  1. why would anyone who actually wants a skill based game play this mess? Because it's the best MMO combat out there by far. Everything else about the game just happens to suck but we're too addicted to quit for good. This. All. Day. Long. Someone please help! Point me to another PvP mmo with even half the potential of GW2.What currently active mmorpg games with pvp have you played?
  2. I am not sure any mmo is really doing PVP well. > @bladezero.9470 said: why would anyone who actually wants a skill based game play this mess? i came back for a few days after almost 2 years gone, didn’t last. pvp is powercreeped skillless spam right now, i literally killed people with just arc divider. this game is a joke, & anyone with even half a brain will realise this & quit. thats why population is low & players suck, it’s a reflection of the quality of the pvp experience. I agree completely here, but god kitten... The combat system in GW2 is a million miles better than anything else out there. Nothing. Comes. Close. What specifically is great about it? melee attacks go through wallsa rock on the ground can break LOSyou can be knocked into wallsthe attack animations don't match where the damage is occurringdoes anyone really like stealth implementation in this game?mindless aoe spam is more rewarding than picking appropriate targetsflashing lights and pulsing red circles for every attackuseless traits and skill that no one takessome classes barely have 1 viable build when some have 2-3 great/meta tier buildsWe can dodge? We can jump? Bots are in PvP. I don't even know if GW2 makes the top of lists for MMO PVP, but there are worse out there for sure. The thing is, some of those "lessers", while the still have probably the same complaints, are much more populated. That means they have more people to fight. If circle quest is your best, then this is what you get. Have you seen any initiatives to really make this game mode awesome?
  3. just click your skills, it confuses the enemies
  4. FB is the problem. Necro standing high ground on no port is just a smart play when there is no ranged.
  5. Ranked is for roleplay. I know this cause I watched the Vallun videos, good fantasy stuff and such. But, then some people roleplay that they are a great player amongst millions. Best thing to do at that point is know your "role". Mine is hot and buttered.
  6. We don't live in a time where that is a bad thing.
  7. Give the build a shot in SPVP, I don't know how it fairs in other modes. Unless you let them hit you with every big skill, it takes more than 2-3 hits I play both Thief and Necro. The big difference is, while I mitigate damage as a Necro, I'm also dealing damage at the same time. As a power Thief, I either mitigate damage (dodging and stealth stops you from attacking) or deal damage (zero mitigation), I can never do both. My Reaper Necro has 2300 power, 2.1k armor and almost 30k health plus this build has 100% crit chance. My toughness just keeps getting better over time (corrupter's fervor) so I can take Maruader without worrying about my armor. With 10 stacks of Fervor, that's +300 toughness and -20% condition damage. That is my passive mitigation while hitting with 100% crit chance. Yes Reapers are slow and you can sure run away, but you're not going to bring this down and it gets even better in team fights. This DD change is a joke if they really believe that the Theif can compete in melee range against a Reaper, Holo, Scrapper, and Mirage. I'm not raining on your parade, it's just that it' not a fair game mode for the Thief especially when the Thief can't even decap while in stealth, which is the only traitline that gives passive damage mitigation (resilience of shadows). In addition, the short range of steal only hasten the Thief's death. The whole point of shadow step having 1200 range is to reinforce the "get in, then get out" play style of the Thief profession. Now they are forcing the Daredevil to compete in melee range where the Thief don't belong.Since the devs wont respond to us, let us thieves brainstorm and see if we can make folks cry again. There is always a way,
  8. Warrior greatsword attacks go through walls, nothing new. Move along, move along.
  9. Give the build a shot in SPVP, I don't know how it fairs in other modes. Unless you let them hit you with every big skill, it takes more than 2-3 hits I run full maurader and 3 succesdfull hits from holo, gaurd,sb or warrior are death regardless what they are and the sustain buffs added to DD line do nothing and on top of that u have to hit ur target 3 times more than they hit u all while having a way less forgiving playstyle. Rogue character should be fragile fast and hit hard, their like that in every game and always create salt but that's how the class is supposed to be but over the yrs the balance team caved to whiners and now it's a fast, low sustain class that on average skills/auto's do less damage than higher sustain classes lmao it's a joke!In this build I am running demolisher and fighter. You can watch Noody play with a similar concept and he found success. He explains it better than I can. But if you know how to dodge the buig hit skills with large coefficients, you dont die in 3 hits
  10. Give the build a shot in SPVP, I don't know how it fairs in other modes. Unless you let them hit you with every big skill, it takes more than 2-3 hits
  11. Yeah, I see how you might not like tattoos. But, they were a part of every ritualist armor, I think they are "spiritual tattoos". Anyways, I like the outfit a lot. Good job, Anet. Bought the whole set cause the staff was cool as meow making animal too.
