  1. Close, but I actually suggested binding keyboard 2/3 to mouse movement X axis Left/Right, that way all one needs to do is slid the mouse around (no button presses required). This would require the least amount of wear and tear on my old body! 😄 Don't feel bad, that is totally a thing! When I played a fair amount of Stardew Valley a while back, I wore the edge of my finger raw (at the nail) trying to get that little farmer to run faster. This inspired me to finally get around putting the rubber gaskets under all of my keycaps so that there is a bit of give rather than a hard bottoming out (Cherry MX Red clone mechanical keyboard). The gaskets help a bit, but 99% of the problem is really just the o'l brain thinking that pushing harder helps lol... I have to agree with the sentiment that fishing being more challenging in core Tyria doesn't feel right, but due to the way the content was added to the game (via paid expansion late in the game's life cycle), it does make sense. Fishing being the easiest right where we first learn fishing itself is smart/obvious and then having it be more challenging in old places gives us another reason enjoy those old places. I get it and, as an old player, I like it, but I could see how it might confuse a person who is completely new to GW2 and who doesn't inherently understand its overall design. My initial feedback about using a 2D mini game rather than a 3D one was spot-on for this beautiful 3D world (I'd rather look into the world than at the UI), but it failed to consider how people on the Internet like to be jerks. Plenty of folks get their jolly's by parking their boats over your lure, which would be game breaking if the mini game took place over/at the lure. So, I was wrong; The mini game is great as a UI element! That said, the complete randomness of the mini game is a let down, because it doesn't allow the player to learn any behaviour at all. By comparison, the fishing mechanic in Stardew Valley is comprised of four behaviours, Smooth, Sinker, Floater, and Dart, and each type of fish consistently uses some or all of those behaviours. When combined with the time of day and season, it allows the player to literally learn how to catch specific types of fish. Truly, it's a brilliant design. The same could be done for the fish in GW2 and it would give the whole fishing system a real bite. 😉 I completely agree that the Fishing Party buff needs to stick to the player, not the skiff, and that it needs to persist for at least 2 minutes after dismounting the skiff. Ideally it would last for 30 minutes so that we could enjoy the beauty of fishing in Tyria from dry land. Finally on the bag space issue, GW2 already has a solution to this problem for other item types, in bags that prefer specific item types. A great solution would be to add two new bag types, one that prefers fish and another that prefers fishing lures/bait. No need to reinvent the wheel, simply add some more values to the database while utilizing an existing mechanic. Also, it encourages players to buy bag space expansions with gems. Overally, I'm happy with the system and I appreciate that they finally added it. Thanks!
  2. And doing so would likely take all of 20 seconds to write a SQL statement...
  3. But it did have mounts. A lot of mounts. Mounts that each had their own unique game play systems and a load of related content.
  4. So was I! I had heard about the game at one point in passing, so I went in there a couple days later assuming that I'd get to see Canach and he'd say a bunch of hilarious Canach stuff and it would be a great o'l time. But nope, it's just... a stupid waste.
  5. Yes, but... I pre-ordered EoD 100% for the fishing and to be fair, I am satisfied with the fishing. However, what disappoints me is that the dramatic drop in quality of the 3D level work and the lack of use of existing game play systems (races, adventures, mini-games, hero point events, mastery events, etc) tells me that the people who made and implemented these systems and who forged amazing 3D places like Tarir are no longer working on GW2. I'm sure the people who made EoD did the best they could, but it's just poor by comparison to Core/HoT/PoF. I have exactly zero hope for the future of this game. Also, I still hate Aurene. I can't believe they made the cop-out Dues Ex Machina character even worse by adding super cringe worthy voice acting... No offence to the voice actress, but the combination of laughable dialog and that performance is just awful. So many times, just ridiculous... Also, why do so many characters in this game speak like they're constantly out of breath? That's always bugged me about the male Sylvari and some other characters too. I have never met a single human being who legitimately speaks like that, maybe that's why it irritates me so much... it's sooohhh drahhhmahhhtic *fainting with the back of the hand on the forehead*. 😄
  6. I do feel for people with a lot of alts. Even my 10 characters, most whom I rarely play, would be a chore to set up. However, for a single character the system isn't too bad. My one complaint would be the how a "Level 1 Service Chip" requires a "Level 6 Core". Why do that? It's just confusing.
