  1. I cannot tell which is best, but I can testify that I enjoy spear on the warrior and hate the engineer's harpoon gun.
  2. For engineers, there are two periods: before mechanists and after mechanists. The numbers gw2efficiency works off probably are for the total number of hours played on any given profession for all registered accounts it has access to. (That is my personal hypothesis, no more, no less.) Since that includes about nine years of data before mechanists came out, that is no surprise. If data were limited to the last six months, you can bet it would be an entirely different story.
  3. That's basically why I started this thread. I run arcdps and I know about where I stand. I do not really feel 'carried' so far, just barely keeping up. I might pass under the radar in a strike group, but not in a challenging fractal one. I have invested in a condition armor set. I am sticking with sceptre/focus right now because that's what feels like the most manageable learning curve. I'll practice the build in open world and lower-tier fractals to get the hang of it before heading into T4s. I'll keep you posted.
  4. Thank you for the constructive feedback. I have not made up my mind yet, but from what I am seeing right now, I am leaning toward investing in a condition ascended armor set as a short- to mid-term objective, as suggested by @Infusion.7149. The videos you recommended would ease the transition. While @Mariyuuna.6508 makes good points imo, build diversity is more a stretch goal for the long term. Getting into raiding (as a revenant) is higher on that list, but that is a different project. Right now, my main drive is completing the Ad Infinitum collections. I only need some 650 fractal relics to be done with the third collection. While I am aware that firebrand and mechanist are definitely meta, that is not something I am considering at all. I shall do fractals on my good ol' elementalist, or bust. Weaver? I want to love it, but it feels as bad or worse than catalyst.
  5. I have been slowly progressing through fractals through PUGs on my tempest and last night, for the first time, I could see the t4 fractal listings in the LFG tool. I admit, I got a little intimidated. It looked like strike listings, but for 5-people groups. So far, I had been doing ok on T3's. I play a fresh air build with Berserker gear, but my dps has been . . . lackluster. Not to a point I feel like a burden to my parties, but making me apprehensive of pulling my weight adequately on T4 PUGs. There are three options I am considering, from most to least appealing: Keeping course as a fresh air tempest. Tips are welcome. Switch my gear to condition or support and learn that. I can probably afford it, but I am reluctant to bounce around looking for a new niche. Switch to catalyst with more or less the same gear. I have tried it in the open world and found it was so much of a headache compared to tempest. Constructive input welcome.
  6. Yes, that's quite sad. Smodur from S2 was a charr one could respect. The IBS one . . . 🤬
  7. What do you mean, "maybe" ?!? I can back that. But ultimately, for me, it was S4, both in itself and because that's when I came back to the game after having quit sometimes during S1.
  8. I have seen that repeatedly in Sandswept Isles. While what @mikansei.5742 reports sounds a plausible explanation, my recollection of the bug makes me doubt that is the cause. I have never noticed anything similar on any other map. Where did you?
  9. Off topic: @Eloc Freidon.5692, I love your signature.
  10. Old content still being relevant is one of the main strengths of this game. Seeing old content become deserted is quite depressing. The quandary for ANet and GW2's playerbase in PvE is that any additional content--mostly thinking of new LW maps--dilutes the active players on an ever increasing number of maps and activities, unless you can counter that by an equally significant increase in active players. I am not arguing to stop the development of new maps, but producing them too fast can be almost as detrimental to the game as stopping all development.
  11. Starting the PoF expansion may give you a massive quality of life boost by unlocking the raptor for your whole account (unless they changed that recently?). Otherwise, if you have the gems and money, yes.
  12. I have heard it can be very profitable. Let's do . . . wait. I play this game for enjoyment and for me GW2 fishing turned out to be loathing at first use. And I thought fishing Stonescale Eels in WoW back in 2005 was bad (before they introduced fishing nodes).
  13. The window that pops up to enter and exit fractals, the one where all five players vote, is very obnoxious. It is large, opaque, and often pops up when we are trying to do something else. It also makes one feel like poking the one player that is not ready to enter or leave, even if we know they may have perfectly valid reasons for delaying. I know it can be dragged somewhere else on the screen, but that is not enough. I would much prefer something smaller and slightly off from the centre of my screen. I would also like to be able to minimise it.
