that it is, so I don't want to see them taking this route. Proper balance across all skills and specs is what you should always go for IMO.
  10. Hmm.. in my own experience I was way more emotionally invested in games when my life was at a really bad place because games were my escape, so I think your assumption is flawed there. Feeling betrayed is pretty normal when you're heavily invested in something, spend money on it in good faith and then get something that is not even remotely close to the expectations you had. Thankfully, I am not one of those, but if I was heavily invested in the game, yea, I'd feel betrayed too. I'm just disappointed and don't have high hopes for future content.
  11. I don't think getting a new trait based on the specs you chose is feasible, because there is no way of knowing what kind of trait would even make sense, because the traits you choose can't impact the "combination trait". With the base specs alone you would need 10 of these combination traits. If you include the current 2 elite specs you need a total of 30 combination traits. That's actually more than 2 whole specializations. And I'd much rather see more core specializations and new skills than a single trait on top of what we have. I won't go into the math here, but more specializations, with their trait selection, also offers an insanely higher number of combinations, than the proposed combination trait.
  12. The names of the boons don't really make too much sense with what they do. Resistance = Resistance to condition damage Resolution = can't be soft CCed It just makes much more sense IMO.
  13. The roadrunner mount. I have an inexplicable desire to ride chocobos.
  14. oh and for the record i never called you a casual. i only mentioned that even the most casual of the players who play gw2 have attained these grinds with time. there's nothing in my replies that specifically mention you being a casual. have a good day/evening. Can we please stop considering "casual" an insult? How people spend their free time while playing a video game is entirely up to them. Considering "casual" an insult suggests otherwise.
  15. Dude, you're contradicting yourself. What is it required for then? "Required" and "optional" is always in context to what you're trying to complete. If it is possible to complete something without it, it is considered "optional".
  16. First of all the jumping puzzles are a part of the exploration and I love this game for rewarding exploration. The really obvious jumping puzzles I don't like so much. When a part of the world obviously looks like a mario stage it's a bit weird to me. When I spot a small hole in the wall I can squeeze through to find a hidden passage or I feel like I'm going somewhere I'm not supposed to go when in reality there's a hidden chest or MP or any kind of reward there waiting for me, I smile. I like that.So I'm not that much of a fan of the obvious jumping puzzle, but the hidden passage and seemingly impassable terrain (which could also be considered a jumping puzzle) I like. The earliest example would be The Breached Wall and the HP/vista there. It's close to impossible to not call it a jumping puzzle, but to me it was built into the world so seamlessly I had this "Ahh"-effect when I knew where to go. So that one is an example of a jumping puzzle I liked. I'll try to stay on the topic of the title now.To me the core tyria experience was really boring for the most part, apart from some exceptions in exploration, but I get that there are people who like it.My primary problem with it is how extremely easy it is, with close to no encounter to really test your arsenal on. Soloing champions is the only challenge to be had there and I think the jump in difficulty from the normal mobs to trying to solo champions (most of them at least) is too big.Now I'm not saying "make every mob in core tyria harder", I'm saying there should be some content there that is more in between those two things and I wonder why there isn't. They even have a rank for that - Elite.I think adding some optional, semi-hidden Elite fights to the maps would go a long way in making the core experience more interesting and diverse, while still being able to chill and auto-pilot through the current core tyria experience. Another thing I'd really love to see more is build-diversity and -customization.Yes, there are a lot of possible trait and weapon combinations, but only a handful are actually practical and usually lock you in a specific weapon.I'd like to see more core skills and specializations added to the game as well as some way to customize your weapon skills. (No, not sigils, the skills themselves)What I mean by that is it being possible for a warrior to adjust his sword skills in a way that makes it reasonable to use it on a power build and for guardians to adjust their sword skills to reasonable on a condition build, as an example.
