  1. I've seen a lot of talk on the fourms about skyscale. The 'Casual friendly mount' with a grind made by one of the most masochistic of grinds to a new player. If you go, I don't have a skyscale. And i don't really care about one, i'd rather do my ascended armor/weapon + strike looting masteries first and fly on a springer Griffon / Beetle first. People will think you're crazy. While you fly around at 500 mph like you're suffering. 🤣 Griffon is so fun to fly, so fast, and while it comes with a skill curve, it's fun and rewarding! Sure, it might take 2 days and masteries to learn how to use a griffon, but that sure beats the 3-22+ days of skyscale's 800 part scavenger hunt sapping away your will to live imo. This one person loves griffon so much, they used it to win #1 in a SKIMMER RACE of all things in HALF the time while making LEISURELY LOOP DE LOOPS to look at the scenery. How is loving your life and some of the most unique mounts that set GW2 apart from other mmorpgs "SUFFERING?" 🤣 Skyscale will offer you: a slow but diverse all in one mount that can go anywhere and dive roll short distances. It's a nice mount. But you can try it's demo for free in ls4:6 and.. Honestly. People say i'm missing out on gw2 for having it and not being in any rush to complete it until after my Ascended armor, Iceblood strike looting masteries, runes, and ascended weapons. But i find myself dismounting the demo skyscale all the time just to use my springer Griffon and beetle all the time now! Some will argue. "But Griffon can't gain height, skyscale can." Fair point. But springer jump, +20-30% Mount Energy regen Jadebot chip, bond of vigor, and mountains/beetle mitigate that loss. And oftentimes, Skyscale still needs to land 2-4x MORE OFTEN for long distance travel as the 'flying' mount while not really going that fast either. . This player shows a example demo of Griffon vs skyscale starting from a gentle slope. For example. For distances under 5-10 seconds long. Both mounts are pretty much even. The skyscale reaches the dirt hill at 5 seconds in, vs 7 for the griffon (who spends their first 5 seconds prepping the dive). But after those 5 seconds are over. The griffon can move at 2-3x the speed and glide to everywhere on a vertical map with ease. Q: But what if the ground is flat, and there's nothing to jump off of? Then wouldn't griffon be useless? A: Yes, but why do you want a flying mount for FLAT ground? You can still get on a beetle or raptor. Which can still travel at like 2x-3x the speed of the skyscale. I'm not saying it's a bad mount. It's a great all in one that can get to anywhere slowly, and it's roll lets it be 2 seconds faster on under 10 second long trips (as raptor would), but there's plenty of great and fun alternatives that are so fun to play. There's even beetle racing guilds and griffon flying guilds, just for the fun of it! But i might want to fly out of a pit in Dragonfall / Afk midair / Get stuck on edges for no reason, and read a map afk midair. Oh shoot yeah. Griffon can't afk midair. You can only fly into mountains at mach 5 while peeking at a map haha. You learn to live with it. 🤣 The cost can be boiled down to: o Griffon: 250G / 1250 Gems + 1 day grind + 1 legendary bounty. Scavenger hunt: 40 items. Maybe +- 2 days to learn how to fly it and mastery it. Maybe 2g for 250 research notes for +20% energy regen Chip. The legendary facet bounty might be good to focus on first as finding a group to complete it can be a major gate before the 10x 25g heart items. - Synergies: I: Springer dismount trick to gain 1 springer height. II: Jackal evading mastery to constantly dodge and rarely take damage. III: +20-30% energy regen jadebot chip to negate most height loss. (Could probably combo Springer -> Skyscale -> Griffon to dive anywhere you wanted too if you wanted too?) o Roller beetle: 160-200 Gems (L4:4), 20 part Scavenger hunt, 1-4 hr grind: Must kill 2-3 populated world bosses/leylines that spawn every 2 hours and have people chasing them naturally anyways so you can just pop there and get it. - Tricks and Synergies: Griffon/Springer Can be used to instantly recharge the energy bar to boost again if needed anytime. Springer's Fall dmg mastery makes the Big air mastery semi useful. Very good on just the first 2 mastery unlocks. o Skyscale: 1000-1200 Gems (Ls4:1-6) + 4-20/+ day grind + 60 part scavenger hunt x7 + 250 of each currency + 100-300g + 22 days of charged quartz grinding/timegates + 3 days manual waiting + Costs to your sanity and self enjoyment. The living season 4 mastery points/POF story pretty worth it, but the sanity cost and will to live and siphoning time/resources away from ascended armor/enjoyment is the main cost over gold/gems imo. - Tricks and Synergies: Flys everywhere really slowly but has a dive roll. Tl;dr: Skyscale is a GREAT all in 1 mount for 1 mount users. It can do everything, very slowly and is very casual friendly. But if you master the Springer Griffon and Beetle, you can travel at 500 mph anywhere you want with a few seconds of prep at 2-3x the speed! 😄. And it lets you have fun while enjoying some of the MOST unique mounts of gw2! And there's no 800 part sanity draining grind to unlock them. Only 10-40 parts for 1 day vs 4-20++ days for skyscale that could be used on first Ascended grinding/strikes /alts! {A great tool to using every mount to it's max can be either: A: getting radial mounts with Remember last used to use every mount quickly. OR B: just having manual keybinds like Z Springer, X beetle, C Griffon, V Default mount/raptor/griffon. etc. Then you can use each mount for whatever purpose you want it to be!. I still wouldn't mind a more.. enjoyable skyscale grind experience. But believe me. It's on my todo list... After Ascended armor (5/6), ascended weapons + weapon swaps (1/3), Iceblood strikes looting masteries (2/3), Doing literally anything else (10/10), going for leisurely flying strolls for enjoyment (10/10), and.. not continuing skyscale's horrible grind anytime soon ever -10/10. } Feel free to discuss. Are you a user without a skyscale who lives in misery, or do you have fun enjoying some of the other unique and diverse mounts in the game, zipping at mach 5 or spinning around a map 3 times just since you were bored and felt like it. Who is tired of being constantly told they are suffering? 🙂
  2. yeah, as mentioned, either you could make a new alt or level a new character up to a lvl 10 bracket, or you could likely just do the first pof mission, which is about 10-30 minutes long. Depending on how optimized or fresh your early gear is. You basically chase around a herald of bathazar around, put out the fires on a town, and then they give you a raptor for helping them. There are some story points but they're mostly setup for pof and a introduction to Balthazar's servants, etc.
  3. Good. Dx11 or dx12 proxy (10% lower f2p than dx11 i think for most people since un native but miles ahead dx9), is one of the best defaults. It's just silly how the mmorpg is so cpu locked while all the ram goes wasted. I have like 16 gb of ram and a okay cpu. GW2 literally runs at like 100% cpu, 3/16 GB ram. Yet it lags on player models unless you turn them off. It's atrocious.
  4. WoW has been mishandled enough i think at one point there's wars over whether or not Classic or Shadowlands (newest expac) did better or private servers did better. I think a lot of people play for the hour to hour gameplay and if you make a shiny brand new mmorpg with no set up good hour to hour activities. (Like, killing mobs for gold farming vs sitting in a garrison for 8 hrs doing nothing in WOD WoW), you get bored. Ironically. WoD Wow i remember Roleplaying was at a peak time high just because people were so bored out of their minds there were legit 20-40 man groups for warrior cat roleplays with druids all the time in wod and legit, no cap, around like 20 different warrior cat guilds for druids and legion fourms to like 2 stormwind military rp guilds and one person who rped as the oddball bear wrestling dwarf, *HIICC. WoD's gameplay was you logged in once a week to raid one boss with one drop you wanted. (Usually Mannoroth for a weapon/trinket and Archemonde for a +3 ilvl / weekly +3% ring stat essence. ). Then you logged out. I won't say i don't enjoy taking breaks when you log in forever but blizzard took the exact OPPOSITE extreme of having a world with lots of landscapes you did once to level and never touched again. But had no worthwhile gear, skinning, herbs, or ores to find. And went from a mmorpg where you paid a sub fee to raid 2 bosses in 40 minutes and logged in 10 minutes a day and LITERALLY couldn't do anything worthwhile with 1-10 hrs of gameplay. To the point they had 40 day timegates on the same quest repeated 40 times in mechagon for gnome rep and bfa turtle rep to get 100 rep of 40k exalted so you could use flying mounts again. Activision Blizzard is fully complacent on milking it though. I remember WoW employees would be on the fourms thinly veiled callings players "greedy, entitled, LAZY, sobbing WHINERS!" for complaining about pathfinder followed by complaints people just didn't want to play a mmorpg without mounts to waste time after a 9-5 to save their 6-10. They had bizarre fixactions on cutting development costs to increase stockholder profits, calling players entitled, trolling the alliance fanbase by giving the horde vulpera and full health regen zandalari trolls while the alliance got kulterans/"fat people" and "diaper gnomes". Then they'd completely professionally go and say stuff like. "Yeah go cry whiny alliance crybabies, we're the devs, we heard your feedback, you want the vulpera? You want Sethilak? You want even Naga or the original wotlk mecha gnomes (full metal) vs metal diapered mechagnomes? You get fat people, it suits you!" Wasn't exact words but they would pretty much go. "You think we're making this game to make you happy? HAHAHA, my boss has monetization metrics for me bud. You'll [WOW playerbase] will buy it anyways regardless of what we do to it. If you don't like it, just quit, hahaha!" Anyways my eyes were pretty much rolling out of my head at that point and i admit, it took a year to find gw2. (I was playing dishonored 1 + 2 as well as hundreds of free games on steam and epicgames as well as some tf2 and overwatch and also messing around with some old mmorpgs like SWTOR and rift and archeage and neverwinter knights. As well as getting into sc2 coop and f2p hearthstone.. But it was a chore. (Tl;dr: Just some stories about WoW employees trolling their own playerbase and playing other games. Skip it if you want. (My brain's natural thought process just adjusts to my hand's literal 237 wpm/apm. So 5-10 minutes of personal thoughts do tend to come out multi paras i'm well aware most people take 20-40 minutes to read... Working to make a brain speak in less words is like trying to drive 2 mph in a car that goes 80 mph. sigh. I got it from Wow specs, hence the disappointment more actions don't = more reward in gw2
  5. Oh weird, i was gonna call cap but then i looked and you were literally right lmao. Just no sources at all and for the most part Bitterfrost i think was like LS3 which was between Pof and HOT? It look like Dragons and Ritualists are EOD stats which only launched a few months ago. It looks like EOD is a recent expansion, but there do seem to be some builds where they mix and match Ritualist builds with a piece or two of Vipers for dps like Alac Condi Renegade. If nothing else can be found, bitterfrost at least isn't the worst to grind so you could always have a spare backpack just for the fun of it and mess around with ritualist everything else, and then a viper piece for condi dps perhaps or your Spec's 2nd best stat. Celestial while also usually being 30% off at the best choice in anything, can kinda do a mixed job if you want like 50-70% of everything. But it does seem really weird there isn't a option. I relate to finding weird and more obscure pieces of gear while power builds get it for free and mechanist can apparently spec into 100% alacity with a lazy build while other specs are like 50%.
