Anybody else hate most of the new icons?!

Evening guys,

 

I'm fully prepared to be told it's just me here, but I can't see how other people don't seem to be calling out the spell icons looking like a completely different artist has done half of them?

 

By half, I mean if you look at Ranger, Ele and maybe Mesmer and Warrior, the new weapon skills and slot skills kinda look like they belong thematically with what we already have. Ish.

 

However, looking at the Rev for example...the whole water-colour art style has gone entirely. Or maybe it's the disparity in colours? Look at double sword on Willbender...the OH skills just don't seem like they fit the same art style as MH. Then of course we get to utility skills like the Necros vials. They just look very..basic? And the gun skills just don't seem dark and dingy enough like the rest of the weps... 

 

I suppose going back, even warrior stands out. Try equipping any MH wep with the new OH pistol, and look how more vibrant the pistol icons look in comparison (of course, I mean on a build editor for the time being).

 

I can't point my finger on what looks off about the majority, but there's something. Maybe it's slightly off colours, maybe it's that the backgrounds behind the icons are more "flat" and less keeping with the usual brush-stroke style of GW2, or maybe it's the icons are more generic and basic in detail. I can't tell, but it seems to bother me for some reason. 

 

From someone who won't play Mesmer because it's pink and therefore feels "off" with me being a guy, maybe I'm part of a small picky group of people... Any more like me out there?

Vindicator icons are awful, they don't fit Rev at all. Greatsword icons are too blue compared to the rest of the weapons and utility icons lack red and look like they belong to Warrior and Guardian. Sincerely hope they rework them or that Vind UI is gonna be an eyesore.

I kind of like the fact the new skills have different style a bit, it gives that ‘new’ feeling. One thing I can say though is that Harbinger skill icons (all of them) look very lazy and rushed.

Whats wrong with pink on men though? It doesn’t change a thing

Agree. Visuals in general have little impact on gameplay, however as much as I want to play GW1 for the lore, I can't because of the graphics... Seems you aren't stuck by that :)

 Yeah, breaks cohesion. I can understand the recycled moves due capturing new ones is very expensive (albeit is one of the reasons you do an expansion: you spent money adding new things to the game expecting gaining appeal and getting revenue), but the skill icons....   They cost 0. This is like when Games Workshop suddenly decided that mecha anime was cool and fit well in their dark grim universe and...   voila!  Habemus Tau!
