  1. Chef is the one thing I've considered taking since some of the buffs that comes with it is pretty nice. I need to check the recipes though and see if those requires mats I would have a hard time getting with my approach to the game. Those primers do however require the purchase of a home instance garden plot which you can only get on the gem store. A lot of buff food on the other hand is tradeable and can be gotten from the regular trading post. Don't get me wrong, I personally enjoy crafting and don't want to talk you out of it, but if there is one crafting profession that is a convoluted mess and will leave you pulling your hair out (and filling up your inventory) during leveling then chef is the one. Hopefully this will improve with the overhaul of that crafting profession they have hinted at, but until then I really can't recommend doing it unless you really enjoy crafting. Btw, the portable provisioner that you can unlock via wvw masteries also offers a selection of canned food that is usually 2nd best but more than good enough for most wvw purposes.
  2. I know the devs want people to complete the story and collection chain but how about some kind of work around for helping people get skyscales that involve a community effort to contribute towards them being easier to get somewhat like that recent mystic forge event. A group unlock for players who have PoF and LWS4. I got my skyscale probably a day after those who started on the day of the patch release however I wouldn't mind being helpful to others as part of a large group event. Maybe a large skyscale breeding effort to save the species. A group event called "Save the Skyscales!" that would go to building a safe rookery for them. The players would contribute materials such as wood and mithril also the players have to give up their skyscale for 24 hours towards the breeding effort. While this would certainly help those unable (for personal or technical reasons) to get past that collection step, it would at the same time take that step away from everybody else that hasn't gotten that far yet and make them unable to experience it. Instead of invalidating a part of the process for everyone that didn't rush it I'd rather see an individual solution like several mentioned in this thread. Allow the minigame to be played by a party rather than an individual. That way you'd be able to get past it with the help of others just like you can in most story instances in this game. And/or add a special, craftable, tradeable ball (like the treats for the jp part of the collection) as an alternative. I'm sure ANet will figure out a creative solution for this. The fact that they implemented something similar with the jp part of the collection makes me think that they are in fact considering disabilities and technical problems when designing their content.
  3. Crafting gives you easier access to top tier equipment (especially ascended weapons and armor), but with time you will get resources from playing wvw that will allow you to buy same tier equipment instead. Look out for grandmaster mark shards ... you can earn up to three shards per week in wvw, 10 shards give one mark, and a piece of acsended equipment costs 3-4 marks of the associated crafting discipline. A crafter can craft an unlimited amount of those shards (account bound) provided they have the necessary crafting materials, so crafting is simply a way to get around the timegate here.
  4. Not having much time to play doesn't mean being entitled to get all the content cut to cater the limited gametime I have. It means I get to pick and choose what is fun to me. It's an opportunity, but also a responsibility I have to myself to play only what I enjoy. This game is great in that it offers so many things to do, yet doesn't disadvantage me for choosing not to do a specific piece of content. I don't see any reason to be outraged for ANet to put out more content than I have time to consume. On the contrary, I love that they do this because the way they do it I do get to choose the best out of a large selection of stuff to do.
  5. Don't be so quick to discard Sohothin. The 4 and 5 skills on that sword especially do insane damage. There's a reason why doing the fight without the sword gets its own achievement. You should be able to switch between your own weapon skills and Sohothin during the fight. Make use of that ability.
  6. If you don't want to play the game but only to get the rewards that's what I'd call simplistic and lazy. The quest for the skyscale is a lot of things, but simplistic and lazy definitely not.
  7. If I want others to know of achievements I've reached I'll tell them. I'd rather not have the game decide for me what to broadcast and who to broadcast it to.
  8. So how does it come I'm already done with the 6 Dragonsblood weapons but don't even have the recipes to craft Astral weapons? You must've gotten extremely lucky with serpentite jewel drops if you've managed to craft 6 of those weapons in less than 5 days. That is, unless you circumvented the timegate on the dragonsblood weapons by collecting the daily resources beforehand.
  9. ANet will have the numbers to see how many people do get the mount and how many keep on playing. If they aren't satisfied they'll do content differerntly in the future. We will find out who the minority or majority in this case is simply by watching out for how future content will be delivered. No use to state imaginary minorities or majorities as fact until then.