  6. This anniversary sale can't come fast enough. If they're gonna charge I'd really like to at least be able to buy it anytime so I don't feel like unneeded stories like ls2 experienced way past relevance or out of order are needed without the lore recap videos. Which are like the only thing that keeps the expansion only semi coherent missing hot setup, aurene's birth, Joko's and Krattorik's end. Oh and you flat out just can't loot certain iceblood strike reward chests without iceblood because the game puts a flipping anti no dlc lock on it. It's long term cheaper than wow yes but something about the sale structure being so sparingly and some of the living world being like mediocre story only for 50$ on top of maybe 50-100$ spent on the game makes it a lower priority but I'd still like to know if everyone got it last year for free. I don't see why they couldn't do a free rotating episode each week or at least per month.. Or at least more frequent rotating sales so people didn't have to wait 1 year for it to go on sale while the story's relevance fades away.
  7. I feel like a good portion of The mmorpg structure is that players want gameplay, not cutscenes. But a lot of the most dramatic scenes usually require for there to be a soundtrack and for us to be watchers, not acters for a character death to have impact. There's usually hit or miss things in every show, but one of the examples of a tragic dark story that can be found in a initially children targeted Anime / Shonen can be found in one of the first early Episodes of Naruto. Where Zabuza, a Ruthless assassin is there to kill Kakashi's team. He's hardened, cold. Ruthless. Yet despite all this, Haku clings onto him because even if Zabuza only sees Haku as a mere tool. Haku was born abandoned in the remains of war and only merely wishes to belong to someone. Eventually at the end, Zabuza lies nearly dead, comatose on a battlefield. Limping and barely alive while Haku stands dead after protecting him. To him, it was just a meaningless existence. He was a tool. And his END had just merely came to be, as all shinobi he was raised to believe should be. He simply tries to not care about Haku, to disregard them as a tool who considered him the same. But he can tell he's lying through his teeth as he starts to lament his memories of the past. His betrayal, his rise, his fall. The powerful soundtrack evokes memories and sadness as Zabuza's past flies beyond his life and he erupts weeping in tearful sorrow. For although he lived his life as a tool, Haku cared for him enough to be his only for them to still just die in the end. Having nothing left to fight for, he burns himself fighting against the very creature that hired him, and betrayed him... Instead of coming back to life. The story ends with both Zabuza and his remorseful partner Haku dead. Not being the protagonist named Naruto, his story simply ends dead. Forgotten in a grave. No dragon balls, no resurrection jutsu. The only thing he can fight for is vengeance on everyone who used him in the end... It's a sad story people gloss over. Turning a villain that'd other be a mook in most other shows into a sad and tragic character as you see his character develop from ruthless assassin to remorseful avenger with his very last breath. Meanwhile GW2 When you lock learning about characters in 50$ dlc when the game can be 15-50$... And Aurene being BORN is in dlc.
  8. Yeah but that's the reason Wow mounts started off as 300% speed flying mounts without physics. The Griffin is more unique than a half speed wow mount skyscale. Outside of the rolls they're retroactively adding. The baseline wow mounts act without physics and basically were all 2x speed skyscales with flying to the map line as default. Activision, in their infinite wisdom deciding to strangle games for more profit for return per dollar, have pretty much consistently pretty much made pretty cinematic and boring gameplay. They know they have a strong ip presence but strangle the game knowing if they cut half of content and disable flying without a 2 part pathfinder that involves repeating the same identical turtle rep quest 40 days in a row for 50-100 rep of 40,000 to exalted. That players will waste their subs regardless of quality. Wow gets millions upon millions of views off up even if people trash it, that's awareness. Gw2 has millions at launch. But its latest expacs barely get 90k views. Asmongold's beetle video gets 350k despite being a figure in wow only a few know. And disguisedToast from hearthstone gets millions playing among us. I really wonder if you offered to let him try the game with a review copy and maybe a YouTube promo code or customs item for a cheap disguised toast hat if he could join. Even smaller games without money for ads know the free pr that streamers can bring. Oftentimes even if you don't have money, giving them a code for a nontradable xp booster or cosmetic for their channel can easily bring people in or awareness of a less known game. It might not be overnight but our game slowly chipped it's way up to 10-15k starting players online at any given moment to 17k-24k actively logged in. Though it is a afk gacha model where you open swords to fuse them together for higher stats infinitely. Its feasible to make on a 75.5% revenue cut platform. Ironically some of the whaling features were forced into the game after revolt because the dev wanted to cap spending.. At some point there were buffs you could infinitely refill for 50 cents that could double your damage. The dev wanted to disable it and offer people three choices instead and take away paid rerolling and give it for free... after finding out people were spending 1000s of dollars on it for a weekly leader board and title. it was meant to make the game more f2p friendly but even the f2ps complained so. They limited to one refill and then a few of the leaderboard tryhards began gearing up like 10-50 accounts just to roll perfect rng while whaling on each purchase limited one... I actually really encourage and enjoy the gameplay of f2p or buy for life models. At some point it just becomes a wallet no living war imo. But our audience would actively rebel if we tried to take whaling away. Going "WHY WOULD I WANT TO SPEND LESS?? I SHOULD BE ABLE TO SPEND MORE!! YOU'RE NOT MY MOM, I CAN OWN YOU AND BUY YOUR ENTIRE COMPANY!!!" etc. " (ironically we initially started catering to them at first. The early ones would spend tons but yell and flame the staff and for early financial reasons we'd make business decisions to go with it for a few 3k-8k spenders. It seems a pretty bad and review bombed mmorpg monetization scheme though. as mmorpgs need players and balance to thrive. Bdo is HEAVILY review bombed for p2w mechanics. I still dislike paywalling the story but whales aren't like innocent sheep.. Sometimes the audience you get screams at you to add MORE SPENDING rather than the other way around. Gw2 And osrs's mass quit for mtx are NOT that game. )
