  1. Actually there is nothing pathetic in telling you the truth, that there are a lot of ways to play around stealth and that stealth is nothing like the unbalanced op skill you make it out to be. You know what else has been a problem for years? People not wanting to learn how to fight against stealth or to build in a way they have the option to defend against such attacks, but complaining in the forums about stealth and ignoring every tip or advice given to them from people who have no issues in dealing with "stealth".
  2. I've seen some people infiltrating a tower with the warclaws today. Wasn't this fixed at some point?
  3. Only wanted to mention that it's been a while since Blinding Powder isn't instant anymore. it's true the cast time is small and after that change it also breaks stun, but there were other advantages to it when it was instant too, and with a bit of reflexes and prediction it can be interrupted.
  4. woh, this is almost hilarious, indeed. If having audio is an issue in this day and age... I mean it's not like this game is tetris or worm from back in the old ages. It's a given that if a competitive game mode offers positional sound someone who for whatever reason doesn't use the ingame sound will not be able to perform properly. Guessing position is not actually a must, even if it's doable to an extent, you only need to move around and spam AA and if you hit the thief and interrupt this way his res phase he will be revealed before he can rally. Doing nothing won't help though, and also the 5minutes stealth is a huge exaggeration in this specific case at least when the thief was down. After the SR finishes up the stealth time is 11seconds just so you know. It is a lot but as I said, not enough for someone to rally if they get hit during that time. Also "do math" is like saying you need consciously calculate the length of your stepping when you walk... Sorry to burst your bubble, but the truth is the brain does it subconsciously for us... well at least if we have one... in other words, you don't need to worry about the extreme effort of thinking in this case. The way elementalists can spam aoe all over the simple fact that the guy was an elementalist and did nothing is what killed them.
  5. I really don't get why people are so hung on how stealth works in other games... this is how it works here in gw2 and instead of dreaming about how would you fight against it if it was like in another game which has totally different mechanics than gw2, why not embrace the way it works here and spend more time towards learning how to use it / deal with it in the game. This subject was brought up over and over again and, leaving aside the hate comments, there were always people who explained or showcased how they fight against stealth enemies, how they build to be able to overall be survivable enough in WvW (meaning this includes ambushes), how they bait the stealth user enemies, how they use terrain against them etc. I'm sure instead of pondering about how would it play if X mechanic would be something it isn't, or cry about removing that said mechanic or change it, being realistic and learn about it would be way more helpful. Otherwise it's like asking yourself how would basketball be if you had to use baseball bats instead of throwing the ball with your hands and started making strategies around this assumption.
  6. Just wanted to showcase that rangers are not useless and can be really effective. Sure, the video is a bit of an extreme example, but it answers any concerns about ranger the op had.
  7. Since I see this topic is still so popular after months, here's an educational video I just stumbled upon:
  8. My first time in wvw was around 1 year after HoT launched. I was pretty green with only a little (got-to-max-level without boosts) pve under my belt, entered with a Core DP Tr, DA, SA thief the DBL (I believe the Alpine Borderlands were disabled at that point in time). I remember finding my first player enemy and somehow manged to defeat them, but I bet that build was sort of a surprise after 1 year of only DrD thieves around. Later I had to move on to DrD too, after getting to know some more sustain oriented enemy builds... I used to play all game modes in the begining. Always kept up with the story and the new maps added. When the ESL tournaments were held I got more into SPvP too and mainly there for some seasons, but at some point I realised the matches were draining me too much and didn't have fun there, especially when going for Ascension and needed to carry on professions I was not even too familiar with (part of the achievements needed to be completed), otherwise it would have been a lost match. Afterwards, since being mostly a pvp oriented player and craving some pvp action I've settled on WvW roaming and became a WvW main.
  9. Surely for the gimmicky kills. If he wanted mats and rewards he would have picked another game mode. WvW is nice if you only have like an hour and half after work. I don't know what roaming brings in but floating and reading the maps can land you in most stuff happening and bags can fill up pretty fast. What other game or game mode can you consistently pull or knock people off of cliffs and walls though? Pretty sure if you do a fractal, or a meta event on some map you'll end up with significantly more income than spending time in wvw. Heck, i'm pretty sure if you do your spvp dailies you'll get more value in gold. That being said, it's true that wvw might be more fun to do, so you'll find me there most of the time i'm playing... But I'm surely not doing this for heavy loot bags. Ya, I make enough to gather stuff for a new skin once in awhile and ascended food. Anyone roaming, anyone working siege, or anyone trying to do a variety of stuff besides face planting into blobs have to plan out enough Participation and tag up whatever on the way. I'm like a failed Mandalorian trying to put together my armor and shamefully short in Legendary pieces, which might be partially laziness but everything else cost gold also. I almost wish WvW had bounties or missions or something but fight clubs would get that killed off.Well, if you're not a compulsive achiever, there is no need to collect your mando armor fast. It's the journey that matters, and as long as you enjoy it, it's worth the time.

