Without espec you are going to lose most of your matches in pvp and encounters in wvw vs players with espec. This is fact. You can't get expansion thus especs with in game currency so you have to spend real money on it. If you're playing without expansions, you're playing a trial version of the game (unless you bought the game before HoT was released).The paid version of a game having advantages over a trial version is obviously not Pay2Win.I have 2 accounts. One has all expansions. Other i got before HoT came out and it doesn't have expansions - so yes, i have an account that is not f2p but also doesn't allow me to play especs (yes, it was my choice). I think i am very much qualified to judge whether this game is p2w or not given i get to experience "both worlds" on daily basis. Expansions which can be only bought with real money specifically give huge advantage in competitive environment and it is definition of pay to win. You don't buy content in pvp/wvw when you get expansion - new maps, LS, raids etc. don't matter there; but you get straight upgrade of the classes you play. Many don't remember (or don't want to remember or don't know) but Anet also nerfed core classes pre-HoT just to make especs and new class (rev) much more desirable. It was really cheap from them and still has bitter taste given how they keep nerfing core builds just so people are forced to play especs.

You can technically still win with core specs, you just have to play against bad players or become a really talented dueler that know all the mechanics and tricks of other specs you can't play as yourself.Still doesn't change the fact that especs give huge advanatge. If 2 players of same skill playing same class fight each other the one with espec will mostlikely win. It gets even worse when we talk about group fights. I play core on my alt account due to no xpac and espec on main account - the difference is huge. "In general a game is considered pay-to-win when a player can gain any gameplay advantage over their non-paying peers. " - Wiki. Especs just scream "advantage". The worst part, Anet did it on purpose so they can force players into buying xpac. Holosmith: "P2W REEEEEEEEEE!!!" Wait. You seriously compare one-trick pony to a spec that is generally way more viable in competitive environment? Didn't they nerf it?

  4. You ask this question in wrong section of the forums. Most people who read this section are PvE'ers - they don't "win" much really beside getting new content. Problem of p2w is in wvw and pvp - especs are straight upgrade to core in most cases which leads to even more imbalance since usually especs offer even more what class didn't have before which leads to never ending power creep.Then there is thing like food and buffs/gear that cannot be made or are hard to get without xpac.
  5. I present you a warrior main ^^ Honestly, what you described can be said about warrior lol. There is probably nothing more linear (and boring depending on taste) than core concept of a warrior - straight dish out and facetank damage. That is why warrior is also the most noob friendly class while any new players that picks a thief ends up here or in map chat asking for advice how not to get blown up in milliseconds and actually deal some kind of decent damage. Ah and that is why BS in raids called a jail - because barely anyone wants to play that boring crap. My credibility? I will roll with your example: my warrior was my first character, it is even older than my thief.
  6. You look at it from wrong side. Why are there not many players using core builds? Because core in most cases nearly unplayable when it comes in contact with especs. I play core and yes i have to be miles better than my enemies to make it somehow work (still doesn't in many cases). Core has its won flavor and fun to play. Why do you think majority enjoys playing espec? Many don't they just don't have a choice.
  7. there are not just f2p accounts, if you had account before xpacs came out and you didn't buy xpac, you have normal game just without new zones/specs. whole reason why i am against especs being straight upgrade is because it turned pvp into p2w. It is just wrong. Not to mention we wouldn't have such fiesta in pvp as we have it now. Before classes had certain roles now it got muddled a lot and i think pvp suffers from it.

