  1. He might not have been a good guy but his monologue implies he wasnt really a bad guy also. If im not mistaken he says its the torrment that made him "destroy". To be fair. Terms such as "good" and "bad" are rarely applicable and there is no reason to think of pre torrment Kralkkatorik in either black or white
  2. Fractals are not dungeons. They dont have even remotely same amount of lore. Little that they do is often chaotic and placed in different points in time. Also, dungeons had a good token system allowing you to collect some of the best do skins in the game. Third, pacing of dungeons and fractals is completely different. They arent played in the same way. And lot of that comes from lore aspects of the dungeons Thats why many people want dungeons back and why to many people dungeons and fractals dont feel like interchangable content. I honestly think that last boss encounter of LW should be a dungeon. Not just Kralkk here but also Joko and Caudecus for example. Although to be fair it would be kind of odd for immersion to have five commanders in the same room xD
  3. I have a feeling this is comes from PvP perspective. Symbols are a beast in pve and are unique and interesting skill type that makes the profession feel unique and provide much needed "class flavor". On top they do actually very good damage and provide boons And also, just because this game has strong mobility, it doesnt mean that everything needs to be mobile or fast paced. Rooting isnt really a problem on sword #3 because of its locking system and range. What it need is increase in its precision or to put it bluntly its "cone" needs to be narrowed
  4. eh, you misunderstood what was going on. Kralkatorik was not tormented by his dragonhood. He was tormented by the aspects of Zhaitan, Mordremoth and Balthazar which did not fit his own magical structure and caused internal problems. The way I understood it is that this torrment has been here longer than just that. If anything so long that IT is actually what we know as Kralkkatorik. I mean he told us that its the reason why he destroys...
  5. There is no bigger risk with short range weapons. And the "nature" of encounters forces you to be in melee range because of boonsharing and healing amyway. If you stay at range and dont move with other party members you are actually more likely to die since you will likely miss aegis, prot, regen, healing etc etc Also, sword three is a range attack
  6. Don't even try. People who write on these forums dislike the idea of vertical progressions and see no benefit in the idea of introducing new vertical progression. This topic has been recreated countless times before. The fact remains that people who play PvE in this game don't care about vertical progression. If they did they would stop ages ago as there is a bare minimum of vertical progression in this game. You are essentially trying to convince a salad bar that they should start offering cheeseburgers. But people who are coming to this bar simply don't care about cheeseburgers
  7. They speak from experience, as they almost destroyed Tyria and devasted a portion of the world the last time they fought. Kormir explains this in detail. This has nothing to do with cowardice, they just don't want to make matters worse. I hope they will return once the dragon issue has been resolved. If I remember correctly Kormir never said they had experience fighting with dragons. Or anything similar. Statements about previous fights referred to gods vs god war, not gods vs dragons. Her statements about dragons make her sound like gods don't think they can defeat them, or that they have any solution for them in mind. But not sure I would call it cowardice though Similar experience IS gods fighting on Tyria. The fight against Abaddon turned an ocean into a desert. It’s not a question of being unable to defeat the dragons, it’s a question of it being a lose-lose situation. If the gods fought the dragons and won the collateral would have destroyed the very people they would be protecting by fighting the dragons, making the victory moot, and if even one of them dies then Tyria is destroyed when their divine power is released on death and the dragons unable to consume it.No its because, as she says, Gods are weaker than dragons.(from wikia)"Kormir: Come and see for yourselves. Perhaps then you'll understand.Kormir: We, the gods, saw there could be no victory in our inevitable conflict with the Elder Dragons.Kormir: Waging war with them could only lead to the destruction of Tyria—and we, the Six, would be the match that would start the blaze.Kormir: And so, we chose to withdraw from Tyria altogether, and spare this world further calamity... Or rather, most of us chose to.Balthazar: Cowards. You may flee, but I will not. I do not avoid conflict... I am conflict.Balthazar: The Elder Dragons will die by my hands...and their power will become my power.Kormir: Balthazar was blinded by his pride. The dragons are beyond even the gods—a raw, primal force without equal." They speak from experience, as they almost destroyed Tyria and devasted a portion of the world the last time they fought. Kormir explains this in detail. This has nothing to do with cowardice, they just don't want to make matters worse. I hope they will return once the dragon issue has been resolved. If I remember correctly Kormir never said they had experience fighting with dragons. No, and