  1. There is that saying "Play the game, not the UI". Seems Anet has changed their direction on that with fishing. To me, in all the games I've played, fishing was always meant to be a relaxing thing you did on the side. Waiting for a dungeon/raid? Waiting for friends to show up for a mission? Just want to chill for a bit? Whip out your fishing pole and relax. Seems Anet doesn't want that, and would rather us play our UI instead of the game now. So now we play minigames in our UI instead of looking at the animations and art that went into everything. This is the one game I've played where they made a simple thing like fishing more complex than it needed to be. It's not hard or anything, just an annoyance. I'd rather be looking at the game world, than playing minigames on my UI.
  2. Yeah sadly I'm going to have to agree. Compared to previous years, this was a rather large letdown. An upgraded Birthday Blaster in the form of a feast. A bag of spirit shards? I get these from just logging in. A title that already exists in the game (hope the raiders aren't upset about it). The only thing remotely decent was a new dye kit, though the dyes are pretty much exactly like dyes we already have. Oh and that we can only get once per year, so other 9th year characters won't get it. We have to wait a year to get another. So 5 more years just to get the full set. Talk about major time-gating (on a birthday gift at that too). In previous years we got a whole new unique armor set, unique weapon skins (though we got a continuation of those again), a unique infusion, a unique chair (rock), unique backpacks, unique titles, even a unique finisher. As for the cake, it is literally just a redesigned Birthday Blaster. And it's only for level 80, which doesn't seem that great as most at level 80 are using Ascended food (which is better) or have food that is designed around their build already. From the upgraded Birthday Blaster, to a bag of spirit shards (really?), to an already existing title (again, really?), it seems like the absolute minimum amount of work was put into this birthday gift this year. I get they are working on EoD right now, but this is something a lot of people look forward to each year and to have barely any effort put into it was rather disheartening.
  3. Maybe it's from my time playing WoW, but fishing has always been a relaxing thing to do. Something to do during the wait of waiting for a raid team to fill out, or get players for your dungeon, or just chatting in map chat. Hang out, get some fish while chatting with others. It was never meant to be a grind or a requirement. Just something to do on the side for fun. If it was just a node, it would just be another resource to grind. With fishing, it's just something to take a break with or just chill. Toss on some tunes and kick back with a fishing pole. Get some fish, and hey, use them to cook something if ya wanted. But it's always been more about the relaxing experience than about farming a new resource.
  4. I think I got into this a LONG time ago when it was first brought up, but I honestly just want fishing to be simple. Nothing complex or convoluted. Don't make it a grind or a new mastery or any of that. Keep it simple. Equip a fishing pole, now you get a cast skill. Use "cast" to throw your lure into any body of water. Once you get a bite, skill changes to "reel in". Click "reel in" to get your fish. That's it. That's all it needs to be. As simple as gathering herbs, mining ore, or chopping wood. It's a gathering ability for cooking. Don't overcomplicate it. Fishing is meant to be a relaxing activity. We don't need a new craft to level, or mastery to earn, or something to level up, just equip a fishing pole, and go relax and fish.
  5. Much prefer it to be armor skins than an outfit (even though knowing Anet, it would be an outfit cause they don't like making armor skins(chest and legs)). Only reason is cause I have sunglasses and sandals that I want to wear with it. If it's an outfit, I can't wear those with it.
  6. Yeah this is a little disheartening. They stopped doing armor sets in the gem store and told us all future armor sets will be earnable in game and only outfits would be in the gem store. Now it looks like they went back on their word and are releasing an armor set in the gem store again after saying they wouldn't. So we can't earn this set in game like they said we would be able to, we have to use gems for it now. I don't care about armor sets being in the gem store (I own most of them already). The problem is Anet going back on their word after telling us armor sets won't be in the gem store anymore. It just puts a sour note on the whole thing that Anet would do that after saying they wouldn't anymore.
  7. Well they did say "You can't teach an old dog new tricks...", so I'm going to speculate that it's something to do with the Jackal, since it's the only dog-like mount. Though, I hope it is only cosmetic as that would upset a lot of people if our 8th Anniversary gift gave us an advantage over others with the new mount skill. I could just see the forums raging now if the skill gives us an advantage, with everyone complaining that they are not 8 years old yet and it is unfair.
