The not terrible class but also not okay

This class clearly needs some love, warriors gamers are a big part of the rpgs but it feels like the opposite in GW2, it's playable, not terrible, but also not good.

Just remember, we have the worst traitline in the game and our sustain is just bad without MMR, the masters of (outdated) weaponry, and a big etc.

One would think the simplest class of the game would be in the top 3 most played classes, if not the top 1. But in raid, open world, pvp and wvw, everywhere I go I see more engineers and elementalists than warriors.

So not love, but a restraining-order-type-of-obsession?

Just one year of Warrior being loved in equal amount to Necromancer and Guardian would be enough.

That one year with such care would probably fix most of Warrior's issues.

Since End of Dragons update started the Warrior just gets nerfed almost every update, some are hidden nerfs some are written in notes.

What annoyed me the most was the Bladesworn nerf...a nerf for something barely viable.

There were 2 great things which it seems that disappeared.

1)The 3 weapons: You had the gunsaber, after switching off the gunsaber you got 2 more weapons to use.Now only one and the gunsaber.

2)Defiance break nerf, the damage of the dragonslash remained but the defiance break it was high indeed then got nerfed with around 65% or more... while I have to sit idle 3 seconds...In PvE lets say a hard, very hard ok but in PvP? Anybody who can count without addons can dodge the Bladesworn attack with a finger ...it was really a must to nerf it to the ground?

Animations are somewhere between Meh and gross, the only good animation the whole profession have is the hundred blades from greatsword skill nr.2 the rest looks like a novice graphical designer did his rushed homework.

...and we have not talked about utility and the single working build aka Bannerslave

The whole warrior class closes near a bad joke and laughter,it would be nice from Anet if they put the development team responsible for warrior to work or hire some more competent people who can give some fresh air to the warrior.

Correct me if I am wrong

I mostly think people in the forum are way, waaay too dramatic and hyperbolic about it (as always), and that Warrior is on the weak side of things but still perfectly viable and fun to play.

  • I do wish Bladesworn either could have kept the third weapon or at least that the Gunsaber skills were a bit more varied (something on the Gunsaber (aside from Dragon Trigger) should at least have some CC, I think).
  • I do think Spellbreaker nerfs pretty much killed the "anti-support" role it had on WvW.
  • Berserker is mostly fine, though the burst option for the less used weapons could be improved to give us more options. It could also use more meaningful options in the traitline.
  • Banners are good utility that will always be useful.
  • Shouts are currently in a good place too.
  • We have the option to provide quite a lot of CC (harder with Bladesworn and the lack of weapon swap, though) with Mace/Mace, Mace/Shield or Hammer. Pretty low cooldown on high CC skills, also decent survivability with the Blocks.

My personal opinion is that Warrior needs some adjustments (especially on Spellbreaker and Bladesworn), but I do get tired from seeing all the exaggeration on those boards. It's still my favorite class the game on and by a decent margin, after all.

Berserker needs its burst available outside of the berserk mode. Other professions (and even the other Warrior specializations) are allowed to have multiple F-abilities, so Berserker should have them, too.

We don't know if Banners will remain useful after the June patch. If Arenanet removes the unique effects, there's a high chance for banners - and thus Warrior's only real role in organized group play - to become irrelevant.

Shouts being the only thing on Warrior in a "good place" (and that's only on Junksworn) is a problem by itself. Shout healer is not what most Warrior mains to see buffed. They want to play a heavy hitter that is semi-decent at soaked damage. They don't want to be a weird point-blank AoE healer.

You are free to feel tired of what you consider as exaggerated, but the amount and the level of complaints just show how bad Warrior's current state is.

Just imagining the timeline where they nerf our ability to heal on might application now.

@Lan Deathrider.5910 I am actually confused that warrior is still somehow good. I mean if you read the whole febr 2020 Patch you will notice this:

Heal options: They nerfed every Single heal skill for every class. Gues what most heal skills from other classes where just that one heal skill that seen a 33% nerf. Now for warrior their heal  becomes by the  normal heal (heal Signet/mending) and a trait/ trait comb (might makes right+tether might share/ adrenalin heal+ Heal signet). Well they nerfed Heal Signet for 33% and adrenalin heal for 33% (Overall it would be a total of 66% nerf). They nerf Might made right back then for 33% and nerf spellbraker tether might from 16 Stacks might to 8 Stacks might (so Overall it would have been more a like also 66% nerf)

Damage options: They decided to nerf all weapon skills for about 33% (some skills like eviscerate got just a 50% nerf). Would be fair since all classes got this nerfs too. Only problem........ warriors Overall burst combs where Highly recomended from cc damage. And gues what they nerfed every cc skill down to 0,1 damage. So all in all for warriors damage options it Was more like a 77% nerf not 33%.

General nerfs: Also they just made one of the most used traitline back then called defensive near useless by made the endurepain and last standing traitskills up to 300 sconds CD.

Back to the Berserker changes: They just reworked it back then (dont know the exact date) and instead of make it somewhat enjoy able they decided to give it 2 debuffs just in one spec (-300 thougness/no access to burst skills outside of Berserker mode) that rework instantly onepatched Berserker complete out of pvp. Made it usefull in pve at least but even there the debuffs arent needed. Also why the heck do we got 2 of them this hard while other specs got like 0?