that was not the point. The point was that God magic, used in any kind of fight against any adversary, has devestating powers for the human world. That's great, because so far it was shown that no God levels of powers were needed to deal with Elder Dragons. Also, if I recall correctly, human gods have helped humans in early days in their conflicts with other races, and have granted them for example powerful artifacts. So I'm not certain that god magic used in any shape or form is necessarily cataclysmic. Nor is it necessary that Gods help only via direct "hand-to-hand" combat against Elder Dragons In all of her statements Kormir quite clearly shows that it is only when Gods fight that the issue of cataclysm happens, or when a God is defeated/dies and their power is thrown into the world(from wikia)"Kormir: Have you not learned from the last time the gods stood against one of their own—against Abaddon?Kormir: Thirteen hundred years ago, Abaddon and his army of fanatics waged a war ranging across the shores and islands of the Crystal Sea.Kormir: The battle was so ferocious that the ocean boiled away, leaving behind the desert you see today.Kormir: When the gods finally struck down Abaddon, his fall warped and ravaged these lands, creating the Desolation." Absolutely nothing so far suggests that Gods can not help us in other ways. I like to think of them to be more complex divine beings that some generic dragon ball character that can only solve problems by fighting. Especially since most of our plans for dragons so far never required some God like levels of magical powers.

  9. Why, why is it so hard to understand that it's not about "dungeons" or "insert content name here" being central to what most of us consider to a proper MMO experience. The devs (and others in this thread) have pointed out that dungeons are an artifact of old code/tools, that it's a manpower allocation issue. The amount of work it would take to rework dungeons apparently takes away too much from the rest of the game, and I'm inclined to believe that as well. Yes, there might be some people returning to GW2 after being pulled from other projects. That still probably doesn't make dungeons worth the effort of renovating, there are myriad other issues to deal with instead of resurrecting old content they've already replaced. I assume most ppl in this thread know that developers arent working on dungeons due to different developer tool system that was used for dungeons. Just because i know why they aren't working on them doesn't mean that I can't have an opinion or preference that goes against it. Knowing why something isn't happening doesn't mean I have to personally agree with the status of the thing in question. You do know it is possible to have an opinion on something even though you are aware that due to technical difficulties it will most likely never happen? Not really what I was talking about. I was talking about game modes and rewards available to players. In that regard it is "give nothing or give something" Also, you are taking issue of company resources to extremes just to prove a point. It is possible that multiple questions and choices are present in the same situation. Not sure how did you reach a conclusion that choice of allocations of resource must excludes choice of development of content. The two can go hand in hand perfectly You should re-read what I wrote. I never raised a complaint against any development idea or any possible alternative. Just because my opinions differ from yours doesn't mean I am presenting a complain. (You gave an example of people complaining about gear, which I said isn't necessarily a legitimate complain)
  10. Other classes can also do full power zerker damage and still have bigger HP. For example, power chronomancer does great dps, has better active defenses and has bigger HP.
  11. That is one big hypothetical situation you placed there. Nobody even mentioned rewards and reward systemOh, so you intend to introduce challenge mode whose rewards are the same as normal mode? Good luck then. so it seems odd to imply these would be a problem for people who do not do the content anyway. If you haven't noticed, Envoy armor is a problem primarily for the people that do not raid. Those that do raid generally see no problem with it (for obvious reasons - it's not a problem to them). Also, nothing is added in the "basic mode" anyway so challenge mode getting new stuff is not having any impact for people who would do standard runs in the first placeThe whole basis of this talk is revitalization of dugneons. I'd assume it would require adding stuff to basic mode as well. Also, see above. BTW: In general, i'm all for "revitalizing" dungeons and making them more alive. Personally, i always vastly preferred them to fractals. I just don't think that introducing more challenge to them is a good idea - for people that would like that, we already have raids. So its better to have system that gives nothing to nobody than a system that gives something to someone? Dont really understand why should design philosophy revolve around those who do not do the content, especially since it doesn't change anything for them. There will always be people complaining about something but not all complains are legitimate and not all complains are valid. There is no reason why Anet should pander to people that hold the game back because they dont want to do content.