  8. Random is random. Whether you spend 60 or 6, it's still a random chance. I got it with 2 keys (I had 5 keys on me, but got it on the second one). Anet loves their "sucker" boxes though. Get people to gamble away hundreds of dollars for that chance at a fancy new skin. Greed always triumphs accessibility. Why let people buy it for 500 gems (the current price of a cape) in the gem store when they can make you spend thousands of gems for it in a gamble box? Don't expect it to change.
  9. I mean, yeah. It is. It takes time (A LOT of time), but it is completely possible. Plenty of companies have done it before, and still do it. In order to get with the times, you got to upgrade. So, i guess you would be perfectly fine with them dropping most of the work they still do for GW2 for 2-4 years, so they could work on that new engine?Anet has already said they have different teams for different things. Not everyone is going to go hands-on for a new engine. The content will still come while another team works on upgrading. This is how all companies work. You assign different groups to different projects.
  10. I mean, yeah. It is. It takes time (A LOT of time), but it is completely possible. Plenty of companies have done it before, and still do it. In order to get with the times, you got to upgrade. @OP, why turn my quote into a new thread when you posted the same exact response in the other thread already? Not necessary when we already have an existing discussion going on.
  11. Thieves are not Rogues in the traditional sense that we are used to. This isn't Skyrim or D&D, it's GW2. Thieves in GW2 are more akin to Assassins than traditional Rogues. In fact, the whole Thief profession came from the Assassin profession in GW1. It's the same thing, they just called them Thieves instead of Assassins. Thus why the Mesmer is more likely to get a Bard E-spec rather than a Thief. Even the reveal of the Mesmer was a Bard illusion (The Minstrel) before it shattered and revealed the Mesmer. As was mentioned before, their underwater spell effects are already music notes (can be reused as the attack notes for a Bard E-spec). It just seems more fitting for the Mesmer than Thief (since Thieves are Assassins, not traditional Rogues).
  12. There was this one MMO I played a long time back called Forsaken World, that had a Bard class. I loved the way that played and how it was designed. Always wanted a class like that in other games, so yeah. I'm all up for a Bard class (or elite spec whatever). Though I think instead of Horn, being allowed to use our Musical Instruments as weapons would be better. Like playing the Harp or Lute would feel more bardic to me.
  13. None of that would "fix" GW2. That would just add to the problems of the game. The only way to fix GW2, is get a new engine. GW2 is running off a modified version of the GW1 engine. Needless to say, the engine can't handle GW2. They need to make the game more stable before anything else in order to fix it. Optimization issues have been a problem with this game since forever. And every time they add more and more content, it just drops the stability even more. Without a proper engine update, the game is going to destroy itself due to being overloaded and the current engine not being able to handle it.
  14. You're not the commander anymore. You left that role a long time ago. You are a member of your guild now, Dragon's Watch (and partly Destiny's Edge). NPCs only refer to you as commander still because it is familiar and people know you as that name. As for the bossing around stuff, you're not the leader of your guild, you're a member. You all give your input on what to do. You don't tell them what to do, you work together to find solutions. Just because your past isn't constantly brought into the story doesn't make it not relevant anymore. It's your story still. My long lost sister who I thought was dead joined the Pact (you actually see this n your personal story later on). The team you decide to help (Skritt, Quaggan, Ogres, etc), help you out in Orr as well. You run into several characters from your early personal story in the DLC as well. The "commander" has lived a very exciting life if you look at all the things they have accomplished in so little time. What I'd honestly like to see, is in Cantha, if Humans picked Canthan for their heritage, I want to see it mean something when they go to Cantha. Instead of visiting a new land, it should be returning home (in the dead sister story, you get to choose your heritage). I hope they do that for Humans, like all the unique stuff Sylvari got in HoT.