The map was djins dominion, and i was fighting at the right point (which was close for our team) i tried to use the pillars there as much as possible but they were just not enough to force him to come to me. i guess just the build counters mine hard. Unfortunately i don't know what build he had exactly, i could see that he is deadeye with riffle. Generally yeah, you would be a sitting duck on point vs rifle thief. He may not come to you but he wants the point so you can abuse that - focus the damage there. If the point belong to enemy, i wouldn't fight for it as necro. Necro is a team fighter not a side noder, someone else on your team should be doing it tbh. If the point belongs to you, you just rotate between pillars and point. If he is off point, hug pillars, if he is on point, put pressure there. Try to fear him when he is revealed, shroud 5 also hits through walls(pillars) as far as i am aware. Don't use lich form vs them. People keep forgetting that conquest is not about kills really but about holding points. You don't have to kill the thief, you just need to force him off point. Thank you for the advices! The problem i have with this is it is killing me in 4 seconds if there is no pilar close to me even when i have almost full shroud. Generally to get high numbers with DJ DE needs malice. They can get malice with traits but most likely will still need to use skirmishing shot before that. Maybe make a DE yourself and try the main burst rotation on a golem (DE mark -> skirmishing shot x2 -> DJ) - it will help you to read animations better and know what to dodge.

You picked like worst time to join given that meta consists of 2.5 classes atm XD what is your favourite role to play in pvp? - Roamer (run around, decap points, steal beasts (all is vain), stagger enemies, create outnumbered situations, help teammates to kill enemies, rez someone who went down)why? - i find it boring to sit afk on point and brawl all day; i like fast paced combat <3and which class do you use with that role? - THIEF THIEF THIEF. Most hated class in game so turn chat off if you are going to play that.
  14. @OP: just as guards are bane of thieves so are thieves are bane of necros. It is not a match up you supposed to win easily (unless you are scourge and just soak all the damage up). Hug walls (and yes, every map/point has walls; if you have issues with it, tell us on what map), abuse shroud 5 and marks on their general location. Corrosive cloud might be an option if you see them on enemy team. If you have support on your team - HUG them. 3.3k -3.6k SS is not high depending on set up. Do you know what they run?

Ah here i am running around as dark murderous assassin errr teef feeling all evil about myself just to be reminded that i am savior of the world and a commander... especially when my character decides to spew some absurdly positive lines with happy british accent. Yikes. But guess due to optimization and problematic addressing (are you she, he , it????) they just stick to "commander". All and all, i don't mind. I would rather have Taimi and Brahm be finally gone from LS - they annoying the flying kitten out of me (yeah yeah the fans will murder me now). More Canach action plz.

I mean you also don't play every Fractal Daily, nor do you have to play through the entire Story for every new Story release either.More content releases just means more points for new players to jump into on a more equal footing, as well as more variety for existing groups, giving them a choice of what sets of Wings to clear on a weekly basis to reduce veteran burnout, without feeling like just missing X Wing. Having more content than one can reasonably all clear in one sitting could be oddly liberating in terms of not feeling like having to do it all, all the time, always the same.Sure there will be those super hardcore who want to clear everything every single week, but that's purely optional, and would further cater to the crowd which is currently asking for repeatable Raids without weekly cap, since Raiding is all they want to do. Imo more Raid releases a win, win, win. For more casual players wanting to jump in at opportune moments, Veterans doing weekly clears and wishing for more variety, and super hardcores only interested in Raids, wanting to do it all and needing just more. Nope, i disagree. I quit this game for few years. During that time wing 5,6,7 have been released. After i came back, despite me having plenty of LIs, geared characters and enough experience i had close to no chance to get into groups doing those wings outside of my guild/static simply because i couldn't show 50 dhuum KPs. If you miss launch of a wing you are pretty much screwed. I see nothing casual about it.Not to mention, that even if people don't require KPs from you they still require 500 Li or similar. Show me new player that has it. I still remember wing 4 release - it went exactly like this - 250LI or get out.And then we are again at KP problem of the high end content: community will always find ways to get KPs. You can join a guild but no guarantee that you will be taking into the raiding nor that you will actually down the bosses in those groups. You can forget pugs. You need KPs for static. Make own group? You probably won't down the boss. Only thing you can do is be a scumbag, make 100 dhuum KP group while not having it yourself and pretend you know everything. Once again, i don't see what is so casual about it. what you describe is like every static ever. I agree on repeatable raids - i think it would give more opportunity for newer players.

