Rumor: Terminating Accounts for Reporting Wall Runners?

Recommended Posts

ANET,

Is this true? There is a warning in the reporting section in game when you report a player. Some people are saying that ANET is going to start terminating the accounts of people who report players like wall runners in EBG. Can you confirm or deny such a policy?

  • Abuse of the report tool can lead to the termination of your account. It should not be used as a weapon, but a tool to maintain the integrity of the game and community.
  • Abusing the Customer Support ticketing system, including spamming or harassment of CS agents, may result in the suspension, or termination, of your ability to create and submit further tickets.

It sounds like someone's bad interpretation of this policy.  You can get suspended for abuse of the reporting tool.  If you're just mass reporting any player you see momentarily AFK, that could constitute abuse of the tool.  If you're reporting someone who has been wall running for over an hour, probably not abuse.

You are better off to create a ticket if you want to ask Anet this policy. As Chaba pointed out there has always been a policy that if you try reporting in bad faith you might face action yourself. So consider this, why would Anet terminate an account that is active enough to use a report feature since it means that the player is not wall running and therefore more likely to be using it's services?

It's a standard rule across many platforms to prohibit reporting people for frivolous reasons which wastes everyone time, as well as trying to mass report people others don't like.

There's a lot of vindictive and unhinged people on the internet. Some people may report others for killing them in game, or losing on their team. Seems to be common pvp streamer behavior.

If you report in good faith and aren't spamming reports just because you don't like them, there's no problem.

Bad use of the tool is mass reporting someone or promoting mass reporting for no other reason because he is defending against your ktrain for example (remember when RICE had turned eotm into a gold farming operation running all 3 sides and griefed verbally abused and got people who played normally banned by mass reporting them?).

Reporting the bot autorunning into a wall for a month straight and it is there just to hold the slot and feed information to the overlay of an opposite side player is proper use,but given that the report function is there just to give a sense of security and the only thing flagged is wrongtalk is meh.

Likely people that use wall running themselves are spreading this news to dissuade people from reporting them.

That was my initial thought too.  "someone's bad interpretation"

That's just to scare off people so they don't report and them getting caught less.

If you're really affraid use screenshots or video it so you have some extra proof. This is also probably has higher chance to report them if you make a ticket here