  15. so... what about the people from countries where homosexuality is as good as outlawed or even a capital offense? With a culture that echos those legal sentiments? Why cater to less than 1% of the population if you could lose a vast percentage of your player base because suddenly your game is deemed 'homosexual propaganda' and banned? At the moment a player with a certain mindset can easily ignore non-heterosexual tones in the game. But if you force it on them, do you really think that would do any good? Since when did annoying people ever helped changing their minds? What about the people who just do not care whatever you identify as and like to do with your partner(s)? Who think (like I do) that everything that consenting adults do with each other is their problem and their problem only. It does not matter to anyone else. But still do not push it in my face? I do not care if you are a homosexual furry. Or a heterosexual swinger. Or a omnisexual flower sniffer. Or agender asexual. Just do not tell me about it. I do not need to know it. If I like you, it does not matter. If I don't like you, it won't change anything. There are things people like me just do not care about and do not want to know. For me, sexual preferences are like skin colours: I DO NOT CARE. If you are a decent person that I find likable, I like you. No matter what colour you are or what kind of orientation you have. If I can't stand you, it does not matter what colour you are, what kind of orientation you have. Won't change a thing. I do not need to know and I prefer not knowing. Unless we are CLOSE PERSONAL friends. In that case I would like to know - just to make sure I do buy a fitting birthday present and maybe be able to greet your partner accordingly. In fact, I know a couple of homosexuals, gays and lesbians. When I found out, usually because they introduced me to their partner, did it change anything? Not for me. Glad you are happy. You make a cute couple. So what film are we watching tonight? In all honesty, I think that is what we should strive for. People not caring because it does not matter. Also, if you allow pride flags for homosexuality (btw, do we talk about 'mainstream' or bears here?), nonbinary, transgender, genderqueer etc pp, shouldn't you also allow pride flags for sex workers? heterosexuals? People who do not have a tumblr account? Oh and how about racial pride flags. I am sure that would be a GREAT IDEA. Really. What could go wrong? Pride flags in games are a horrific can of worms. Please do not open it. Seriously, chill out. If you haven't noticed, GW2 already has several references to the LGBT+ community as it is. And they are all in game for your viewing pleasure. From gay couples, to lesbian couples, to transgenders, etc etc. It's already in the game. I'm pretty sure a rainbow cape is the least of your worries. Instead of turning this thread into an "agenda" debate and who is offended by what, let's stay on topic and keep it about GW2.
  16. How about everyone just shut up and we stay on topic? Yeah, that sounds like a swell idea. OP, your best option is to work with the dyes. I see plenty of people around that dye their armor and capes already in pride colors. They look like walking rainbows, but it works lol. Don't give up hope on a pride cape though, as Anet is pretty pride heavy and it could eventually make it into the game if past additions are anything to go off of.
  17. @SummerRayne.4672 I think like @"Fueki.4753" said, it's more than just a bra due to the extra stuff added to it. I have a feeling they are looking for something more akin to a Red Sonya look (chainmail bikini), or just literally only a bra lol. Though I'm not sure about the reference to GW1, cause even GW1 didn't have straight bra armor. It always had something attached. Like Elite Gladiator for Warrior, Elite Druid for Ranger, and some others, but again, they always had something attached to them. Monks and Necromancers had just only a bra, but it always came with tattoos as well. And of course Ritualist, but like above, they always had more attached to them. So not sure were the "only bra" armor is in GW1 that they are referencing.
  18. Never said they are trying to be just like those games, just that they are on the same level as them (expected quality). We should expect the same work and quality that those games put out, from GW2, as it claims to be on par with them. Regardless of their business model, the quality should be up there like other AAA MMOs. Otherwise GW2 falls into the category of F2P grinders (which is what GW2 has become). Getting back on topic, there are plenty of other games that are not subscription based MMOs that have adapted higher DirectX. Even F2P MMOs have that option, along with many single player games. The point of the whole thread is, other companies have long since gotten with the times, yet Anet hasn't. They keep adding more and more onto an outdated engine that doesn't support it and it keeps degrading the game further and further with each release. They need to upgrade.
  19. All of those games have subscription models which probably bring in a lot more money which would allow those studios to have the resources available to make these kinds of changes. I really wish people would stop using these games as comparisons to GW2. Anet states that GW2 is a AAA MMO like those games. So making comparisons to those games is perfectly fine, since Anet claims GW2 is on par with them.