  9. Honestly I enjoyed the charr personal story for ash legion and iron Legion a fair bit. But yeah Joon felt like a character with understandable motivations hastily written to have that jarring mood swing from. "I vouch and trust the commander, but how can I know you told the truth and will care about my ancient friend?" to "Show me proof of your innocence. Hmm. This proves you may be innocent and a aetherblade attack and the end of the world #47 that can only be saved by aurene's maguffin powers may be at place. BUT ILL KILL YOU AND START THR END OF THE WORLD AFTER ONE SECOND IF YOU DISAGREE WITH ME DESPITE HAVING NO COMBAT SKILLS." ironically dishonored 2 had a very similar character like that. A newly forged arrogant noble challenging you yo fight his 8 feet tall clockwork soldiers who had prepared a speech and armored trapped mansion to kill Corvo. Difference was, Dishonored 2 could be a stealth/gorefest/ambush game where you could freeze time and bypass the level as well as teleport. So you could do stuff like preemptively disable his locked doors and defences and kill them during the monologue. Or set him up to explode but he started a villain. Joon could have easily been better written too imo. I get there were staff cuts but INSISTING on taking on a player character who enters a battle with 30 combatants and leaves 30 slain sounds already illogical enough. Attacking you after proving your innocence Is just cake on the top as well. Imo she could have easily been written as less "SHOW ME PROOF YOU'RE INNOCENT. I READ THIS, AND I THE BIPOLAR SCHOLAR DON'T CARE. MY LACK OF COMBAT SKILLS WILL DEFEAAT YOU!!!!!!!!1111111" ...... Maybe something like (gets handed evidence) "No. No... This can't be right. My work destroyed. My friend Soo Won in shambles, corrupted and falling astray. I know you might have seen her as just a battery.. But she was more to me than just a THING... She was one of my only ... friends. Even before anyone else came. Closer to family even.... I know you want to get rid of her for your sake, but i need to do my best to save her for mine. She's more than just a toy to throw away when done. For her sake.. I can't just give up on her.. I promise, i''ll do everything i can to find a cure, Please! there has to be another way. Even if I can't save her with your plan, I need to fight for her sake and find a way. Please... Give me this fight. Let me show you that I can back my actions with more than just words.. I can help you save her.. Otherwise.. How on earth could i even look at myself in the mirror if i just let them die? Just like that, forgotten, discarded in senseless murder. NO NO NO. there has to be a better way! Please reconsider!!... " Vs "I DONT CARE IF YOU'RE INNOCENT AND DUDE WU IS CORRUPT. I WILL DEFEAT YOUUUUU!! AHH, THE HAMMER IMPLANTED INTO MY FACE, THE PAIN!!!! A LANDMINE!?!? {How many Geneva conventions are you violating!?!!?} awgughwehrhwr!!!! *DIES* " 😂
  10. Gw2 is a pretty good game on the mmorpg game market but it has a weird habit of sticking to ideas that were revolutionary.. 10 years ago, and then sticking to it's bad guns just as well as choking it's good ideas out imo. After like a week of doing dungeons for runes it seems like all that worry about people not having alacity or quickness unless you're going after challenge modes seems frivolous.. I've already seen a couple dungeons where by the time i joined they had already just cleared half the dungeon on 2-3k dps even on 0 mastery characters. One time i joined a 4 man and when i tped in.. the dungeon was literally already done by the time the 5th player found the entrance. Meanwhile i did 4 more runs and it's just nearly always a nameless blob where we get story intersections nobody wants to be a stickler so we skip it so we can keep up with the group. And honestly at this point. People are still concerned if you'll have alacity + boon face poking range and quickness when while relevant to challenge modes. It feels like you take a hour looking for a dungeon that is zerg rolled over in like 5-10 minutes as long as you have a decent elite spec? Who cares if the person autoattacking to 2k dps doesn't have +25% alacity for.. more auto attacks.... People are way overthinking something that seems to just be zerged. T4 fractals definitely needs optimization.. But.. Dungeons could really benefit from ideas other mmorpgs introduced like.. twenty years ago. Like.. teleport to dungeon for the no waypoint players, or at the very least, a right click party and "show closest unlocked waypoint" or summoning stone like WoW are just basic things to grease the gears so the dungeon doesn't get beaten before the 5th mountless player ever finds their way there..
  11. I mean, while BDO can have some really impressive graphics and fan shaders. As mentioned Earlier, So does GW2 and it still franky, much as im surprised as well. Still looks years ahead in wow in modern content. The thing is, there's more to a successful rpg than solely graphics imo. You need early game and endgame content, you need to have a active player base (and poaching from other mmorpgs or getting a younger audience to join can be a very difficult task. ) While BDO has some honestly impressive graphics.. You have to remember you play a mmorpg for the gameplay and BDO, at least on metacritic has Trashed 68% ratings reviews trashing the p2w mechanics. Apparently it has mobile energy mechanics and afking in a MMORPG that might burn your graphics card and fan? You chop down a tree and have to wait a hour for energy(???). Metacritic players are trashing the monetization scheme and flat voice acting and story and PVE scene. Lag, and just completely ripping into the game. Honestly it looks good but there's a lot more to a successful mmorpg than pretty grass. And a lot of those things like polished gameplay and a healthy endgame and grouping system seem important to what most mmorpg audiences want in a mmorpg. And while sure, BDO may take the cake. Gw2 is still miles ahead of wow and looks pretty good with the re shaders mod. Can you see the particles of each hair? Nah. But [gameplay] often trumps [graphics WITHOUT gameplay] imo.
  12. I've said it in the past, but i think most people do like Gw2 once they hear about it or try it. or they want to play it, but don't even realize it's F2p to max level. (Now, skipping out on the story and qol mechanics if you spend 100$ and it all gets eaten up by expac collection + LS4 skyscale + griffon + a salvage o matic or viper gear is another thing. But, for what it's worth, if you don't care about the plot. Gw2 can be enjoyed for free or very optimally for 15-7$ for HoT+ Path of Fire and maybe 2$ for Roller beetle or Ls3:3(?) for Bitterfrost berries.
  13. Too late. Once you summoned it.. You cannot stop the noise.. You can only embrace and live with it for the rest of your life. OR beat up your Charr car within a inch of it's life.