  10. You might also want to check if anything else running on your computer might interfere. I know my daughter has similar problems whenever she's running both GW2 and the discord app on her potatoe pc.
  11. On the subject of powdered rose quarz: It does drop in generous amounts off the home instance node. The people I know that farm their home instance fairly regularly all have an overflow of quarz in their material storage by know. I know I have about five or six stellar weapons unlocked because I've crafted one each time my 2k material storage was full of the stuff, so the quarz for more astral weapons will accumulate all by itself over time, without any farming involved.
  12. To your other point: collections in this game are just a ui to deliver what quests/questgivers deliver in other games. Gorrik is your questgiver, he just tells you "find all the eggs", then afterwards tells you "hand out this medicine" and so on. Other games keep track of quests like that with a questlog (that more often or not doesn't give you any idea of how many follow-up parts the quest has). This game's quest log is the collections ui, for both main quests and subquests (nested collections). The skyscale collection/questline is involved. It's meant to be involved. It includes fetch quests (go get me this list of stuff, e.g. medicine ingredients), scavenger hunt type quests (finding eggs etc.), minigame quests (later on in the questline), resource-intensive quests (most notably the saddle) and so on. If you really want to play it (and not just treat it like a shopping list to get over with as quickly as possible by following some youtube or wiki guide) it'll give you hours of content to do. If you don't care about the questline and just want the rewards that's too bad, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it.
  13. Try getting a wide panel monitor. I normally game on a wide panel monitor and just got a gaming laptop. I'm generally not prone to motion sickness but I do get headaches from some visuals especially when the frame rate dips to low. I find that gaming on the more narrow laptop screen is not as enjoyable an experience especially on mounts or in more visually cluttered areas. I mainly got the laptop in case I need to go somewhere and still want to game. Thanks, but actually the smaller the screen, the lesser issues I have. My brain seems to work well figuring out it's just an animation as long as it's got enough visual anchors around that are immovable. It goes to extremes like me only being able to play minecraft in windowed mode, since fullscreen on my (decently large) monitor makes me sick within minutes. Somehow their movement doesn't mesh with the way my brain connects visuals to tactical input/controls used. In GW2 it really comes down to how directly or indirectly the mount responds to controls for me. Springer and warclaw are my go-to mounts as they tend to move pretty much directly the way I try to steer them (except when trying to get the springer somewhere where it bounces off edges all the time ... that's where Skyscale shines for me ;) ). Skimmer is pretty much a no-go, I even got sick once just trying to cross the Cursed Shore on water. Everything else is in-between.
  14. Sorry, but starting or getting back into an MMO at a season finale and expecting the season rewards to fall into your lap in a couple of casual gameplay hours is entitlement to its extreme. Of course they promote the mount: it's the ultimate reward of the season. And you know what? Everybody starting now or coming back after a long break can get that mount. All it takes is for them to play the game. ANet even gave away episode access as part of the promotion, but even if you missed that, it's not the end of the world. You can easily gather the resources to unlock those episodes while playing through the wealth of content this game offers, the very content that the veterans already played through and used to gather resources to make it easier for them to gain the season rewards. But those rewards aren't going anywhere. If you just start out today, you can gain them like everybody else. Just don't expect to get them without playing the game.
  15. Butter drops from a variety of containers that you can loot off of humanoid enemies in low and mid-level zones. It also has a chance to drop from the Box of Cooking Supplies that you get as map bonus reward from level 15-40 maps.
  16. https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/comment/937456#Comment_937456 Looks like the stat reset was kind of buggy, but ANet is aware of the issue.
  17. Springer -> Skyscale -> Raptor -> Jackal -> Griffon , ranked on the basis of making me least motion sick while using. Roller beetle and skimmer aren't on the list since I get sick pretty much the moment I mount them.
  18. Well, you need the mount before you get the trinket so you couldn't get the trinket regardless of the number of map currencies you need. someone on reddit has posted that you can get all the stuff without Skyscale. But maybe anet are going to fix this. Really? The collections require you to use the rifts, maybe they still channel if you're on other mounts or gliding?Only the visions of dragon can be done without the Skyscale. For the rift repair thingy you need the mount and mastery, there's no way around it.