  20. Where did you find the bear armor? Cause I'm having no luck finding it. Checked achievements and vendors and didn't see it anywhere. I think it drops in the strike mission. At least as I was checking achieves ... I believe I saw it as a reward chest for doing the strike. An achieve reward, that is.Ugh... like the Raven. Was hoping Anet would of learned from the hate that received and not do it again. /sigh.
  21. Where did you find the bear armor? Cause I'm having no luck finding it. Checked achievements and vendors and didn't see it anywhere.
  22. Why all the unnecessary stuff? Just make it simple fishing like in WoW or something. Get a fishing pole, equip it, get a new skill to cast, click on the bobber, get a fish. Use fish in cooking. Different fish drop in different zones. Doesn't need to be anything more than that. Fishing is meant to be a relaxing thing to do, let's not over complicate it. Don't monetize it or make it a chore or use it for a new reward system or make it a whole new crafting discipline. Just make it a simple new feature added to the game. Gives you something to do while you wait for that group, or waiting on friends, or just hanging out engaging in chat. Heck if you want, make the fish Ascended or something (but not Account/Soulbound) so Chefs have a new Ascended recipe to craft that doesn't require seed planting/harvesting. But let's leave fishing as a simple activity itself.
  23. Eh, they force you into your underwear when you put on diving goggles. Also when you run around on the beach of Southsun, it forces you into your trolleys as well (not to mention the npcs in their drawers). Whenever you preview armor that isn't for your profession, it puts you in your pantaloons as well. They have a button in character creation to strip to your smalls. There is several armors that show your intimates as well, even some that show more than that. So I doubt it has anything to do with age rating. If that was the case, they wouldn't even have undies and just not allow you to remove your clothes/armor. Or every time you removed your gear, clothes would be under it. I believe it's simply they just don't want people running around in their knickers everywhere they go. Do you want to raid with someone who is just in their tighty whites? Or do a story with the main character in their briefs? It doesn't quite have the same emotional impact when you're standing there in your bloomers. I personally don't see an issue with hiding all slots (and having dyable unmentionables). I had an Assassin in GW1 named Bikini Bandita that only wore gloves, boots, and a mask. They were my Survivor character (was challenging myself). I have the same character in GW2 as well (they are also a Survivor, even though we don't have that in GW2). Point is, whether we can hide slots or not, we will find a way to run around in our underoos. Plus I always wanted a Conan style Barbarian. So I'm all for hiding all slots if we want. More customization is never a bad thing. And allowing us to dye our skivvies adds to that as well.
  24. Except we have received Masteries in Living World episodes, so I wouldn't count those as "expansion only content". Same with new maps and QoL updates (Build Templates). These are things we have received in Living World episodes and basic updates. They aren't expansion style content. Expansion style content would be new Elite Specs, a new World, new Profession/Race, a bunch of new armors, several new maps at once, a completely new feature (like Mounts and Gliding), etc. That is expansion style content. What we are getting now is your basic Living World content that we have always got with Living World. All the content so far is the same stuff just repeated as with every other Living World episode we have received. A new map with the new episode, a new Mastery to go with that new map, and a piece of the story (which was very short). Build Templates are just a QoL feature that we get ever so often, not expansion worthy. So far this "saga" has just been another Living World season, not an expansion.
  25. This is no where near the same thing. This is a horrible analogy. Build Templates didn't even exist in GW2. You can't "steal" something that never existed. A better analogy would be, there was no such thing as cable in existence. So we found a way to watch multiple channels on our own for free. Then the birth of cable appears, and makes it illegal to use any other method besides theirs, and you have to pay for it now. It is, but ok. Here's a more genre-specific, but identical analogy: Busted hackers:"Please let me keep the cheats I installed"Again, terrible analogy. There was no cheating/hacking involved. It used the API provided by Anet. No cheats, no hacks. It was an addon, which Anet allows. You're trying to make ArcDPS sound like an illegal third-party program that cheaters/hackers use. Which it wasn't at all. There was no cheating, no hacking, no stealing, etc. They used the addon API to make a feature that Anet didn't have. Anet decided they wanted to profit from said feature and make it themselves, so they shut down ArcDPS so people would have to use Anet's feature instead of ArcDPS', making people pay for what they already had for free. Stop trying to act like it was cheating/hacking/stealing. It was a perfectly legal addon that anyone was allowed to use.
