  1. Since people have tiresomely swarmed my main (engy) class with mechs, I think it's a good time to pick up my ele and get better with it. Mechs are just stupid OP. I've played mainly weaver with my ele and enjoyed it quite a bit. Seems pretty selfish dps, but good dps and fun to play. Tougher than I expected, given the memes. As my engineer, I prefer playing scrapper where I feel I do decent if not stellar damage (compared to, say, holo) but I'm helping everyone else with all the boons I can toss around, mass heal, etc. So I really enjoy a role that's maybe 60/40 dps/support instead of all-damage. But don't get me wrong, doing crazy awesome damage ain't bad. My ascended light gear is celestial, and while I of course could change it I ask the following questions hoping to rather not need to: for the above modes, would you pick tempest, weaver, or cata and why? Thanks for any advice from much more experienced elementalists than myself!
  2. Nope. Day 1 engineer here, and I've always been FINE with being a mediocre dps spec, not LFG'd. I like playing and having people even occasionally say "wow, thanks - that was a lot easier than expected. " obviously surprised that Engineer didn't intrinsically suck as much as they'd heard. So maybe don't use the word 'everyone'?
  3. Not specifically, but having a braindead OP spec that is never challenged leaves these players never learning anything, thus never improving.
  4. With the Steam release, the fact that Mech is brain-dead to play and vastly OP means the game will be swarming with Engineers now. The other night I was in a DS group that out of maybe 20 had 12 mech engineers. I frikkin' hate being a class that's suddenly FotM.
  5. Because the devs at Anet naming characters in worldbuilding aren't going to call them BigDick the Enormous or Legolas of Minas Tirith. If players could be trusted with such naming abilities, we would have them. I think we all agree that no, players can generally not be so trusted.
  6. While I don't disagree with your assessment, I would assert from my point of view: - I'm playing an MMORPG for the M, M, O, RP, bits. - there's no RP except what you make yourself, we get that, that's just the state of the art. - if I didn't want the MM, I'd just play BDO which is like a pretty single player game in a world with lots of other people playing a pretty single-player game too. - I can get the G lots of places and have a better balanced, more finely-tuned experience if I really wanted to play content in a jar that resets every time I come back. It's like sitting down to read a massive 4-volume series only to find that the newest volume is largely a bunch of short stories. It's so tedious trying to contrive long-form narrative, keeping track of all these characters, what they want, where they are, what they're trying to do over thousands of pages....let's instead just write a 150 page collection of one-off vignettes like 'Daenerys buys a cup of coffee' or 'Tywin visits the cobbler' and call it a whole story?
  7. Absolutely. Not even normal elitists, but the toxic ones? 100%.
  8. My $0.02 is simply that the idea that 'coolant blast' DOESN'T EVEN REDUCE YOUR HEAT is ...silly. I'd even accept cauterize as a consequence if it meant I could stay in holo another 5s. On par with the idea that my holo who is practically red-hot can be 'chilled' (or worse, entombed in ice in Bitterfrost) is silly, but I know we'll never get that. 🙂
  9. I'd like to succeed on it at least once, just because it bothers me never to have done it. Saying it's random pugs blah blah feels like a rationalization of my own failure to perform so it pisses me off. Personal, I know.
  10. Maybe I'm just a "bad' but I'll be honest: if I'm providing boons, I have no effing idea where my sub is in DE meta, for example. They could be anywhere on the platform because there's nothing that tells me where they are (nor, even if there was, do I expect I could see it in the fireworks show). I end up just doing my thing, popping my serial quickness (frex) on schedule, and wondering how much doing that is hurting my dps to potentially no benefit. And EDIT: fifth? sixth? failed PUG of DE meta SoupWonton fight. Never succeeded yet once, and not sure why I keep bothering to try since the rewards if you don't succeed mean purely wasted time that I could have spent doing some other more reliably successful meta. 😐
  11. Personally, I think you're taking what was basically a tongue in cheek criticism of what STARTS as 'ridiculous marketing fluff' made even MORE ridiculous by the kitten state of the warrior as (imo) one of the least fearsome melee classes in the game.... ....ENTIRELY TOO SERIOUSLY . Jesus what, 10 posts? more? insisting and repeating over and over and over that somehow this is undercutting the serious attention Anet is paying to the warrior? What serious attention is that, pray tell? I think the objective lesson here is that everything about warrior actual performance is literally comparable to 'ridiculous marketing fluff'.