  20. You might be onto something here. The question is of course how can one make support/bunker killable without making them completely unviable. Maybe look at pressure they still manage to put out (cough scourge) and touch healing sources a bit. @all bunkers: don't kill me but you can't possibly enjoy 2 bunker guards +2 support scourge vs 2 bunker guards + 2support sourges all season O_O (yes, i had such matches).

I am on the fence as far as raids go: i can understand the "fun" of raiding as i am raiding myself every week so obviously more raids -> more to dohowever here is also the problem: MORE to do. 7 wings doesn't sound bad for players with speed clear static, it is a lot of people that have to pug due to various reasons. Another wing? On top of it? Oh man. What if you engage in more activity outside of raiding? Should raiding become full time job? Sounds extreme. Then gain, nobody forces you to do it. And nobody forces the company to invest time and a lot of money into creating content for a very very small player group.All and all i probably would vote for more strikes (more accessible for friends, casual players, guildmates etc.), fractals and DRM (however with less running around and more rewards please).

As thief i can't really afford to run zerker tbh hence why i am also not doing 7k backstabs (then again even with zerker i probably wouldn't be able to do it outside of one shot signet monster or something along those lines).You do know that dp thief runs zerker right? And that build has more mov engage disengage and cc and same or more dps than a zerker guard. When people complain of guard having no reliable damage is legit you have to waste 60-80% of your skills to try and one shot or drop them 70% of ther hp leaving you exposed to any sort of retaliation from your opponent. Again a good player can meke it work into plat but why run zerker guard when you have a much better kit on other prof for doing that role. You don't run zerker on thief unless you invest in survival somewhere else (especially given amount of condis flying around, ironically from guards as well). Guard can do it as well. Prove me wrong. As d/pi have 1!!! skill that can possibly drop enemy to around 50% their HP (if all stars align). That is, the rest is AA and HS (assuming i don't have to run) spam. Welcome to the world of damage dealer in the bunker meta. Ah, and while we are at it, show me rev build that runs zerker without investing into survival. You have bs hs shadow shot that hits like a truck sb 1 and 2 not to mention abuncance of cc skills that guard does not have, imNot stating that thief is broken op etc is just that compared to guard is a better option for roam dps at the moment.On the condi aspect they have practically the same condi clears on these two build radiant gs and dp thief. And for a reason thief was meta last few season and gs guard was not. Not counting the disgusting burn build that deserved the nerfs.Rev has power shiro so guard is trying to do the same role they do and they are simply better optionsAny buid that does not run atleast one defensive trait line will bot work.BS is very conditional ergo you have to work for high numbers on BS and blow some CDs/use resources AND position yourself right, most likely in the place where you can get one shot. Once again it does not do high numbers (at least if we take "get enemy to 30% of their Hp" as a bar) unless all stars align (25 stacks of invul from external sources, 25 stacks of might etc.) in current meta.HS does only somehow high damage when enemy is already short before dying. You have to get there first. And it is also melee, so once again, highly interruptible spell which puts you in bad position.If shadow shot, sb 1 and sb2 are that high damage (hits like a truck kek) then i really wonder what is pre-patch burn DH damage was.Guards have abundance of CC skills - they chose not to pick them. Same as i have to trade invul of basi for example. Or headshot for damage.You want to roam with a guard? Why do you assume that guard is a roamer class? Since when it has become a thing? Since guards have been spoiled by trapper rune? You know what the actual problem of "zerker" guard is? The other guards and scourge. They are too tanky so you can't do enough damage yet they put out enough damage ( at least scourge) to make guard look for better place.Once again, if other classes have to work for their damage then same should apply to guards. You can't just dish out massive damage (delete 70% of HP in one shot) and be beefy at the same time. Simple as it is.
