Missed Opportunity - Dynamic Events - Rant

Recommended Posts

What you describe does not sound entirely unattractive to me, tbh. 🙂 Do not forget this is still  PvE with GW2 rules, so everyone gets Loot, kill credit, and the events reset constantly. It is not like you only get one chance.  For me one of the attractions would be to actually find the events when they are going on: I would not really mind if others would want the event to go this way or that way: I am sure I will find a time where I can let the event go my way. This is the sort of Coop play that I actually like in GW2, as opposed to being stuck with a group in a dungeon.

I agree with you that this Tab would not really add a lot of replay-value, since when you have finished a Zone once, you are done for that part. That is why I would like to see more elaborate chains with more diverging paths, so it will take you longer to tick every box.  Even now, after playing for so long, I sometimes run into a DE that I have never seen before(Core Tyria).

I agree it is a shoppinglist, but let's face it, a lot of content in GW2 is some kind of shoppinglist. At least in PvE it is.  However this would be one very popular shoppinglist with me personally. 🙂

Btw, I also love to do all the first tiers for all the first generation Legendaries; I like content that takes me all over the place and lets me enjoy  the world.

Returning player here.

Played GW2 since launch, and had a long break, but I am returning now after a couple of years since we'll be seeing the Cantha expansion next year.

Upon launch Dynamic events were a lot of fun, and I'd argue that they still are, but there were a lot of complaints back in the day that they weren't comprehensive enough and lacked consequence. This was not something that was ever addressed nor did dynamic events ever receive much, if any, love from the devs.

Fast-forward; I return to the game to see that the skill system is very different, and of course we now have elite specs. However from rolling a new alt, I see the same ol' dynamic events and hearts, with no changes or additions. I think this is a real shame really.

Dynamic events could be so much more, they could be map-wide, if not cross-map wide, they could have consequences on npc's and dungeons. It is a They could have NPC's actually "sleep" during night, and have different npc's out and about activating different dynamic events & hearts altogether.

I lament at this, since I think that the dynamic event system is great, but completely underutilized, it is a PVE tool that could add a ton to RP and just PVE activities in general. It doesn't help that most of the gear/items gained are either RNG bags, or completely useless, in this respect OG-GW had cool loot drops, something that could also be added to dynamic events.

I'm hoping that we'll see this more used in the new expansion, I hope that with Luxon vs Kurzick we'll see dynamic events that will turn zones into temporary pvp zones in the fight for supremacy.

Anyhow rant over!

Sounds like you just want meta events.

I know it’s been said, but you will notice a dramatic change in how DE’s are used. Not everywhere, but Heart of Thorns is big on little events adding up to big chains and map wide stories. Later seasons mix it up a bit more, but they are def used with more purpose whilst still keeping many of the little events crucial to the system.

Verdant Brink, Drizzlewood Coast, Dragonstand, Dragonfall are significant examples. Path of Fire let go of these, but they learnt that lesson for later.

You can see the prototypes in Orr where they were originally interlinked (an idea scrapped when mega servers took over and now impossible) and things changed as event chains progressed. HoT took it to the next level

1) Keep pvp out of pve.

2) Cross-map dynamic events would be a disaster and a waste of dev time. It seems like you want them to be basically like world bosses in the sense that lots of people would be attracted to them, but what for? The rewards are barely worth the participation anyway- most people do them for the exp to level a toon or for some collection item progress.

Not even going to touch point 1.

Point 2, however, Orr used to work that way.  Basically, all the balthazar statues throughout Orr would shut off when players captured the Temple of Balthazar, etc, etc.  Then the megaserver happened and  compromises had to be made, so now it's just in general temples in the area shut off nearby statues instead of the specific god they're tied to.

Yes i remember this but it's not what the OP is looking for, if i understand correctly. I believe he's looking for a linked chain of events which cross maps, not an event which has effects in other maps. For example, when you finish the event chain in Straits of Devastation, it would be cool if u entered Malchors' Leap to continue the chain all the way to retaking Arah but this doesn't happen. It was possible before megaservers but not anymore (assuming that servers can't be linked).

There was an event where you escorted pact troops from Fort trinity all the way through t o the gates of arah.  It was really buggy  even before the megaserver and would  consistently stall.

You are correct that is what I was looking for, some cause and effect across maps as well. I think a lot of people are overthinking the "blocked content" that this would cause temporarily. That being said, yes the server is probably the biggest issue, and something that never crossed my mind until just now, good point, and probably enough to never ever make this a reality.

Yeah, that's what the Orr Temple Events were originally, as the status of each temple influenced things over all 3 Orr maps on the same server. And yes, megaserver is the primary reason why this was removed, and something like this is very unlikely to ever be reintroduced.

I haven't played HoT yet, so perhaps I should dive into that quite soon.

I had a feeling something was off about your complaints because many are addressed in expansions. You should find many of the things you are after there.