  7. Let me put it this way, Auric Basin is basically the pinnacle of Guild Wars 2, in both game play design and the quality of the art/sound/music. That one zone from HoT is more entertainment dense than all of the EoD zones combined. It's clear that the people who loved the mythos of Tyria into existence have moved on and it makes me really sad. I remember reading a head stone in a corner of Ebonhawk one day and it made me realize just how much the people who made this game really loved the world they were creating. As with all things, that time has passed.
  8. THIS, SO MUCH THIS! Arbeostone can suck a lemon thb. It's dreary, overly large, uninspired, and just plain boring. It shouldn't even exist.
  9. Even still, it would only ~185 gold to buy it, which is certainly within reach of anyone who can sell things on the TP (so not F2P players). I've felt the gold to gems conversion system was far to generous, if not laughably so given how NCSoft has gutted ArenaNet over the years... Anyway, because you can convert gold to gems, this new rod technically is available through game play - any game play that earns gold.
  10. Seriously, you expect us to intentionally play Simon Says? It was eye rolling enough when you used it as a mechanic in the story, but I think making it the only game in Canach's casino has reached the level of truly insulting, to both the human beings playing GW2 and Canach's legacy as the most awesome character in all of Tyria. Being cheap and/or lazy was all that stopped ArenaNet from licensing and customizing 2D games from a first party, such as PopCap Games (EA) or a middleware provider. When hobbyists of all ages can program hundreds of hours of intricate 2D and 3D games, it's certainly nothing but shear laziness for a studio of professionals to push trivial BS like Canach Says to a live service, especially as the only option of its content type. ArenaNet should be embarrassed and ashamed. Frankly, I am shocked this is what went live. And to top it off, this will remain as dead content, because it genuinely sucks, and therefore the bean counters will say, "why should we waste money on improving something that nobody uses???". Good Job! 😐
  11. "Options are awesome!", I always say. I too would be happy to complete something like the Roller Beetle collection again (even though it was kind of a pain to find people to help kill that beetle...). Effort? No problem! I'm just not going to do things with my leisure time, in a computer game, that I don't enjoy, let alone that find actively irritating and obnoxious. It's like with the story: it sure would be nice if there were a non-combat or limited combat option, even if there weren't any rewards. Everyone KNOWS that the Commander is going to win, so I'd rather not spend 40+ minutes plodding through the boring combat/puzzle sequences to get there. If I want to do combat, I know where to find that all over Tyria...
  12. I appreciate the opportunity to purchase an alternate skiff skin, however I have to say that neither the dragon boat nor today's golden canoe are my style. I like the understated, simple appearance of the many canoes and boats that are already used as set pieces throughout the game. Ideally, I would like a single seat sea kayak in either the modern style or a wooden style, but if that won't work with the game mechanics, a plain wooden canoe can be every bit as beautiful without being ostentatious. This I will happily spend my money on. 😉
  13. Yeah, I am not going to do the strike mission. I won't do the final meta event either. There are plenty of things I love about GW2, from the game play mechanics themselves to the lore of the world and its many fun characters, but multi-player dungeons have never been a part of that. Never in the near decade I have played. I swear to Lyssa, I'm still angry about the nearly 3 hours of my life that wasted on the one time I did that Forging Steel public mission. After the first 20 minutes of following a tank around, I just wanted it to be over... I utterly loathe this type of content. Soloing a DRM? That I don't mind; It's basically a standard event in a private instance. It doesn't take forever to complete. It's not full of toxic and/or useless players.