  12. Maybe some of us just aren't as complacently accepting of marketing fluff being meaningless? I mean, you're not wrong, it IS. But occasionally maybe it's OK to push back when marketing fluff is complete and utter bs and say "hey, um, you actually SAID this, so shouldn't it have *some* connection to reality?"
  13. As long as "good" means ignoring the class's main mechanic. (shrug) When's the last time you saw an OW meta boss with strippable boons?
  14. Unmatched? Is that true? Has it ever been? "Adrenaline-fueled fighters that people bring along to groups mainly because they have some neato flags" doesn't have quite the same punch.
  15. I know I am. Look, I love my engineer. She's been my main since the first week of the game (I had a sad little flirtation with Thief until I realized in core Tyria that playing a glass cannon based on dodging when it seemed every important fight was on some dumb scaffolding(?) was stupid; sue me). But...I *hate* playing FotM classes, which is very much the Mech right now. It's just so kitten overpowered. Pet class (so already one step into easy mode), gobs of buffs regularly, a mace that hits like a flippin' truck, nearly impossible to die. I mean, if I wanted to play City of Heroes I would. What I hate the most is showing up at some meta and seeing a battalion of identical green mechs wandering all over. Sigh. Even though it's less game-optimal, I tend to play holo instead most of the time. (Or if I'm really feeling like a masochist since March, a scrapper, formerly my favorite spec.)
  16. Surprised nobody has commented, this is really useful. Thank you for all the hard work!
  17. Not to mention every mech looks identical. Is that my mech? Is that mine? Is that one?
  18. I'd guess that 50%+ of the GW2 population does 4k or less single target dps. Maybe even a higher percentage.
  19. (shrug) On what 'principle'? Mukluk is a long time supporter of gw2 and has done a great job explaining and promoting the game. I'm not personally a fan, but your condescending reply is about as empty of meaning as a fanboy's frothing mindless support. FWIW He discovered the build based on a disabled one-armed player wanting to play something that meaningfully contributes so he was looking for LI builds. The fact that an engy can auto-bomb their way to 20k+ dps is definitely something I'm going to test tonight both on a golem and in real-world situations.
  20. It's almost like the whole water mechanic was a good idea someone had at the start, they left the team early, and the game has forever since been stuck 'dealing' with (compromising, kludging around) a kitten design choice that they really just wanted to walk away from years ago. Note, for example, it's always been 'a thing' that since you switch to a whole new set of weapons involuntarily when you touch water, you loose all accumulated stacks if you have sigils that do that (unless your water-weapons ALSO have those sigils). And don't even get me started on the whole goofy-kitten 'swimming on the surface so you can't touch your weapons' thing.
  21. ...I mean, we are the "little remote bots" CLASS, now everyone gets them? And TBH they're far more general purpose than ours ever were. It would have been nice to maybe get a LITTLE love for a scrapper coming to Cantha.
  22. Having played a scrapper and holo pretty extensively I was generally meh on the mechanist when I took it through the first zone, trying to play it mainly like a pet class - rifle, let the pet do the work. Meh. Anet hates rifles. But then I tried the 1h mace we got as the spec-special weapon. O. M. G. The damage. I mean, you only have the three abilities - auto, a charge, and a short ranged (300? 450?). Cooldowns are very fast and the damage was borderline absurd. My arcdps was down but every nearly hit was 3000-5000 damage. MUCH more damage than say, scrapper 2h hammer (which doesn't make any sense but whatever). Seems like that's very much the intended tool for the job on the mech build.
  23. That's all we need, a constellation of orbiting raisin-goblins.
