  1. Torch and focus are both great options and torch specifically captures a tomb raider or dungeon delver kind of vibe for a thief, like in the deepstone fractal.
  2. Somewhere at Anet HQ they have a pinata of core engi that they have to beat with the nerf stick every day to get their wages
  3. I think I've said this before, but maybe we should all just start pugging with terrible builds and failing at raids to make their metrics go crazy. I call turret engi!
  4. Thank god they nerfed core engi. Finally other builds can compete! Those pistols are just so busted. In reality I think they just looked at the best condition damage and burning output on all professions and nerfed them regardless of performance. I honestly think ChatGPT is doing these. Thank you balance team (2 people? less?) for deepening my Stockholm Syndrome.
  5. In pvp, a lot of the time you'll notice you've been downed by 80k+ burn stacks, despite cleansing harder than a brain surgeon pre-op. So funny that many classes get to burn ludicrously more than the vietnam special. Holosmith has some burning thrown around, but in general, engi is ironically lacking access to a lot of burn stacks. Clearly most people here prefer power, but thematically, it isn't the force of the napalm that kills you so much as your face melting off.
  6. I see this as pigeonholing into explosives rather than opening up weapon swap lol
  7. Here's an idea... nerf the pistol and torch, or scourge, or a bit of both? It seems simple enough to me. I don't understand the doom and gloom.
  8. Thank you. If I understand correctly, amazon uses servers throughout the country, and automatically picks the best one for me regardless of world choice? How about figuring out WvW timezones?
  9. Dumb question, but google and some searching didn't really answer this for me. I live in Alaska, and am curious if any NA world selection has any effect in any game mode in regards to ping. I know how it affects my WvW team. From what I read, Anet hosts all servers through amazon somewhere in Virginia. Does this mean essentially everyone is forced to connect to the east coast? Even if it is just a WvW team thing, how can I know which timezone each world is, so I can sync my playtime better with others? I can try to guest, but it's once a week and doesn't affect WvW, so kind of pointless. I don't know how to gather data. Has anyone else solved this?
  10. Every class? Please go try core engi. It works because the skills that are the problem aren't core skills, lmao. I agree that quickness and alacrity are awful. I definitely want a more conservative approach. I see people complaining about scourge, I doubt it's using shadow fiend for example in its meta build. Or mechanist using rocket boots. The elite utilities and weapons are wack compared to core. This is my issue. The core experience is relatively unusable and I guess my stance is this should be fixed first compared to the boon problem.
  11. Thought I'd make a list of how mocked we are as the game goes on. They love turrets but only when we don't get to use them. Even the wizards have turrets, kitten. Add any I missed. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Forged_Mortar_Battery https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wizard_Turret (page doesn't exist yet but here's a screenshot https://i.imgur.com/IuNYRKr.png) https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Schematic:_Gate_Turrets https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Field_Tech_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Decoration/Turrets https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Security_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sentry_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bandit_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gatling_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bloodstone_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ghostbore_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sniper_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Corrupted_Jade_Omni_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hive_Cannon https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Central_Lab_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Kryptis_Blaster https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Security_Turret_(Sandswept_Isles) https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Turret_(Forged) https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Svanir_Bolt-thrower https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Malfunctioning_Flame_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Perimeter_Ballistic_Turret https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Machine_Gun https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sonic_Cannon https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Turret_(Dragon's_Stand) ... too many, I'm tired and going to bed lmao. Obviously there's the wintersday toy turrets that are actually good too, but that's a whole other thing. Here's what we have: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Destroyed_Turret Also I considered making another thread about how the skyscale fireball has a dps of about 4k, making it better than a turret build, but ultimately, what's the point?
  12. Just bring traited rifle turret, I'm sure you will be taken seriously
  13. I'll just throw out there that core engi is garbage but the tool belt is very nice. Makes me feel like I have a second skill bar I can use just for reacting to stuff. I cannot play any other class, I like it so much.
  14. Yeah, a lot of elite specs have minor traits that just straight up give +X% damage given some easily fulfilled condition. If the spec is overtuned, they don't get rid of that, they nerf the weapons, lol.
  15. I suppose that's more a flaw in execution not philosophy, and that specific example didn't touch core skills at all.
  16. I never really though about it like that. It makes sense. However, instead of the GW1 style of mixing and matching the core profession skills, the hybrid professions gain their own new special skills, often much better than either core profession individually. Both systems have their flaws. GW1 generally only had you take a primary profession for its unique skill line (you could still take those skills as a secondary but couldn't put points in to make them effective). Other than that, the primary profession's skills didn't really have to be good as long as you could dip into a profession that was overtuned. In GW2, both profession's core skills are left to rot in favor of the new. It's my opinion that elite specs are thematically tied to being a hybrid spec, but ultimately function like a different class because of how out of touch they are with core. I think there still is room for actual multiclassing in GW2, through the mastery system, maybe only letting you pick one or two utilities or a weapon. At the very least, it would open a lot of players eyes to how awful a lot of core utilities and weapons are, similar to how the current elite spec weapon freedom is doing. From there, I would hope for balance to bring up the underperformers or nerf the overperformers, but it could also just end up like GW1 did. It's not just you OP. Turret engi can barely break 3k dps and is outdone in every way by even the laziest meta build. Many players are having the problem where they can't even get into the meta to critique how "easy" things are. Which ultimately does state how absurdly broken meta builds are.
  17. For the majority, yeah, you're right. But for people who don't enjoy fotm build swapping, and main stuff like core engi, the only content they can seriously participate in without being carried is open world. Period. The game is not going back to update older class skills to keep up with the power creep. Turrets, gadgets, core ranger pets, kits, to name a few, play like they still belong in 2012. There are two issues - modern specs are overperforming, and older stuff is underperforming. It really has two simple solutions. Buff core skills, gaining more build variety and accessibility, and nerf the cheesy fomo specs.
  18. I believe you. It still sucks though lol. We all know they can do better. They practically have a whole team dedicated to making new weapon sets and BL exclusives every few months, you can't tell me they couldn't go over some polish for not just mortar kit but lots of core profession content. Maybe if they took care of the cow, they wouldn't have to milk it so hard and fear it going dry.
  19. I think their cooldown on remembering core engi exists is still going
  20. They received the hardest nerf the game has ever seen, so hard that I'm pretty sure the devs are blacklisted from speaking about them
  21. Oh thank god. I've been praying that someone will nerf the overperforming turrets build. I am beside myself!