Spellbraker: well they nerfed it mutiple Times. And i gues this where somewhat needed nerfs. But now with the cc =0 damage nerf this spec feels more like you play pingball with them but dont deal any damage on them...... just a weird feeling for a 1v1/1vx specialty class.

EDIT: I would  not call warrior balanced i would call it more like underbalanced. The class that i see more is balanced would be Ranger. (Of course not its gs 4 skill that one got too many kitten just in one skill but.... )

Less buttons/simple does not always equate to easy or practical. In many cases, less options means the difficulty is increased.

Which is more simple? Cutting down a tree with a hatchet, or cutting down a tree with an array of power tools specifically designed for felling trees?

Which is easier/practical?

they should just remove the daze spam from full counter that's no fun and toxic

and actually make it does damage, so it's actually a full counter.

and maybe even make revenge counter act really like the revenge counter it is inspired from.

you take damage in a duration, the more damage you take, the higher your full counter does at the end.

Not sure why you are @'ing me in this one, I've been clear in my sentiment as of late that it is not fine. @Ellye.9123 was the one implying that here.

MMR was cut by half if I remember (to 65 HP), then bumped up (to 85 HP). But yeah, they nerfed MMR, and then nerf might generation, either would have been fine, but not both.

Yep, welcome to our damage angst. It is literally easier on any other class to do reliable sustain and burst damage.

2018-2019 ish. It was okay initially because Arc Divider and Gunflame had the damage to justify the 2 debuffs, but noobs can't handle kitting the glowing red warrior so it got nerfed. Also, welcome to my crusade against tradeoffs. Either they all get warrior espec level tradeoffs or none of us have to have them. Quoting Mai Trin here "No more half measures!"

It's "balanced" (dev's words not mine) but nothing else is, so thus it is not balanced it is instead held down and being strangled in the bathtub my either incompetence or maleficence (or both). But yes Ranger is probably the best tuned class atm. Neither OP or UP, and with one of the best weapon combos in the game (LB+GS).

arc divider doing "too much damage" was hot fixed in 2 weeks!!!! lol and berserker wasn't even good in pvp.

now berserker stats arc divider does less damage then marauder stats whirling wrath.

without calculating the fact that guardian can have 100% crit chance.

and now look how long other classes get "hotfixed".

the more i think about how anet treats warrior, the more ridiculous stuff i find out.

this is just unbelievable and unacceptable and incompetence at it's finest.

Yeah it's pretty dumb that I can get 9-10k on whirling wrath but only about 6k on arc divider.

Guardian's 100% crit chance is definitely part of the problem, but so is their ability to stack multiple damage mods...most/all of which are stronger AND easier to apply and maintain than Warrior's damage mods.

Consider Retribution (+10% when you have resolution) or Inspiring virtue (+10% after activating a virtue) to something like Leg Specialist, Cull the Weak, or Warrior's Sprint.  Lethal Tempo has a higher max (+25%) than Berserker's Power, and BP requires you to land bursts on your target in order to proc (not to mention giving up the sustain of MMR to take it).  Peak Performance is Warrior's only really good damage buff, and even that has been tuned down quite a bit.

Guardian is just.... So much better designed than warrior.

Why can't we have nice things? 😓

Explain. I'd like to have a conversation about why you think berserker is mostly fine.

What wouldn't it be?

  • It deals acceptably high DPS with a simple rotation (it's high APM, but it isn't complex).
  • It provides desirable support for parties with Banners.
  • It can easily bring a good amount of CC without compromising itself.
  • Can be played as either Power or Condition.

Sure, Berserker might not be the hottest thing in the world, but I think "mostly fine" is an apt descriptor for it currently.

Like I said previously, I do wish we had more viable options for weapon choices and trait choices, because there isn't much variety on that for this spec. But what we do have works well enough that you can do any content while being a desirable class to have.

What's the issue with Berserker that would make it less than "mostly fine"?

Hey buddy, a lot of this discussion is focused on PvP/WvW not PvE. In Competitive play Berserker is very much not in a good spot.

In PvE you are right in that it has high DPS, but not the highest, with a simple rotation.
Banners is desirable, but it is not needed outside of speed runs. It is lazy support that is not fun to play, and keeps proper support builds from flourishing on warrior. We call it Banner Slave for a reason.
Headbutt+Wildblow is great breakbar damage, but they stink in competitive play. Headbutt is still versatile mind you, but the damage is not there.

In competitive it is not fine, as it is easily kited, has very neutered damage now, takes increased damage, and losses out on most of the traitline when not in Berserk Mode.

Okay, I'm glad I asked for clarification.

I'll agree with you it's fine in pve. It's PvP / WvW that I base my opinions of it around since you kind of have to try to not be serviceable in pve, and it isn't doing so hot on either of those last two sections.

@Lan Deathrider.5910 idk why @  you tho ^^. Maybe i was a bit frustraded about peoples that telling me i shouldnt cry about my main class i played since Release is in this mutch Bader place then most other classes since 2 years straigth now. And i should eather leave gw2 or play something Else...... All i want is eather a balanced Match ub (what will never happen cause warr is too ezy at it seems to balanced while the others arent ) or simply buff the class final to reach at least a bit balance of the rest of the classes.

Its okay. Play it anyway. WvW has some more options open to you, run with a roaming guild and enjoy the fights. We'll see if Anet notices the angst of the warrior forums come June 28th.
