It looks like the profession release is going to follow the HoT release order.

I personally find it interesting that they chose to showcase the 3 specs for the classes which are currently the PvE gods. As in, Scourge, FB, Chrono/Mirage. Smart move there to attract viewership. I expect Rev, Ranger and Thief next, with engi, Warr, ele being the last.

The order that the HoT specs were shown in:
Chrono Dragonhunter Reaper Tempest (beta 1)

Herald Berserker Daredevil (beta 2)

Scrapper Druid (beta 3)

It's actually almost identical so far when you look at it that way - it probably just comes down to which ones are designed and done first, nothing to do with popularity.

However, if you check on the EoD page on the website, they've updated the part containing the specialisation icons to put them in a very specific order, which (at least for the first three) shows the order in which they were announced (if that helps you speculate on what actually will be announced next).

Don't do that...

Don't give me hope that warrior may get the Oni mask...

Still quite a few that confuse me, but assuming the following possibilities:

Flame:

- thief, torch

- ele, longbow

Angry face:

- warrior, staff

- thief, offhand mace or axe?

Bullet:

- ele, rifle

- warrior, pistol

- (ranger, rifle?)

Animal mask:

- ranger, hammer or shield?

- warrior, ...?

Big armed guy:

- engi, mainhand mace or focus?

(revenant) eye:

- rev, scepter or daggers?

I think the only almost certainty is the revenant, with engineer also being quite likely. The others, once one is nailed down the rest should follow.

So far 3 new elite specs have been revealed

  1. DARTS ICON --- Mesmer --- Main-hand --- Ranged --- Dagger,
  2. POTION ICON --- Necromancer --- Main-hand --- Ranged --- Pistol,
  3. SWORDS ICON --- Guardian --- Off-hand --- Melee --- Sword

The rest of the new elite icons

  1. EYE AND ?DAGGERS? ICON
--- Almost certain to be the Revenant, for its similarity with the core Revenant icon.
--- Two identical weapons of some kind also displayed, which probably means Dual-Daggers. No other dual-wielding option is possible, apart from Pistols, but the icon can't possibly be showing Pistols.
--- There is also the possibility of a Longbow, as the icon might be showing two Longbows, but considering the Revenant already has a Shortbow, it would be too similar to it and not really a creative step forward.
  2. SAMURAI MASK ICON
--- Probably a katana user, which is a two-handed blade weapon, i.e. Greatsword.
--- It can't be the Revenant for above mentioned reasons, which leaves the options of Engineer, Thief and Elementalist.
--- Engineer is an unlikely option as it is not a good fit for the nature of the profession, it already has enough melee options, and ranged Greatsword, I think, would fit only on a magic-user profession (e.g. core Mesmer).
--- Thief is a good option, Cantha kind of resembles Japan and Thief would be a good fit for a Samurai style medium-armor soldier. Problem is that Greatsword option would leave Thief without any off-hand-only option after core game and 3 expansions and presents a disbalance in weapon usability. Problem is also the Flame icon which displays something like an initiative diamond and Thief is the only good fit for it.
--- Elementalist might be a good option, although considering it already has a melee option in Sword and an almost-melee option in Dagger, Greatsword would be a good fit only as a ranged option (as with core Mesmer). It's a squishy profession with light armor and low health pool , therefore too many melee options don't make much sense.
  3. FLAME AND ?INITIATIVE? ICON
--- Flame would suggest an off-hand Torch.
--- If the diamond on the icon is in fact an initiative point marker, Thief is the only option here. This would also finally give an off-hand-only option for a Thief.
--- Other options for a Torch are Revenant, Engineer and Elementalist.
--- It can't be the Revenant for above mentioned reasons, which leaves the options of Engineer and Elementalist.
--- Engineer is a good fit, it already has access to fire-related skills and another off-hand option wouldn't hurt.
--- Elementalist is not a good fit as the profession playstyle is focused around 4 attunements, not just one (Fire). It also would then be able to use 4 weapons in off-hand while having only 1 two-handed option, which presents a disbalance in weapon usability.

Last 3 icons are a bit harder to pick...

  4. ?GOLEM? ICON
--- The icon displaying a body with huge shoulders and arms with a tiny body.
--- If it is a golem, the only option is the Engineer. With this elite spec, any weapon not currently available to Engineer is an option, although most likely weapon options are Mace, Scepter or Staff, any of those resembling a control rod for a golem, as seen in some other games. The middle part of the icon maybe suggests a Scepter, but it might as well be just a golem body.
--- If it is not a golem and not an Engineer, it could be any other profession.
  5. ?TURTLE? FACE ICON
--- The icon displaying a beast face with ears and eyes. Maybe turtle, as with the mount?
--- If it is a turtle, the most logical option is the Ranger, and weapon options are main-hand Mace, Shield and Hammer. Pistol, Rifle, Focus and Scepter don't seem a good fit for a profession with so much ranged options. Melee option also seems better if turtle suggests a more tanky playstyle.
--- If it is not a turtle and not a Ranger, it could be any other profession.
  6. BULLET ICON
--- The hardest one is the last one, and I would suggest Warrior purely based on elimination of other options. That means Pistol.
--- If it is not a Warrior, it could also be a Pistol or Rifle option for any other profession.

SUMMARY / TL;DR

My expectations are:

  1. DARTS ICON --- Mesmer --- Main-hand --- Ranged --- Dagger,
  2. POTION ICON --- Necromancer --- Main-hand --- Ranged --- Pistol,
  3. SWORDS ICON --- Guardian --- Off-hand --- Melee --- Sword,
  4. EYE AND DAGGERS ICON --- Revenant --- Dual-Wield --- Melee --- Daggers,
  5. SAMURAI MASK --- Elementalist --- Two-handed --- Ranged --- Greatsword,
  6. FLAME AND INITIATIVE ICON --- Thief --- Off-hand --- Ranged --- Torch,
  7. GOLEM ICON --- Engineer --- Main-hand --- Ranged --- Scepter,
  8. TURTLE FACE ICON --- Ranger --- Off-hand --- Melee --- Shield,
  9. BULLET ICON --- Warrior --- Off-hand --- Ranged --- Pistol

PERSONAL OPINION

  1. I actually like all the specs, apart from Warrior. I can see some very interesting options for a lot of playstyles across the field.
  2. As for the Warrior, Pistol seems just bad to me, but I also don't see options that are a lot better. I would say making so many weapons available to Warrior in core game was a mistake that now limits the development of the profession.

OTHER IDEAS AND THOUGHTS

  1. Ranger Beastmaster with multiple pets would be great, although I don't see it in EoD.
  2. Changing armor class for any profession, as some people speculate, is a huge No-No. Nullifying all the time and gold players spent on creating Ascended or Legendary equipment and forcing players to do it again is not something I think any game developer would consider a good move.
  3. Warrior with Pet would be interesting, but again, I don't think it is likely in EoD.
  4. Not related to EoD, but related to Warrior problem of limited development (as explained above), I would suspect future expansions (if-ever) will either:
--- offer a different approach and playstyle to already available core game weapon options,
--- offer aquatic weapons as terrestrial options,
--- offer no news for existing professions, but a new profession(s).

Sorry for the long post, I just started typing and here we are 🙂
