As with any game, the class you enjoy playing is the class you will probably play best. What classes have you already played and like?Do you prefer do play support classes (healing, boons, cleansing, etc.)? Or do you like to play DPS classes(melee or ranged, power or condi)?

Others will offer different info than below, or, critique it based on their servers and the compositions they see in their more organized Zergs.

  • do you prefer damageIf DPS for Zerg the most recognized classes are Herald, scourge, dragon hunter and weaver. Weaver to a lesser extent and there are some others that can also be in, but those first three tend to be the dps specs in Zergs

  • Do you prefer supportSupport is mainly covered by firebrand and scrapper with a smattering of tempest.

  • Do you prefer range type fightingHerald is a ranger class for DPS, scourge is kind of ranged, with a smattering of close combat, weaver is ranger when in a Zerg,

  • Do you prefer melee type fightingWarrior (spellbreaker with Elite skill Winds) is mostly melee, and many of the classes may have a melee weapon for some pushes..

It’s generally not accepted in organized Zergs.

There are some that have some success with it, but reference this thread for some of the challenges:https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/124806/dont-rangers-and-thieves-ever-feel-bad-when-commanders-say-no-thieves-no-rangers-please#latest

1) Great professions for WvW, shine from small group to large fights, hardly ever nerfed -best investment for your time and effort : Guardian -Necro -Engineer

2) Good professions for WvW, do great in small fight and large fight , slap on the wrist sort of balance, good investment overall : Revenant - Warrior

3) Good professions for WvW, do great in small disorganized fights , ok at best during large fights, harsh nerfs are not uncommon - overall is worth your time : Ranger -Thief - Mesmer -

4) Ok profession for WvW, does great in small and large disorganized fights , harsh nerfs are very common do not recommend unless you really love it : Elementalist

The list above is the most Unbiased opition you will find at the moment, I am an active multiclass player and I play actively all professions minus mesmer and thieves, my opinion is a collection of experiences over years spent in this game, observing how the balance unfold and treats each profession accordingly. From PvP to WvW, I cannot stress enough for new players to invest in profession at rank 1 - to at least having an alt from the list , while 2 and 3 are good /great as mains but do not expect the best results when it comes to WvW loot/effort p/hr equation, that is reserved to rank 1 professions where your net gain of loot bags for time spent in WvW will leave the rest in the dust

ranger and thief lack Aoe and groupsupport, that's why they're not effective at anything over 10 really.

at guardian, u can also go core guard, it supports better than dragonhunter, dh has only bigger dmg if u get it off.

the best (staple) classes of dmg in largescale are herald and scourge. best sustain classes are firebrand, scrapper, spellbreaker,

shortly after: chronosupport

then come (all similar useful, but not first choice) heal tempest, reaper, berserker, dragonhunter, core guard, staff dps weaver

short behind, not meta anymore dmg scrapper, dmg spellbreaker, dps tempest

not useful in anything over 10 ppl are thief and ranger in the end. immob soulbeast is accepted in some GvG settings but idk. i'm not a fan of it at all. it performs if the enemy group is weak mainly. but then u'd not need any immob anyways.

@Arheundel.6451 weaver is played by really good players still. it does well if u have options to disengage. lives of positining to bring still brutal dps on the table. even seen in gvg settings. therefore, your t3 and t4 shoulda be the other way round. thief and ranger are most useless in bigger contellations, while mesmer has roamerbuilds and a good zergbuild with a lot of options (as chrono)