  14. As far as guild wars 2 goes, I think it needs awareness more than a revamp. As mentioned on launch a lot of people tried it in a era where mmorpgs like rift/tera/swtor/star trek online / dnd online / Neverwinter /Lotro.. [Insert 1 million other mmorpgs with 1 feature] launched. Gw2's launch experience i think was missing endgame content and mounts. It's launch niche was the first 1-30 you had a personal story and then Trehearne took over it. But now 10 years later, It's built a really strong niche as a really fun buy once own forever mmorpg that respects time. Which may be a bit from the competition weakening, but one thing to note is Activision blizzard is pretty complacent. They don't really care about adding flight and often gate or deny the ability to use the mounts while wasting time with empty chores and have been hitting junk expac after flopped expac. But they're starting to copy the griffon/skyscale's roll flights and physics. (Contrary to belief, Wow actually starts off with 300% flight speed dragons that would pretty much be a 200% speed skyscale. But physics /rolls are not programmed in. The skyscale is more a wow mount copy vs the other mounts, come full circle to have it's roll copied imo. ) For instance, while a meme video, Asmongold's (Hate the dude from wow. Trashy personality. Has gold raising events where he calls people idiots for donating them gold and labels it as a money making guide LMAO. ) Anyways, just kinda imagine him as a common WoW audience. He has no or little idea that gw2 exists other than a few features. Which instead of wanting to play, wants to steal. People don't know most of Gw2 is free and PoF and the mount could be like 17$. That's a month of wow sub. But often mmorpgs had 15$ monthly sub or big grinds. One of the labeled points within the comments is that people think it's brilliant how someone can BUILD this ingame, followed by a counter point that whoever did it, probably had to grind items for thousands of hours to a guild hall. But instead of going to Gw2, they want wow to copy the feature so they can play it in wow without hopping as most people only commit to only mmorpg due to stereotypes of subscriptions. Maybe they could use more strength advertising that gw2 is FREE to play to max lvl, 1-80 vs 1-20 of WoW and FF? that'd already be a BIG selling point.. And while we joke of the popularity of GW2 advertising.. This meme clip at 350k views, low even for Asmon.. Still has like 3.5x the 100k views of some of Gw2's own trailers or advertisements. Now i don't like Asmongold, but i think gw2's lack of popularity isn't that they need to remake the game when most people who see it respond with interest.. Their OFFICIAL 90k view EOD trailers get the same amounts of views as someone trying to sell a reshader preset for 10$... And.. it got just about as many views as EOD.. For just making a gameplay trailer. (Reshader is a Free Shader tool that makes games look gorgeous. It'll often trigger a false positive virus alert as it modifies your gw2 shader files however. But i haven't had any problem using it so far. Gw2 despite being 10 years old, can look pretty DRAMATICALLY good with the right shaders and software. Just wish it was less cpu bottlenecked and used more ram. )
  15. POV 1: You've built up what you wanted to be a epic story, and now bring the characters you've come to know and love together to fight the final boss! The players actually know who the characters are, and are hyped up for every single moment like a epic showdown is going to occur giving them all the excitement and conclusions they were waiting for! Pov 2: You sold the plotline as DLC, and now new players have NO idea what's going on or who any of these people ARE or even why they're here or fighting who they are. But they know there's supposed to be a story... They just can't afford it, so they make up their own Jojo Spongebob Squarepants Dora Parody AMV to try and get some more insight into the lore. Since that's all the sense the story is gonna be making when half of it is locked behind a dlc experienced out of order.
  16. Oh fair yeah. if you want to sit for like 10-30 minutes doing nothing, your only choices are like skyscale hovering or quickly tabbing out to character select, or entering the pvp lobby for a free anywhere Bank/TP break that teleports you back when done. Honestly as mentioned, springer griff and pvp lobby is comfy enough but you're never going to hover midair stationary with a griffon lmao. One of the defining features of Skyscale is being able to hover midair. Might be a good choice for op if they're willing to do that painful awful horrible grind? I concede that point. Still. it kinda seems paradoxical making the new player friendly use mount have a like 800 part scavenger hunt collection over 40 continents that can take hours on foot vs minutes on griffon. (Climbing up a mountain, manually by springer, finding manual skyscale points, climbing to one, and then having to parkour up 20 giant mountains vs ziplining spot to spot with a masteried griffon) seemed jarring. The skyscale is probably the most casual friendly to use mount, timegated with a 800 part scavenger hunt x 5 from purgatory grind out there. It really makes no sense why they locked it so much. People wonder why i still camp +20-30% mount energy regen griffon so much. But i like just having to do 2-3 springer hops and being able to zipline anywhere i want on the map with springer griffon on hills or roller beetle long distances on flats. It doesn't make sense why the casual friendly mount has so much of a time gate behind it. But i notice myself constantly dismounting the demo skyscale just to griffon places faster. So i'm in no rush for the grind on radial mounts. (One button selects any mount you want and i have it set to "remember last" and one normal mount button so i can easily pick dual mounts at ease)