  12. I can confirm this is true. I do play thief and also always feel sad with my life. I didn't know there was a correlation there. Props to the community to do research and point this out.
  13. video or it never happened, lol Hell I do this all the time. Its great when you can load em up, they dismount and as they dismount, you knock them down and load em up more xDYou can dismount before being knocked down, though. Also, you can evade most of the condi bomb on the mount too, you have 2 dodges.
  14. yeap I've seen these nasty fellows more often in wvw lately. I just need to not get too carried away and leave while I still can. Their shroud uptime is insane :))
  15. video or it never happened, lol
  16. There are some blind people playing this game if they can't see all the benefits the warclaw provides.
  17. For years i never understood why people always said this about Thief specifically, like it's some sort of "master" class. Thief is one of the most beginner friendly classes in the entire game, especielly if you pick Daredevil. It has no confusing mechanics or traits like say, Herald, no requirement to swap kits and attunements back and forth to perform well like Engi or Ele, you don't really need to swap weapons even or manage cooldowns at all even, thanks to how initiative works and most of your abilities are tab target. I always recommend new gw2 players to pick Thief since it's a selfish (in a good way) class with easy to understand and execute mechanics. But yeah, regarding experienced players, i get what you're saying but that goes for any class and any build really. Thief main btw. If I would voice my opinion on why people say this, is that thief/drd is not a profession you can just take out there in the field and mash some buttons, abuse aoe and range, and take down other stuff just with a little kiting and tones of sustain. If you play thief the setups you need to do are a bit more complex and the way you time your dodges and your burst matters, otherwise you're going to be done fairly easily. Yes, thieves have a lot of defensive tools at it's disposal, at least some more duelist oriented builds, but most beginners think that if you can stealth you are immortal and can be wasteful with your initiative and cooldowns, which is not the case for more experienced players, and those things are not something that most players learn and get the feel of overnight. At least this is my take on it. To just start to play thief you'll need some basic understanding of combos, positioning and overall game mechanics to know what to dodge or not to be able to survive. Meanwhile other professions can be just taken as they are and be fairly efficient even without knowing all that stuff. I feel completely opposite of what you feel. I have told guildies to try thief out and given them some copy paste shadow arts daredevil build and they immediately become killing machines compared to their mains. You just kinda need to learn how to precast backstab into steal/swipe/shadowstep and learn how to 3-4 leap through a smoke field, and this is done in 30 mins or so. For years I've heard other thief mains talk up their class as some kind of master brain class which I simply do not believe the thief is, at all. I believe that thief, especially daredevil is one of, if not the most low effort high reward class in the game and have been for quite some time. Opinions I guess...Maybe your guildies could pull of something like that cause they aren't 2 weeks old into this game, I can guess they are all playing for at least a few years now. But the person quoted mentioned they played the game only for 2 weeks. Now go back to when you were only 2 weeks into the game and tell me you could pull off any of what you said you do in 30 minutes.

  19. On the other hand you don't have cleaves or aoe spam in wow. Your channeled or charged abilities lso don't hit or follow people in stealth.
  20. Also you'll usually encounter fairly experienced people using thief, since it's not that easy of a profession to handle as a beginner. You can't expect to be able to beat experienced players after 2 weeks.
  21. I understand this "favoritism" you are talking about, but on the other hand, traps are and always were the most brain dead utilities in the game. You need no skill to place some, than leave or do whatever, while they do the job for you instead. They are somewhat like ranger pets, but also in stealth. That being said, if they are used as an utility mecanic that gives you a strategic advantage (e.g. shadow trap), they would be ok (not sure if "trap" would be a fitting name for such though, but with some that are used for crowd control with low or 0 dmg it might), but if they are made to inflict tones of dmg to the enemy, be it condi or power, while also adding tones of control effects and letting them stack... As I said, bad design.
  22. I main thief and spend most of my time in wvw. Can't say I feel miserable, and while I usually avoid blobs, I have no hard feelings against their existence. They do their stuff, I do mine. Like someone previously said, there is a lot of option in game, if you like something else more, go for it, not everything needs to be the same, work the same have all benefits a profession can have and be an all rounder. Some specs are just niche specs that specialise in something specific with it's own flavour. Also, there is no profession right now in the game that is useless, everything has a place.
  23. I agree they should change the guards a bit, to attack the ranger instead of the pet, or the necromancer with pierce instead of the thousand minions they carry with them and have some dmg reduction to aoe spam fields. Hopefully that way they would be a bit of challenge to those who think that their overtunned abilities against moobs actually makes the camp guards too easy.