  14. What do you like doing? If you do not care for the story, drop it. If you do, then yes, I would recommend it. If continuity matters to you, get and play them in the order @sylmatyr.1485 gave above. If what you want is shiny rewards, I recommend more or less the following order: S4: Skyscale mount, great maps and metas, Vision (leg. accessory) good story, roller beetle mount, loads of volatile magic (easily converted to gold) S5, aka IBS: good maps and metas, Stealth 2.0 (for mounts), decent story that becomes really bad at the end S3: nice maps, Aurora (leg. accessory), unbound magic, good lore, but really tangled plot S2: good lore, several Central Tyria mastery points, but long Ultimately, it is a game. Do what you enjoy. The rest you will pick up more or less by osmosis. I came back four years ago myself and I am still expanding my activities.
  15. That^ This fight is a marathon for boss killing and a sprint for egg smashing. If you can't smash the eggs fast enough, you will fall behind and the destoyers will wear you down rather than the other way around. Furthermore, the eggs are shielded. You need to be in melee range to smash them. In short, bring good burst damage for the eggs and take the boss more slow and steady. If you are not good at jumping shockwaves, stability is your friend. OK, stability is always your friend, but sometimes more than usual.
  16. So far, what I have seen is very much in line with what passed for the 2021 anniversary sale, which was but a shadow of the 2019 and 2020 ones.
  17. Oh, and one thing I forgot: trying to level any two armor/weapon-crafting professions simultaneously without buying materials is made harder by the fact that they compete for key materials: trophies to make insigniae and inscriptions.
  18. To each their own, basically. If you want to fast forward the process, you will need to use gold to buy materials off the BL trading post. Maxed out professions can help you make very useful items for your characters (e.g., exotic and ascended-quality gear), or profitable items to sell on the trading post (e.g., Bolts of Damask). It nevertheless remains a long-term project unless you advance the aforementioned gold. I found trying to keep my crafts relevant while levelling a character very awkward. Note: crafting items is one of the fastest ways to bring your character to level 80, if you have the material to do so.
  19. While I agree with the feeling, I must say that by the same logic, asuras (asurans?) would equally fit the bill. As a former WoW player, they strike me as combining the worst characteristics of both gnomes and goblins. This being said, I entirely sign this petition! Ambient dialogue is good. Repetitive ambient dialogue in a high-traffic area is not so good. Repetitive, shrieking slander in a hight-traffic area is like nails on a chalkboard.
  20. As far as I can tell, there are four basic gold-making processes. RL money --> Gems --> Gold. Fastest, most efficient, if you wish to go that route. Dailies (2 gold/d per account), Tequatl (1 gold/d per character) and Dragonstorm (2 gold/d per account) High-end vendor trash, like Shiny Baubles and the contents of Cracked Fractal Encryptions. Trading Post. Find something that people want to buy and sell it there. There are so many ways of making money there it would take hours to go over them, but the learning curve is distinctly steeper than the other three.
  21. And the Award for Best Villain goes to . . . the one and only Palawa Ignatius Joko. Praise Joko! Season 4 Mounts in general and how each has its niche Open World metas Original GW ambience music in desert maps Horizontal progression Rytlock and Marjorie's voice actors Gold-to-gems and back system Kodans How focused the story has been from core game to EoD
  22. It is likely to come from the merging of the various dungeon currencies into a single one a couple of months back.
  23. Yes, I always select them. Check, that is already my default operating procedure. I am in Eastern Canada. There is no reason ping would be worse than most other people.
  24. I was back in DWC this weekend and got really frustrated with the Charrzookas in the Dominion bombers events. The Charrzooka missiles are homing, yet they seem to miss half of the time at least. I found that chances of hitting were higher when the bombers were moving more or less toward you, but as soon as they begin passing by you, you start hitting once in a blue moon, despite said homing missiles moving much faster than the bombers. Bug or feature? Better tactics than the one I described?