  17. Coming from other MMORPGS, it's not the cost i mind but just the fact that all main expansions story come with holes missing. If gw2 was a segmented story, it'd be fine. But it's story is so obviously designed to be linear. Aurene for instance, is a major part of later POF and Ls4 / EoD and i think you miss out on them even being BORN without LS3 or the Aurene puppy moments without Ls3:3 that make you bond to them. Otherwise you have no clue why this dragon you don't know appears and almost dies within 2 minutes of knowing them in later stories or even likes you so much or care about their death without the puppy moments where they play hide and seek and want to bond with you. There's a dramatically different payoff in something you care about vs someone you barely even have known for 2 minutes. It's such a minor point i don't even know if it makes it into the lore recap video. But it's enough to make you realize you were probably supposed to get to know the characters in a linear fashion to get attached to them. otherwise they're faces you don't really know you don't care about if they die or live and POF glint is dead within 2 minutes of you meeting them without learning much of who they are. Making a linear story cut into pieces. Is like selling a book that was written and meant to be read in order, but then had parts cut out for dlc. It's like selling a book of Harry potter or LoTR, where 100 pages you went, 150 were cut out for dlc for 2$ for 50-60$ of dlc total. But some parts are dry, so you go "Do i really want to spend 2$ just to get the Voldemort was born dlc, or the Harry did absolutely nothing at privet drive dlc?", so you try to skip to the needed parts of the story in most critical order. Only to realize you had no emotional investment in any of the characters ever built up. {But still feel like 2$ for the harry doing absolutely nothing dlc would have been a poor value. } In this case, the monetization model can easily cannibalizes the story into a incoherent mess. As far as things go, i feel like less of the frustration is in that 10$ for 5 maps isn't a bad value in most other games. It's just that sometimes i feel like the monetization model will INCENTIVIZE you to skip the story. Or, at least unlock the more rewarding parts in order (Ls4:1-6 for skyscale /Beetle, Ls3:3 for Ring/1 Accessory/Backpack) In this case, you're picking what you want, some people are story first, while i've been mostly using youtube recaps for content i'm told was either inaccessible (LS1-3 Lore recaps. I found it a MAJOR help. But you still want to experience story, not listen to a lore recap. But it was almost needed just to make the core expansion experience make sense. And i feel the animator did a great job. But still wish the story did more to make itself more accessible. Like if it's money, if i spend 100$ on a game, why couldn't i just unlock the story for free like the people who got it free last year? If you say, spent 100-150$ on Gw2 for the ultimate collection / 3 character slots / 1 salvage o matic. Why do i have to pick between character slots i need or story if i want to experience the game or make alts!? Why do i need to spend 5$ just to change my hairstyle or Charr's Fur from stripes to spots? Instead of pushing me towards the content, it makes me feel like i shouldn't waste my money unless there's a sale otherwise i could be burnt out and waste limited gems by missing a refund period by just 1 day again which happened to me when I bought pof full price and 4000 gems and Prime day happened and i missed out on 1500 gems by a single day... ) From what i can see. Without experiencing the stories in order. You end up with a disjointed story where you're thrust into a world with dead emotional payoffs. Very minor things like the bonding with Baby Aurene in Ls3 might not seem story relevant, but without it, you never really bond with Aurene as much. I think it's one of the examples how speaking for the character, makes you feel like your own character feels like a puppet meant to play the role of Aurene's best friend and the story quickly becomes. "Use aurene to defeat the evil dragon possessed with evil magic who was once secretly good!" followed by "Use aurene to defeat the evil dragon possessed with evil magic who was once secretly good, again!" It might be a minor point, but the fact that you can seemingly skip the entire character being born(???) while being able to like, skip the parts they bonded with you at all is a very bizzare mmorpg story. I wouldn't say it's anything too much to get worked over, but if i have to pick between mounts and story and gear or basic qol. I'm picking permanent mounts and gear, but i really don't see why it has to punish you or make you pick. tl;dr While 10$ for 5 maps isn't much, the problem is, for 15-100$ of spending, there's still PLENTY of things gw2 tries to make you divide it between. To the point that mounts, resources, and gear can all compete for resources. Making it easy for the monetization model to cannibalistic to understanding of the story. Like if every 100 pages, 150 pages of Harry Potter or LOTR was cut out. Instead of just feeling incentivized to experience the full story. You feel strong pressures to just.. Skip it. And that's the problem that turning a linear story into a dlc has for me imo. If experiencing boring content costs money, it becomes a chore you have to pay for instead of a experience. So then if you just never buy it, what money are they making? So you're just left with a story ex: where you'd miss out on Harry potter's birth or Voldemort's origin story. And you're aware something was supposed to happened but you experience a story where Harry potter was never born, SKIP, has 3 friends suddenly SKIP, missed the climax SKIP, is at the end of school and never beat the main villain or knew they were born... (You still experienced "half" the content in "The Ultimate complete collection that leaves out half the story". But not in a way that makes any semblance of sense... Unless you pay 2$ for the Voldemort gets born dlc, followed by the 2$ harry potter does nothing at Vermillion's house dlc. Linear stories aren't designed to be cut into parts and sold. The monetization model cannibalizes the coherence, imo. And incentivizes players to miss the story on limited funds instead of making sense. + you can't loot some strike chests without Iceblood, for some inane reason that only shows up AFTER completing the content. It really just feels like a sour experience having to pick daily use items that last forever just to have a temporary story make sense. And im not complaining about picking mounts and gear first. NOT at all. Im just fully aware i've been waiting for a dang sale forever and there's supposed to be a anniversary sale in a week or month.. But a week or month can be a long time in experiencing a linear story completely disjointed and out of order.
  18. Might be a late thing, but if you level the jackal enough to get the evasion, mounts like skimmers and griffons can basically evade most mobs just by hovering or evading using their ability key which dramatically reduces knockdowns significantly. After I got my Springer griffon with evasion, knockdowns went from a hourly minor annoyance to a "oh yeah. I remember when those used to happen weeks ago!" moment. Minus map reading breaks. XD.
