Why are you using such an old proton? Gw2 works just fine on Proton Experimental, or some higher GE protons. Try one of those.

 

As for the TP thing people are having issues with, i both listed an item for sale, and bought a random item, and all worked as expected, no crashes. So it probably isn't linux specific.

Weird ArcDPS work just fine in root folder.

For Steam I use GE Proton 7-37
For Lutris I use lutris-GE-Proton7-38 + DXVK 2.0-Async

For me, the transition to CEF has been quite painless.
I only have some wrong fonts being used in the Trading Post. A font called Menomonia isn't rendered, and replaced with a fallback, it seems. Looks similar to New Times Roman.

Haven't been able to play this for a while, since anet did something (probably their cursed, long overdue for replacement "Incoherent UI") in one of their update patches before the Super Adventure event. Keep getting an Error after the game patches, followed with "Initializing...", have to use the Tab key to focus on the Login, Remind me later and Play buttons, then press Enter because the mouse clicks wouldn't land where they're supposed to unless I mouseover the entire screen hunting down the elements, only to receive said error. Some time after I realized that due to the BS, missed out on the final week 4 Black Lion Statuettes rewards from the 4 week event where you have to donate materials, I was close to having enough for a thing I wanted for a character of mine. Of course, this injustice, which surely anet wouldn't do me good for (due to Linux and all/any issues related to it being non of their concern as it is not officially supported if I ever did manage to get back in the game, made me lose interest, having such a shaky foundation for those who play this on Linux, constantly one micro$oft favorable whimsical update patch away from being unable to play, I ruled it out as not worth it/fk it and went on to "greener pastures". But then Nexon went: "Nnnnah.", dropped the cease & desist mace + an iron lawsuit on it and now it's obviously dead in the courts. (apparently the indie lead devs were quite rogue-ish in their dark endeavours).

Now, as I am staring at the GW2 banner icon contemplating about making space for other things by getting rid of its fat 70GB+ as$. I decide to re-confirm what I already know: "It won't work. It's dead. Let it go." by booting it up one more time to get that sweet Error message again, and I notice: "Oh? It's patching... and the "Initializing..." is gone, I can now click around without having to guess where the buttons are as the launcher is no longer bugged slightly to the upper left, which was weird". And oh! There it is! The Error, probably the same one too, just delete this piece of sh- wait... what if... what if I were to log in to the forums which I have used in the past to troubleshoot problems before? Well, I haven't ever posted anything on here before, how about one last try to get things running again before installing something else. Thus here it is, I present, the error:

Needless to say, this ^ stuff is all chinese to me, why can't errors simply tell you: "Ahh, you're missing X and you need to do Y in order to make Z work again.". No, but well perhaps some of you can make something out of it, no pressure, I'll be seeking entertainment elsewhere in the meantime.

One more thing:

lutris-7.2-2-x86_64 (default), tried the "f-shack-7.2" version of it, didn't work, tried the "lutris-GE-Proton7-XX", none of them worked.

DXVK folder has the "v2.1" folder in it, I suppose it has been auto updating itself, which hey, better if I don't have to do it myself, not sure if it has anything to the with the error, but it did ever throw a "DXVK: No adapters found. Please check your device filter settings and Vulkan setup." before on the lutris dropdown menu "Show Log".

^ That's from the aforementioned Lutris' Show Log that I CTRL+C & CTRL+V'd on another occasion. Well, that's all I got, in the past, I used to play this in full windowed screen, but then anet did something which caused the launcher to freeze my PC, the only way around being to switch over to the "Virtual Desktop Mode", which has a slew of its own issues such as no respect for the alt+tab mute option, certain characters such as : ' " ` or < & > not working in-game anymore to name a few, performance wise I could almost swear it worked better in full windowed, but that has been a long time and many patches ago, could be something else, at least I did use to get a steady 70 ~ 60 fps to 60 ~35 in the more crowded/active moments, thus I'd say this is not a hardware issue, but then again, what would I know? Perhaps the logs do point that out.

