Skyscale Requirements is ludicrous [Merged]

I never used the Obelisk Shard for that. Does it share its timer with the regular HP's Quartz charging?

Yeah, it's just another "place of power"/"used up hero challenge" -if you convert quartz crystals in open world, you won't be able to do it in home instance (and vice-versa, if you do it in your home instance, you won't be able to do it in OW HP).

I think the problem with the Skyscale is that it's not just a QoL mount, it has become largely essential for keeping up with other players in all sorts of group / squad content, especially map metas. So newer or some returning players will find on hitting 80 that it's rather a struggle to try and keep up via other mounts and methods. Mount diversity is one of the big gameplay strengths of GW2, but it also has downsides because of how it divides players and can lock them out of certain content.

I'm not sure if this is true. Dragonfall, the map where you get the Skyscale from, has the bounty champions after the main meta. I'm usually hard pressed to keep up with my Skyscale because people have gotten better at using the Griffon.

Personally I believe that if you're adept at using the other mounts, you can win against the skyscale. Not sure if it's 100% but all the examples I can think of just require knowledge of the map and when to use which mount.

Skyscale is just easier to use in the sense that you can pretty much do all things without dismounting but at a reduced speed compared to the specialist mounts.

It's not really a requirement if a player has the other mounts.  Both the jackal, raptor, and beetle are faster on land with the griffon being faster in air.  If going across water, the skimmer is faster and the springer can climb faster if there are ledges.  It's a QoL mount.

I 100% agree it isn't a requirement. And mostly agree with the mount assessments. Though the flat speed of the jackal and raptor are a bit faster, I find the Skyscale to be right about as fast when accounting for it more easily going over/passed obstacles in practice. And the Springer is only faster at climbing if there are clear ledges to land on. In all other cases the Skyscale is better at climbing. Obviously this is just my personal experience. YMMV

all the whining and fanboyism. I don't like either, so I wanted to do it to see for myself. So far, the thing isn't anywhere near the "legendary" mount that fanboys say nor unobtainable as the whiners say, but yeah, the collection is far too punishing for what little you get

Speedrun from "whiner" (by your own words) to "fanboy" (also), any %? 😄

not a fanboy. The collection is still beyond stupid and should be removed.

the thing can't beat the other mounts on their own game but for a lazy ride is ok, specially once you start to master it (the beetle was hard to master too but once you learn how to ride it is woo-hoo).

If it counts for anything: at first I didn't see the big deal. But now I use it every day. Some mounts do very specific things better. But the Skyscale is generally good at everything.

Except going very very fast on a straight line and hitting every single wall and obstacle and getting stuck when there is a slightest bend, like roller beetle!

Why wouldn't you avoid the obstacles? You would with any other mounts. What's so different about Skyscale that you would blindly ram into them? With practice, like everything else, you won't even hit anything if you give it enough clearance. Been a long time since I'd experienced the dreaded wall-cling when flying to a destination.

Seems in line with what was being said about it, including "you don't need it -if you don't want to go for it, you're fine with using other mounts according to your needs". It's still the most versatile, while not the best at everything separately. Legendary gear also doesn't outperform ascended one and I'd say sometimes (for example when you frequently swap out weapons within the same build), using ascended gear can be better than using legendary one. Doesn't make legendaries any less legendary. Some part of the beauty of gw2 mounts is that they're all useful in their own ways, if we suddenly had one mount trampling anything else in every situation, it would be rather stupid to me.

Disagreed about the collection. 😉

I'm an extremely casual player because of a stroke I had in 2006 so I'm very much not suited for difficult content because I still have mobility issues on my right side. It seems like a ridiculous amount of stuff to do but if you separate it into chunks it's not so bad. I chipped away at the scavenger hunts every day and stockpiled map currency when I got bored. If there was a champ or a group of mobs I couldn't kill, I waited around until someone came by didn't take long because lots of people are working on it too. Granted it is a giant pain in the kitten but it took me about a month taking it slowly, about 2 hours a day and more on the weekend. It's worth it in the end!