  17. Hi there, noob here. I don't think it's a "slight" overreaction.I don't really see the point of being polite at the expense of honesty. How am I supposed to know I am doing badly if no one is telling me? You can tell people they need to improve at something without being hurtful.Critique is important for a group if you face a challenge you can't seem to overcome and being able to understand critique as that and not as an insult is a basis anyone should possess in order to be a functional decent human being. Doesn't matter if in a video game or in real-life. A few days ago I did fractals for the first time and specifically searched for a group that said "anyone is welcome" and made it clear I haven't done any of them before and just wanted to try them out. One of them explained to me how it works and I still made some stupid mistakes, most likely because I was a bit nervous making these mistakes. He still carried the fight. Afterwards he said I panic roll too much and should try to time my aegis better for blocking attacks instead just using it for the heal.I thanked him for the advice and carrying and that's it.In a situation like OP described there are only two reasonable reactions to what he did.Either respond with something like "good call" or even better, ask for advice. Can you be more transparent on whose side you're taking?Cause the way you worded your posts is very confusing. You quote me and start the post with "hello, noob here". Is that implying i called someone a noob? Also slight is in quotation marks. Does that mean you think the reaction was too severe or not severe enough? And are you the person OP is talking about in their post or what? What's your story have to do with anything?Cause you worded everything that it all contradicts itself so i don't exactly know what point you're arguing...I thought it's pretty clear. I'm a noob rn. I'm new to the game. Noob, newb, newbie. You know. The meaning of the word. ^^'That's all there is to that.I put quotation marks on "slight" to emphasize which part specifically I disagree with. It's a massive overreaction. My story has something to do with it because I've had a somewhat similar experience, in the sense that one person pretty much carried the group, but from the other perspective and the reaction of the people OP was playing with made absolutely no sense to me, even from their perspective.I don't think I am contradicting myself, I think you are trying to read something between the lines when there's nothing there. No offense.

  19. Oh, I did try and manage to solo some of the HPs. The Balthazar one was actually one of them (why is it notorious?). I had to adjust my build for most fights as I couldn't find a build that could do all of them solo. In fact I never managed to solo the frog in Verdent Brink for example, because I either died or the time ran out. His invisibility into stunlock dagger combo messed me up most of the time. I probably need better gear too =P To be honest, I think GW2 would already see a considerable improvement to their purchases if they simply improved the shops performance. The gem store window lags and stutters so heavily, it discourages from browsing their inventory to the point where I don't bother looking through it all. I haven't played GW2 long enough to know anything about which systems they've added and/or abandoned, but the topic seems strangely familiar to me.Another game I used to play quite a lot is Warframe, which I also quit playing because of a lack of challenging content paired with way too much repetitive rng.As I said, I haven't played GW2 long enough to make an informed statement, but here's an assumption.I think they're both trying to simply broaden the diversity of their content so you have more choices in what you can do. For Warframe this ended up in having a severe contrast in the quality of these game modes and you still had to do some of the older stuff repeatedly for the dreaded "optimal way" or simply because what you wanted to play with is simply only attainable there.Does GW2 also suffer from this? I haven't gotten to the "endgame" yet, at least it doesn't feel that way, because I'm still just going through the story.
  20. A lot of animations could use an overhaul. I think way the characters bend their upper body on some animations is mostly what makes them look so weird. For some animations they go at a 90 degree angle. That never looks good (because it's actually a bad idea to that). To be fair though, I think sword guardian AA is one of the better ones.
  21. As a new or somewhat returning player (stopped playing right after release) I agree with the "at their own pace". If he enjoys core tyria, let him have his fun there. If it's too easy for him or he doesn't like the story let him know that it gets more difficult and story does get better. There's the probability he's used to "usual" mmos, if so try to make it clear, that it's not the games main strength and/or goal to grind for gear. There seems to be a ridiculous amount of different content. Introduce him to some of them and see what he likes.Maybe he wants to focus on one, maybe he wants to do the story for 2 hours and then do some PvP then some fractals, story again, complete a map he's almost finished and so on.I think the games main strength lies in the multitude of things you can do without pressuring you into doing one specific thing very much.
  22. Really like the metaphor here. Proper transition in difficulty is something especially MMOs seem to struggle with in my experience. Modern WoW for example is known to be ridiculously easy, but has a sudden spike once you start doing mythic+ and/or higher difficulty raids. Mind you, this content still isn't really difficult for the most part, but the sudden spike makes it appear so, because the game was playable with one hand (Razer Naga owner here) for almost all of its previous content. The transition, or rather lack thereof, to the higher difficulty will probably put most people off if they were okay with the previous content being easy enough to auto-pilot through. Speaking of auto-pilot. I think being in that mindset (auto-pilot) makes you a lot less immersed in the world. What do you think?
  23. True, it's almost the same there and I failed to point out how much I dislike the open-world content in those games, because of how mindlessly you go through those supposedly dangerous worlds. I probably forgot to mention it because I haven't leveled a character in any of those games for longer than I can remember.