  14. I'm old. Not that old, but old enough to be developing arthritis in my knuckles. Yay! It sucks. 😐 I've been playing WASD/Mouse 3D games since the late 90s, but now it really does hurt to play any of them for too long. I hate to admit it, but it's the truth. Anyway, I was thinking that for fishing I could make an AutoHotkey script (which I could toggle on/off with a key binding) that binds pressing 2/3 to mouse movement Left/Right and pressing 1 to Right Click, but I would hate to get banned for using third party software. So... maybe you folks over at ArenaNet could do us old folks a solid and come up with a built in toggle for tying the fishing button mashing to mouse movement? Please and thank you. That would be awesome. Maybe add the toggle to one of the empty slots on the fishing skills bar. Thanks for the consideration. Sincerely, - An Aging Gamer Ps. Thanks for all the fish! I haven't actually been fishing in real life since I was a kid 40+ years ago, but it's a nice way to relax in the beautiful land of Tyria while remembering the times I went fishing with my late father and brother. My main fishing character is a tribute to my bro, who I should have spent more time with despite his flaws; Obviously a self-serving endeavour, but it's kind of neat to see him as a hero in another land. 🎣🦸‍♂️
  15. This year I got COVID instead. It was awesome! 😐 Seriously, it's already so busy for we parent folk at Xmas time. When ya throw in 3 kids and two parents trying their best to isolate from each other in a small house, only for all of them to get sick anyway, it's kind of hard to have the wherewithal to play a computer every day. Was I stuck at home? Yeah. Could I have fit it in there? I guess, but I just didn't have it in me. So happy I was doubled vaxxed. That said, in years past I did pump my Karma up to 3 million or so and I still have 1.2m left over. But, I also purposely almost never spend it on anything in case I need it. I doubt very much I would spend it all on two fishing skins, because I have characters who need functional gear and the... other things and junk. Now if they cost 500 Spirit Shards, I got that covered! 😄
  16. This is worth repeating until it's taken to heart by ArenaNet and fixed. A huge portion of the player base is just average people having fun being average, if not derpy. Sincerely, Derpy Average Person (who has been using the same gear for, like... 6 or 7 years)
  17. There are story instances from years ago that I still haven't done and I utterly loathed many of the ones that I did do. And it's not even that I can't do it, I just... really hate it and don't want to. I get where the OP is coming from. More to the point though, the group of people who do enjoy this stuff are the same group who are toxic. The less time they spend in the open world with normal folks, the better.
  18. I 100% agree. It's so irritating how a couple of people who work for a company think that it's cool to force what they like upon the paying customers who may well enjoy something entirely different. Just because you like it doesn't mean the rest of us do. I'll be hanging on to my money until you get that through your heads. 👍
  19. If you check my post history, you will find that I both asked for fishing and said that it would be fine even if it was just a copy of Stardew Valley's system. Mechanics wise, that's pretty much what we got, so I can't complaint. But, I am going to go ahead and complain anyway. 🙂 The fishing bar mechanic itself isn't bad, but I do have to admit that in a beautiful 3D environment like Guild Wars 2, it does suck a lot to stare at the fishing bar at the expense of being in the world. It actively removes the player from interacting and enjoying the world. There is no zen here. I program. I know it's easier to make a 2D UI based game play system. However, it's just not the right fit for this beautiful 3D game. If they took same mechanics and attached it to visual cues attached to the bobber, it would keep us looking into the world, combining our character's action animations with the pole and the line and the physical environment around us. I sincerely appreciate having the fishing system. I just wish it enhanced the feeling of being in the world rather than pulled us out of it.
  20. This is why complex "raid mechanics" should be limited to optional content, like raids and hard mode dungeons. After more than 20 years of MMOs we know this kind of content caters to a minority of players and said group has a toxic culture. The inhabitants of Guild Wars 2's open world almost always pleasant. It would be nice if stayed that way. Stick the obnoxious raiders away in their instances, thanks.
  21. I encounter horrible "micro stutter" when I enable DX11 and restart the game, all other settings being the same. Even on the lowest possible settings. Happens today, happened from the start of the beta. Please leave this as optional, because it makes the game not only worse, but nauseatingly unplayable. Windows 10 Home 64bit 21H1, Nvidia driver 496.49. AMD FX-8320, Nvidia GTX1660, 24GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM. GW2 runs great without DX11 enabled.
  22. This worked for me as well. Using Windows 10 Home 64bit 21H1, Nvidia driver 496.49. I've always had the game installed in C:\Games\GW2 and had C:\Games in my exception list. So not the problem. Above noted solution did fix the issue however.