  12. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/SmokeAssault(soulbeast) this skill has greater teleport range (750) and can be unblockable with https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unstoppable_Union which also makes soulbeast mode a stunbreak on 10 second cd and you dudes reduce steal range to 600. lol
  13. They ignore. Trigger will be pulled. Let's see where the round hits.
  14. The experience is about to get A LOT more EPIC....lol
  15. remove from guarantee. make pvp less dumpster fire
  16. this basically.. "i haven't done pvp in ages and when i come back i expect to be the best or else" he said he came back and rode it for 3 MONTHS.... i imagine the rust would be off by then
  17. The only strength thief has is the lack of awareness of his opponents. This lack of awareness gives the average thief the opportunity to decap and +1. If they are aware and have a little mobility, now thief is a liability. Maybe good thief good make the 1 v 1 possible. How long did it take? Was it worth it? (long time, no).
  18. The mobility is questionable now with how fast some classes can move. In the arena, many can hawk you down. For example: Decapping Mirage is blink, jaunt, axe skills. Did I mention they can cripple you while putting on all the face melting conditions.Ranger is pew pew pew. He don't need to catch up. But, he can with his greatsword, and super speed if he aint got a bow. His pet will have no mercy either. By time you get to point, you can't decap because they are already there to stop you.Warrior can chase you down with his weapon skill and he is moving 25% faster. Whew! At least you got short bow to port to safety, but you didnt decap cause he got there just in time.Holosmith starts his chase, leaps leaps leaps, gores stealth and somehow has superspeed. You got the decap? No, CC chain from out of hell and killing damage outta stealth. No decaps for youRune of speed - some slow but hard hitting classes have found use for this plus a few utilities that make their lack of mobility claims questionable.Did I mention that those above can move quick enough to decap, but they also stand a chance to 1 v 1 and fight back, some can even 1 v 2 and live. Sounds fair right? Not to me....not one dang bit. Tanks and Bunker or Anyone really how many classes can you kill alone in a reasonably short amount of time with skill?Plus One: more like plus half.everyone has a form of defense and big hit potential. some hit really hard because they are "not mobile" - questionablethief defense is dodge? evade in weapon. mis-timed dodge is fatal to thief. not an excuse for pitiful damage.Damage on others should be toned way down. If they have boon fart, blocking, more health, access to mobility boost, and stealth they should have damaged toned down to match the mantra of thief. Warrior is like the only class that I think should be able to do what it does in terms of damage because they have to walk everywhere and they dont have stealth or boon farts.
  19. Perhaps get rid of the leaderboard and assign those titles to those who reach a certain rating instead
  20. Yeah, I did. It's a better line of reasoning than the assertion that a thief stolen skill should require the thief to put him or herself in a disadvantaged state in order to utilize it to begin with.Firstly: You say that skills that actually have to hit your target, be placed on the ground, risk being evaded etc "force you into a disadvantaged state" and is "bad design". How you can consider risk-reward and counterplay to be a bad thing is beyond me.Secondly: I compared it to the other stolen skills to illustrate why it is so strong. I can't answer what the stolen skills should do (and I don't think I have), only anet can (if even). My assertions are 1. it is too strong/lacks counterplay and 2. this is why. ("this" being my comparisions to the other stolen skills and everything else in previous posts). See, you did it too. I just think that the dev team actually tried to balance the skills around what would be useful vs the classes being fought. You claim is that steal skills have a particular purpose and are made a particular way intentionally (to counter the opponent and exploit their weakness). And so it drives balance changes. My perspective only serves to counter yours (it means that there is no set purpose or point, and plasma should not be kept excessively powerful under this pretense). So this view does not involve any active assertions. Let's not ignore that thieves have access to smoke fields and can spin with that axe in them to blind warriors, which disables them.I didn't ignore it, but you already brought it up and so I added the fact that whirling axe is a reflect first and foremost (without actively doing a particular combo field interaction). Surely if the point of the skill was to counter warriors, it would do something else than reflect and kill you in retal? If you presuppose the view that the skill is made to counter warrior, then sure it is possible construct an argument if you look far enough and apply some confirmation bias. Theoretical build diversity is so big in gw2 that one skill can both counter and be bad against a the same class with different builds. (unless it specifically counters a profession-wide mechanic somehow). Sure it is. Before the onset of Firebrand, guardians had limited access to stability. if you dazed a guard while aegis was down, he had to either burn JI or purity to respond to you within 3 seconds. In core days guardian was the primary giver of stability, so this makes no sense. There was just less stability (and boons) back then. You still had stand your ground, indomitable courage, and so on. I wouldn't call considering the applications of using fields and finishers that are easily