Anyways, I knew for a while that this was coming, whenever anet talks about direct x and doing this to that... I already know it means incoming trouble for Linux players, generally those who aren't aces in the computing field and solving this sort of stuff will experience issues during the first hours/days of anet's accursed patches, not the first time, been in such situations before, wonder if this time it'll be the last here.

Will check on this tab regularly for a possible solution, mmm thanks for reading. (damñ that's quite a wall, the error logs bloat it up, but I admit to having said perhaps a bit too much, excuse me on that).

Did either of you try the Steam version? You should be able to move the .dat file from your existing install to the folder Steam creates so you don't have to re-download it.

It seems Vulkan couldn't detect your card. Polaris11 is the Radeon RX500 series, which is totally DX11/12/Vulkan compatible. Do you have the proper Mesa drivers?

And it says Vulkan 1.2, it should be 1.3+ now (or package version 23.0.x, same as mesa). What shows

As for the TP thing people are having issues with, i both listed an item for sale, and bought a random item, and all worked as expected, no crashes. So it probably isn't linux specific.

I am rather iffy about steam and will try to avoid it if possible, that said, it does seem to be a final solution type of case given that lutris isn't shaping better any time, from what I've gathered, it has to do with how it conflicts with anet's incoherent UI at the launcher phase.

Been thinking about it, good to know one can simply move that fat .dat file over. Still, don't like feeling cornered between lutris' BS and gaben's intrusive game garden.

Now this is something I can appreciate, you're saying that my Mesa drivers are outdated and thus failing to properly detect my graphic card due to it? Same with the version of my Vulkan?

Any way to update it? Or do I need to uninstall/re-install it? What a disappointment, I thought that all this time things were being kept up to date through the Update Manager on the backend, I assumed that it was done through it since the Driver Manager always says "Your computer does not need any additional drivers". How embarrassing.

Distributions often have multiple versions such as "development", "stable" and "long term support".

 

Usually stable is quite out of date on purpose (hence, stable) and long term support releases are intended for servers and may be years out of date. The update software in these releases will say all updates are installed because the maintainers only apply security fixes for the most part.

 

What's the information on your operating system? I couldn't find it in your original post, though maybe I'm just blind since there was alot to skim through.

 

You should install Steam even if you don't use it, because its a good way to make sure your system has all the things by forcing the package manager to pull them in. Installing it will bring in anything that you're missing for running games except for the hardware drivers themselves.

Which distro do you use? "Driver Manager" and such sounds like Pop!_OS, or Manjaro. Both should have the latest drivers already. Please provide more information on your OS.

I recently tried the Steam beta and the experimental proton and let me tell you GW2 works grate. Try it maybe it will work better for you too. OpenSuse Tumbleweed, Mesa 23.0.3 kernel 6.2.12-1-default, Plasma wayland.

So, as much as I'd love to use proton, my account is 10 years old and I'm not sure how to get it running on proton with an account not linked through steam. How do I go about doing that. I have Lutris, but I'm getting problems installing GW2 under it. Proton worked great with Hogwarts Legacy when I ran it last night. I'd love to get GW2 working on it too, but if I could get some help from you guys on how to do that I'd be grateful. Im using Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS.

There. You can now log in with your 10 year old GW2 account. I'm using GE-Proton7-43, but you can use whatever, Experimental works too.

 

Just remember that it's NOT a Steam account, it's your old GW2 account, so any expansions you want to buy - buy directly from Anet as if you're using the non-steam client. Because Steam purchases are tied to your Steam username, and you're NOT playing GW2 with your Steam username.

Thanks, I saw a post earlier about this, but people were saying that it was a misleading post and it was closed, so I took it for a false statement. I'll download it via Steam and do what you suggested. Thanks for the help! I'll update this post when I have it working.

The final comment is about the thread being misleading, and the thread was locked so I didn't read into it further and assumed it was false.