  19. And even if not a VPN, what happens if you region lock someone to a country or if it's a vpn and they move? Do you lock their account? A big problem with the separate minor game i modded is: cross traders and RWTers always try to pass them off as "innocent players" "donating for charity", and a huge problem is someone giving "1000$" worth of video game currency "out of the good of their hearts" with a (300$ check sent to russia) and receipts we found on their facebook page was just the "appreciation gift".. {The donation place? A cross trading reputation fourm.. I kid you not...} People will be caught red handed with literal receipts posted in the open air on cross trading rep threads.. And still play themselves off as innocent cross trading 1000$s when caught. Others are literally spots we're left just as confused as anyone else. Like we had one kid... literally spent like 2000$ in a single day from beggar to whale in one day. (How he even got 2000$ as a kid in 1 day is beyond me).. Lots of people just see the price point side of whales. It's just as absurd to be a person who tries to check to make sure the items weren't hacked or being cross traded/rwt in our game, Since pretty much EVERYTHING was tradable, bis gear, and people would fuse and merge all their items to make the best stuff. But that'd be getting off topic into a gacha item fuser game. Of course well, other games have the freedom to choose what they want or mod or don't want to mod. But yeah our's is a kiddie game i just played to fill up the mmorpg hole after i quit WoW and got tired of privates and the trial and abandonwared f2p mmorpgs. (Where f2p often comes with no development abandonware with p2w gear cashshops and dead content/ 0 people zones. ) Now to clarify, it wouldn't be the end of the world, if they want to accept cheaper pricing, it's their game, their model, and region locked keys have been done before and i doubt most general people would want to bother with a turkey key that locks them to turkey servers. But i don't know if turkey servers would even pay for the turkey players unless they get lumped under a EU section(?) Even then, Gw2 is still significantly cheaper than most mmorpgs. Considering you can play the game f2p 1-80 and honestly most of the important parts of the game (mounts, best story parts [heavy personal opinion for HoT's dark jungle and PoF's fun mounts and Joko], for 15$. Gw2 gives a pretty good value as one of the f2p games where a cosmetic cash shop selling 20$ cosmetics without p2w gear actually works. The only minor problem is the only outfits that sell are the ones cool enough, everyone feels left out not having them haha. XD And they won't give out any for free or even unlockable achievement mount skins(?) [Curse you, Cosmetics!] XD) But i'd be lying if being charged for haircuts wasn't the one minor pet peeve that i'll always hate lol. XD. I'll always really regret not having the ability to change my earlier kitten Charrs with the ugly smashed in pug faces or spaced out cats into nicer faces and skins haha. XD. Cause i think gw2 has one of the more fun character creation menus i always want to mess with. Yet it's the one game that'd charge you 4$ a use without a way around it that's so irksome haha. I think that regional pricing works well for single player games, but for Gw2, it's already pretty cheap. It'd have to be region locked, still pay server fees, be at a price point people couldn't use it to fund botting or buy on vpn and fund NA/EU afk bots.. And.. hmm.. 🤔. It's still just 15$ for Pof/HoT on sale for a buy for life model though. Maybe +30-50$ for LS4 -3 and a Griffon/skyscale, or ascended gear if you value gold farming above 2$ a hour. But you can all make that ingame too technically with gold to gems.
  20. I do remember the griffin Legendary bounty on a uncaring server kinda being iffy though. It took like 30 minutes to spawn, and both the first 2 times i assumed it'd just be like most champions you could just swoop in and solo or pug a group when it popped, but i wonder if spawned a bad affix or something. But the first 2 literal times, the first time timed out, the second got some affixes that made it seemingly immune to all damage while spawning 1000s of crystals [There was probably a way around it, but in the 10 minute window it despawned in, and lack of text, nobody figured it out.] The third time, we organized and prepped watching it for 4 hours, asking anyone who could come to be on alert if it spawned, then we told people that if they ever wanted griffon to prep the quest and grab it anyways just in case. Eventually we got 20 people to come in and zerg the thing since it was like a legendary bounty with a harsh dps check i don't think was meant to be soloable at the time by most builds. Much less no ascended starter garbage. But the zerg helped kill it. I don't think i really find most champions bad on a good build, but if you're on a core or unoptimized build. Many randomly assembled builds, while fun for diversity may perform very weak. We're talking about like.. Builds that max out at like a literal 2-4k junk dps while the benchmarks are 30-40k for snowcrows with raid buffs. But i've gotten a dps meter. I think there's a fair amount of surprising dps and core specs that seem to only do like 1.4k-4k dps if you just spam abilities randomly or auto chain or have wrong stat exotics instead of the specialized builds and glass cannons. There are builds that afk to 20-30k dps, but they're usually specifically tailored to while being decked out in specific geared ascendeds for the afk build besides mechanist which im not even sure can be built to go lower than 15k dps for afking a sandwich. There are definitely unequal rewards for rotations where someone thinking they're the hot stuff does a 20-40 button rotation to 2-4k and it's a build limitation. Another where they say autoing should always yield 10-30k dps but it turns out their spec is mechanically or gear limited to 2-4k if it's like wrong affix un runed exotics or a bad build. Especially core builds with random weapons. it seems like a lot of core builds do like 2-3x less dps or more than their optimized counterparts. At least well, from the few Non mechanist alts i've tried messing with so far.
  21. On paper, with unlimited resources, money, and player bases not even microsoft can buy with money. o The Dream mmorpg would be a game with a limitless world, with millions of dollars of content, developed and sold for 0 dollars. o There would be no p2w, the developers would magically live and pay rent off eating air, and make a wonderful game while their land owners would sing lalalla into the sunset! o It'd simultaneously balance every class while nerfing every class you hate! 😛 Story o The story would be wonderful and all free, but it'd do away with that pesky story. It'd be the perfect one. Whatever the player wanted. Why not go one step above the personal story, offer the unlimited fairy tale mmorpg story experience? With one click of a button, you could decide if Gw3 was a Sci fi story about Star wars 3, Classical old english Gower brother Fantasy osrs Runescape 3, a Wow with better green and Red orcs, or more Gw1/gw2! o Your experiences would all be personally created, and tailored by a GPT3 AI, Which would simultaneously create your own PERSONAL story with reroll options, ai generated descriptions and fantasies. Without like uh. Concerns for any of the costs and fantasies, and the story would be so personal, only YOU would be the one able to remember it or play it once! Funding this on 0$ would be funded via the powers of magic. No cosmetic shop or 20$ cat, no no no! 1000$ of dollars of content, for FREE. Not even the cash shop could have skins you didn't need but could choose to buy. Everything, for FREEE! 😛 / S Funding o There wouldn't be any, yay! 😄 Development costs: o It's made via magic, we want it freer than F2p and we want it to cost more to develop than A brand new World and every other MMORPG made, Combined! Consumers with past amounts spent / 50-1000(?)$+ on gems. o Hippity hoppity your gems vanishing into a dead game are my property! Balance Changes o The only class that exists is Mechanist and the only Race you can pick to play is Mechanist 😛 . All other classes still can be made, but die instantly and have your account deleted upon the end of character creation.
