Does the new Engineer spec mechanic was shown during today shing jea stream? [Spoilers?]

In the training area, one of the trainers isn't human.

It is a floating construct with not all its parts linked together (remind yao arm with different parts able to communicate without being linked?), it is named "Mech" and its way of speaking is kind of like an asura golem but more fluid.

That mech seems to have some skills, but the only shown here is ability to generate a jade force field.

Maybe reading to much into it, but I can perfectly see the engineer summon that mech as minion and order it to deploy its jade force field to defend or maybe support and offensive skills to complete that. Maybe engie could summon several of them?

Just a thought after today stream.

I really hope not, since this thing looks really bad... so if this is a teaser, it might indicate that Anet isn't even close to have the spec finished visually.

Unfortunately, this is quite possible, especially with our class. Scrapper has been the same, unfinished and but rushed job...

.... so basically you want a second holosmith?

If they went another direction with it, it could work.

Holosmith is fast glass cannon with a time limit.

Golem mode could slow, tanky and was throwing out so sustained AOE conditions (ideally including poison and burning) or AOE buffs and heals (could make for good trait choices)

It could even end up as a reverse Holo with high DPS builds outside Golem mode to spikes and then retreating back got Golem mode for protection.

Slow tanky gameplay could work well if Turrets too if they ever get round to fixing them.

It just seems really boring and uncreative to use a transformation mechanic 2 times in a row for our elite specs. For necromancer, I get it, since the class is designed with transformations as the core mechanic (death shroud).

But we are not tied to transformations because of our core class mechanic. So I hope they come up with something actually new instead of "this is holosmith again, but with some other abilities"...

I wouldn't mind seeing this but I do agree with 2 times in a row and this only being the 3rd specialisation.

I don't really get the hate pets get myself so I'm hoping for a pet like Golem. If they throw in a F5 to climb inside I would be even happier though.

Were you not around when the original scrapper and their minion-gyros were a thing? The pathing was so terrible, using them felt aweful.

That's why I am personally not a fan of the idea. First our turrets got nerfed into nothingness, then we got gyros which were absolutely dysfunctional.... I don't trust anet to code minions anymore.

I wasn't, I didn't use scrapper until they changed them to wells but I can tell they were a very bad idea, especially with the fuel limits.

I would hope for more of something along the lines of Ranger Pets which work well enough for what that are meant to be.
Elementalist's Elementals work well with being ranged and not needing fast routing.

Necro minions and Mesmer clones work as meat shields but I don't see Engineers really wanting that.

I don't just want a clone of ranger pets but a single golem as pet that sensibly links in with the other Engineer traits and more of an AOE focus could give Engineers something new that other classes don't have.
They don't have to be something that can zip to the enemy and do fast spike damage to be useful.

I never really played Necro, but how good bad are their Minions  ?

They're okay. People still use one or 2 of them in PVP occasionally.

They don't give big DPS or anything major but they can act as a meat shield and help keep you alive a bit more.

They're good in PVE for being something you can just summon and leave there without having to keep pressing buttons if your looking for a more relaxed playstyle.

They are pretty good as they have controllable spells you can use. Anyone that just sets up minions and dont micromanage them is doing it wrong.

Please no minions pls no minions pls no minions. And it looks terrible tho. That blue doesnt fit at all to the overall game. Imagine a spec that produces lots of these blue golems running around in open world. Would look kinda terrible imo.

lol

Imagine a EoD Engies ditto on a sPvP node:
