  1. Early on with this game I made the mistake of placing mastery points in the fractal category, certain that there would be enough eventually for however I played. That proved to be a mistake as I never play fractals and am left without sufficient masteries for the legendaries category. It's gotten to the point where I just don't care. This is from the perspective of a player of 3 years who casually and exclusively plays open world pve, but managed to create 2 legendaries, obtain all mounts (skyscale/griffon), and fill out all other masteries but one in HoT. So, I agree with the OP. Tyria points should be revisited. I suspect that those who have an excess of Tyria masteries regularly play fractals or other modes of the game where they can be got. Maybe just add an option to move points (for Tyria only).
  2. This statement is just not true. Sure, you can hold a sword, but weaver is no longer any different from base elementalist. It's a game changer if you main weaver as I do. Whatever the solution, you clearly do not understand the problem.
  3. I'll just add to the sentiment of the poster who revived this thread. I was saving up gold to buy gems for unbreakables until I saw another (recent) thread about how you have to swap between characters. I decided that they weren't worth it and now will eventually spend gems on something else. All of these utility items are about convenience of course, and that is one way Anet monetizes the game. That's legitimate. However, it's also legitimate to consider unbreakables to not be convenient enough to be worthwhile. There are a lot of apologists here for a utility that is a bit misleading (maybe innocently so) in it's description.
  4. My first and main character is elementalist and my second (and second most played) character is a mesmer. Elementalist is squishy, but that's not a big problem in GW2 if you enjoy the class. One thing I would consider is whether you prefer melee or ranged. I tend to prefer ranged and elementalist is disappointingly melee heavy while mesmer has more full-on ranged options. I still have more fun with elementalist because of the variety of spells vs. mesmer, but I do wish it was less of a melee class. If you have an 80 boost, try each at Silverwastes before deciding. Then just level up without it if you prefer.
  5. - I'm not a fan of maps so tied to the meta that you have difficulty even completing the story. -I find the maps that mainly exist for the meta have the least replay value for me, so I'll be revisiting this about as much as Drizzlewood. -Anet really needs to consider persistence of battery charges and jade tech buffs when entering/exiting instances in general. Likewise for the filter buff in the new map. It's one of the worst aspects of EOD. Overall, my reaction is 'meh,' since again I'm not a fan of meta focused maps. Unfortunately, that seems to be the direction the game is taking. Others enjoy this I am sure, and I don't begrudge them.
  6. Correction: I hadn't done the End of Dragons meta in quite some time because, well... you know. I did it today and could turn in that statuette for the week's completion, unlocking the vendor. So the issue is the UI not showing what's missing. You made the right assumption Spire, keep track of which ones you turn in and it should work. They do not have to be turned in all at once, but the interface will not show you which are missing. Also, bear in mind that they do not have to be all done in a single week. The week's submittal only counts when you turn in that last statuette.
  7. The problem seems to be with the UI not showing which items have been turned in and which are missing. They do not have to be turned in all at once, but you have to keep track of them yourself.
  8. It is broken. Do not bother with it if it's locked you out. I've been locked out for months and have multiple statuettes collecting dust.
  9. You'd think they would fix something like this, wouldn't you? A weekly turn-in for doing the metas of the most recent expansion. I have multiple statuettes just taking up bag space.
  10. I would be happy if they would prevent those buffs from being removed when you enter a pavilion. At least, that's what happens with Mistlock. They need to revise how you access and keep those buffs in general imo.
  11. Thanks for the correction. I guess I misunderstood. It's quite a loud glitch, so for some it must ruin immersion. I did not buy it (maybe it was included with the bundled game). Here's hoping they do fix it.
  12. It happens on mine. Mounting and dismounting. Glad they're fixing it!
  13. So hesitant to respond to this thread, but: I am about as casual a player as can be, mostly playing in the open world with whatever spec is most fun and never using a damage meter. While there are various collection achievements I have started then abandoned out of boredom or a sense that they are more trouble than they're worth, the skyscale was easy and fun. It takes relatively little patience and if you're new to the game as I was, the "return to" achievements virtually eliminate the currency grind if you just play the game. There's no shame in using online guides if you want to just walk through it. I don't understand all of the complaints. Do you want an option to purchase the other mounts as well, fully unlocked? Skyscale is not even required, but if you want it and the chain is too much for you maybe you don't enjoy the game.