accessible to thief in tandem with the skills they acquire while stealing being "highly selective." Those options should also be considered when you are trying to establish the intent or power of a particular skill. Whether or not whirling axe or throw gunk on their own, without any synergy, follow a standard design pattern or not is irrelevant. They can be easily used in ways that allow them to counter the class they are stolen from.Ah, now you say I should "also" consider those options, when the entire reason for my long tirade was because you ignored half the stolen skills, and overlooked some of the most prominent effects on some of thosen you did bring up. That's what I called selective. It gives you stability. It also gives you aegis, protection, might and fury, which lets you as a thief easily cleave or AOE clones yourself with sword, or shortbow."It gives everything, therefore it counters mesmer". That's the problem, you could take basically any effect whatsoever and justify why it exists if you want, it just confirmation bias. That doesn't matter. If you steal plasma from a mesmer, you have a mesmer enemy. Whether or not it is -only- good against them or not doesn't really bear any significance.Yes it does. If the point of the plasma is to counter mesmer specifically but as it turns out, is actually the most effective and preferable versus almost anything in almost any situation, then there is clearly something up with that. It is of course also possible to hold the opinion that the other steal skills are too weak. We will have to agree to disagree about this.Well I can't force you to defend or explain your position. That sentence was a response to you saying "... a skill that requires them to be in melee range or telegraph a weak-damage move to a class (because, I assume that is how you feel plasma needs to be brought in line)" where you came up with some hyperbole and unfounded assumption on what I want the mesmer stolen skill to be like. I just found it funny how you created a bad skill in your head and then turned around and called it bad design. You heavily implied it by essentially going, in your opening statement, that consume plasma is far out of line for stolen skills by calling attention to the fact that the other stolen skills are either telegraphed or weak on their own. I feel like it was proper to assume this is what you wanted. Glad to see we agree on distortion though. It is unequivocally the best steal skill so that certainly qualifies it for "out of line". I then compared to to the other steal skills to show why it is so. Not sure what I agreed to on distortion, I just meant to bring up that I have talked about it before. It would be good to have anything that isn't so braindead to use, boring to face, and is unequivocally the best steal skill. Conceded, but that doesn't mean that plasma should be weaker. The stolen skills provide tools for exploiting the mesmer's weaknesses, and unfortunately mesmers have mechanics that prevent direct attacking of those weaknesses. Whether mesmer became decent at boon stacking or not recently is irrelevant. They have thematically been centered around generating boons as part of their combat. Chaos line in particular proves this, but there are other examples that tie Mesmers with boon generation. Recency is not relevant in terms of creating a balanced and good game. However history is very useful for refute the idea that plasma was added because mesmer has always been the most boon-focused class, or similarly. All professions can generate boons as part of their combat, even thief and necro. Before 2015 one of the traitlines on each class gave boon duration. And no, mesmer hasn't "been centered" around it, especially not any more than other professions. I don't see how that's a problem compounded by consume plasma. Explain?Sorry for the confusion, what I mean is that the reason why chronomancer is so useful for boons in PvE is because it has alacrity and quickness (both are rare and both boost dps). Just wanted to clarify that chrono being used as a support (esp in pve) does not mean that mesmer in general is any better at giving boons than most classes. I mean... It's still focused around boon generation.Yes, every class has some traitline that is more focused on boons than others (for thief it is acro for example). Some also have a bit in each line like ele.Whether or not they are random thematically for the mesmer makes no difference to me. They shouldn't be random for the thief, because stolen skills shouldn't have a chance of just being useless or unpredictable. The original theme should remain, but remove any of the negatives or what makes it mesmer-y in the first place (traitline is literally called chaos)? And throw gunk chaos armor is fine with rng? It's so kitten quotable: "Whether or not they are random thematically for the mesmer makes no difference to me. They shouldn't be random for the thief". It's a skill acquired for the express purpose of helping fight a particular class. This has been talked about at length above. Sure, now. But-? Noted. If you don't care about the theme that much then I don't know why we're arguing about this.Because some people like to argue based on the original theme or purpose of the skills.Still think plasma is fine. gameplay wise. "Still think", as if it is more than a pipe dream to change someones mind in an internet argument :).But yeah, this is what it comes down to. I think it is overpowered. Why not ask for a plasma skill to replace a garbage skill instead?
  21. And I can skip that entire weeb xpac. yeah right. you will even preorder the top edition
  22. You must have lost 1 v 1 to thief. Mirage is not so immortal now, all other mesmer forms were already thief food. Thief has plenty of counters to.