  22. I mean regional pricing isn't new, but the copies have to be region locked and there might be server costs behind the scenes. Big hosting is likely cheaper via scale than small hosting, but it wasn't uncommon for l4d2 servers to pay like 10-15$ a month for a 4 man server, and l4d2 was a single map game. It's probably a pretty negligable cost, but lets say a 24/7 player slot might run about 2-3$ a month. And a player might be on, say, 4-8 hours a day. Gw2 could probably vary, but considering you can easily like get POF on sale for like 15$ and then play a couple months off just Path of fire and HoT and get mounts. A 15$-50$ buy it for life model isn't that unfriendly. Sure, having no living seasons to get a 1st or second viper trinket if you play vipers since you can't use laurels for Viper rings or trinkets which seem the primary intended double ring/assessory method kinda sucks. But hey, i mean. for Wow, you pay 15$, sub and then the sub expires and you can't even play the game again even IF you bought the expac. Not endorsing the Wow model, but as far as mmorpgs go, Gw2 with a buy it for life model that starts at the cost of a 1 month wow Sub isn't the worst player model out there tbf. When i was a kid, i wanted everything to be free, but then every game i played would go bankrupt or run out of funds for development. Now i like paying a little for a game i know will continue and all the grinds i pay for will leave it alive years later.
  23. Yeah, maybe I went a too bit into detail. But black /gray market trade was a huge part of my modding in the game and people were literally often purchasing 3000-8000$ worth on single accounts to trade it to others and rwt it or profit. We weren't/aren't even a conventional game business either. Just someone who was there to mod the discord and then got into looking at the numbers to keep the game healthy. Im pretty sure any mainstream mmorpg should probably (?) Have a bigger net problem then a small fangame? (But we were literally handling at least 30-70+ profiles of 1-3k avg tip spenders are 8k was our highest) I suppose gw2 could mitigate it by region locking the games. But region locked pricing tends to attract a big reseller mark and server costs can be fixed. It's a game that's already a very generous f2p to max levels and even just pof + hot is a good value for 15$. A reseller market could risk opening up a botter haven, even our small game has vpn users for cheaper purchases and if gems or ultimate collection was sold cheap enough to be resold, people reselling region locked gw2 copies could be easily possible.
  24. Honestly, as much as everyone wants one. I don't know if sequels are always the right thing for a Mmorpg especially in the post development age. Sure, some unique games needed reboots since their tech was rapidly going out of date. And gw2 could use some heavy optimization on cpu usage. (I have a 16 gb ram and no lie, 99% of processing is on cpu, 3 gb of 16 gb ram gets used for the game. ) But if anything, the game still looks really good with re shader. Feel free to take a look at WoW anytime and realize the market leader still uses cartoony graphics but uses warcraft visuals. (Bright colors, big shoulders, bold cheek sylization. Tiger paws are modeled like flat horse hoofs without anyone blinking a eye, etc. ) A game like gw2 where people do like 15-100$+ purchases plus have gem purchases and a already lower vs most mmorpg playerbase (WoW and FF14 had/have millions playing them, gw2 does a good job clustering people on one US mega server to hide the fact it's probably HEAVILY lower population but feels more alive on a mega server vs 50-200 north america regions probably helps it somewhat. Minus the 100-200 ms ping vs 20-70 ms ping. ) I feel like a reboot, they'd have to entirely make tons of new content from scratch, remodel every race, design new races and while a fun idea on paper. People have to remember resources in reality are often not unlimited in practice. Even a game with lots of money like WoW has all the money siphoned out into Activision stock earnings i think. They milked the cow until it was dead without feeding it and then got a shovel i think to please stockholders. But the thing about quarterly stockholder development is squeezing a game to death for short term games, then hopping onto another to suck dry is pretty routine for them and just business. Even though i like gw2, i don't know if endlessly developing content and making a third game would work or even be feasible. Everyone's gem purchases would be outdated, people who just bought the expacs would be a bit peeved. Gw2 still can push some people's hardware (or.. well.. at least the cpu bottleneck). If graphics alone were what pushed sales, Black desert online would be making millions instead of selling itself for a dollar with a very p2w endgame cash shop.
  25. Restoring a Deleted Character Character restorations are no longer a service that we provide. We urge players to be careful when making the decision to delete a character. While we may not be able to restore a character back to your account, please still let us know if there is an item-related issue for our team to look into. It is not guaranteed that we will be able to assist, though we will do our best to resolve any outstanding matters. Warning: Deleting a character will permanently destroy any items in that character's inventory, as well as any character-based unlocks associated with the character. It is very important that you carefully consider the impact that deleting a character can have on your overall game experience before doing so. https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010181213-Restoring-a-Deleted-Character Only thing I found when I was looking into restoring my other 3/5 deleted 9 year old birthday booster characters for the dyes. Most of them were honestly meme characters lvl 1-3s but the birthday boosters and dyes were deleted before I had a clue they were there or their value. I still had enough to level my characters with 2/5 of the accounts so I didn't want to make a fuss but if recovering the 3/5 ever became conveniently possible I'd probably go for it after a confirmation and character slot sale. well. At least to recover the items then start new toons haha. XD. Or maybe a appearance change kit. At least lmao.