  14. Thanks for the tips (Aliam, Labjax, Rogue)! It's been a while since attempting it and you've convinced me to try again. I'm familiar with which cc abilities I have for breaking bars and the specific tips should be helpful. Maybe I can convince a guildmate to join in (no such luck in the past as no one seems to enjoy it).
  15. This is the only part of the entire story offered in GW2 that I have not completed (not counting dungeons). I could never get a group for it, and it broke my "fun" bar trying to solo it. It needs nerfing. Yes, it does.
  16. Only if it's opt-in and can be completely turned off. One of the reasons I like GW2 is that it allows casual play for fun rather than min/maxing everything. I've nothing against raiders and others who enjoy constantly watching the numbers, but I left that playstyle some time ago. If a fun less powerful spell is good enough, I prefer it over a boring spell that gives bigger numbers. Remember, not everyone plays the game the same way you do. Nor are they required to.
  17. Yes, you can unequip and account trade everything. In fact, you are required to for the upgrade recipes.
  18. I'm here on the forum for lack of things to do in EoD. Currently, my progress is stalled at unlocking the turtle mastery track because of the strike mission. Everything else is maxed out and I don't enjoy fishing that much, so here I am. It's a lovely, fun but disappointing release. I'll end up returning to unfinished tasks in older content, which only emphasizes how little there is to do in EoD at least as a casual player like myself. Disconnecting the turtle mastery track from the strike mission would help.
  19. In "The Future in Jade," the instance first bugged out after the last power cell scan (nothing happened). So, I exited the game. During the second and third tries, I got disconnected at the same point with the 7:11:3:202:101 error. I haven't gotten disconnected playing EoD up until now.
  20. I'm hesitant to post this out of embarrassment, but hopefully it will help some other players. My issue turned out to be ZoneAlarm's Game Mode. Apparently, even if the firewall is disabled Game Mode will block installation if it is turned on. I've installed other software and games with no trouble, but GuildWars2 doesn't like it. (/sigh) So, if you use ZoneAlarm make certain Game Mode is turned off when installing. Turning the firewall off completely isn't even necessary. I'll update my support ticket with this info. Thanks everyone!
  21. I would strongly suggest making certain the game installs well for you before purchasing the expansion, whether it's an update or a new installation.
  22. Just commenting on casual vs. hardcore. I'm not even in the game, but on this general topic: I remember when I first started using damage meters and cookie cutter specs in my first mmo and how it decreased my enjoyment of the game. I was "better" at group play and it allowed me to raid, but this sort of focus made the game feel more like a chore. In GW2, I play extreme casual and have never used a damage meter nor do I raid. I personally find this 1000 times more enjoyable as a leisure activity. After all, it's all meaningless numbers that get adjusted in order to increase the players' sense of accomplishment (mmo design redux). For those who like raid level content, min-maxing and checking meters can be meaningless fun (nothing at all wrong with that), but for non-raiders it's just meaningless. Both types of players exist in GW2, and in most open world events we can all play together joyfully! Afterwards, you go raid and I'll pick some flowers. What's wrong with that?
  23. I pre-purchased it then got a refund, so I won't check either option. The refund was for technical issues, not the game experience. I can't even install it. (No suggestions please, that's been covered.) I'm counting on them fixing things eventually, but there is no guarantee on that with a problem that still isn't fully acknowledged.
  24. Thank you for the suggestion redfox. Update: I was granted a refund for EoD. The refund removed the expansion by invalidating the key for EoD, while leaving the rest of the game intact. Currently I can log in on my laptop with access to all pre-EoD, though I cannot play fully on that computer (performance is worse than before EoD). I'd encourage anyone to try the solutions posted in the forums as they seem to work for some. However, what I experienced was not resolved after multiple attempts. Tech support was very friendly and did what they could, but clearly there is a new issue with the installer. I resorted to a refund since there isn't even a mention of this being an issue that's being worked on, and the refund window is limited. Best of luck to those still trying to install this, and thanks to the forum members who are an example of how friendly and helpful this community is. Hope to see you in game eventually!