  13. Because of what they could have done in its place. Look at those two cancelled side projects where those entire teams could have instead focused on adding more content to the game. But updated/new dungeon is that "what they could've done". Dungeones are the backbone of PvE in any MMO game. Saying that they should be doing something else instead of them makes no sense if they are broken/abandoned. Other games have no problems doing both dungeons and these hypothetical other things. This game is the odd one out. Dungeons are the content they could've been doing and the game would be better off in the long run. Also, these teams were doing on other non-GW2 projects. Those two teams could've contributed to anything GW2 related, and that also includes dungeons
  14. Out of curiosity. Why are some people against challange mode. Something completely facultative. Why are some people against something that has no impact on them but might make game enjoyable for others?
  15. I would honestly prefer a sort of "generation two dungeons". But i guess new and updated old dungeons are second best thing
  16. Care to present some reasoning for both of those claims? How is Anet moving away from % buffs? Even on guardian they are all still mandatory traits. And I don't understand why would a group support version of it be a bad thing if we are looking into how to improve position of core guardian
  17. Percentage based buffs are better because of stacking. Increase in might regeneration would not change core guard position in neither pvp or pve. 25 might is already easy to get in pve so giving it to guardian would not make it a consequential choice in group composition, especially since ri would only give it to guardian. For pvp it would be a good change This game already has a buffing system outside of boons. There is no reason why not include guardian more into it.
  18. Sorry for late response.By outdated I meant that game simply outgrew how impactful they are. I agree that traits aren't really that good for virtues, but I don't think that fixing traits is gonna fix core guardian since traits also apply to FB and DH so any change to traits would simply spill over. There are few things that I would change for core virtues. Increase their radius to 900. Currently, virtues don't really feel or play like group support skillMake Virtue of Retribution a default for core virtues (this would also mean removing this trait from the game so i'm not 100% sure on this one)Increase impact of active core Justice. Make it 10 men in PvE setting and increase the number of stacks to 4 stacks of burning in PvE and 2 stacks in PvPIncrease active healing of Virtue of Resolve. Current healing simply isn't enough to justify 30 sec CD in current powercreep settingVirtue of Courage should have CD reduced to 35 and personal aegis refresh rate reduced to 30Active core Virtues should provide passive party buffs for a period of X seconds. For example activating core Justice should increase all damage done by 5% for 7 seconds, Resolve increase all healing received by 10% and Courage reduce all damage taken by 10% for 7 seconds.Reason behind this is following. Power core guard will always compete with DH, and support/bunker/healer will always compete with Firebrand. Only way to make core guard viable in the long run while maintaining profession diversity is to make it an offensive modifier profession. Core guard would thus maintain less personal dps compared to DH but would contribute to the overall DPS of the group and bring in extra utility.
  19. I don't think its doable. Support core guardian will always compete with FB, and unless its super buffed beyond imagination it wont be able to be better than FB. Even then the buffs to core guard would simply spill over to the Firebrand and FB would come on top again. Only way to make core guardian better is to rework core virtues. Core virtues are some of the most outdated skills in the game that can hardly be considered "profession mechanic" by todays standard. They are actually fairly weak skills with way to long of a CD. I can definitely agree with this part. Not just when it comes to burst dps. All roles available to guardian feel unfinished to the point that other professions can pick up the same job with either better output or lower effort. Probably only exception is FB in pre-made PvP/WvW.
  20. How do you even start this? Ive never seen any event/portal so far. Do you need to start from a specific location?
  21. It depends on how much leeway you allow from 100% meta. And if you understand what build they are playing and in what way is it different from meta. I have no problem if someone is close to meta but not 100% meta. I actually personally play commander/minstrels chrono for my fractals even though diviners is technically meta. On the other hand there are people that quite clearly play some weird builds that make little to no sense, like guardian with all signets. That would probably not fly. Don't confuse meta with viable. There are plenty viable specs and builds out there that are not meta
  22. Army doesn't exist in social vacuum. Yes, its obvious that modern army is superior to pre-modern. That doesnt mean that Ebon Vanguard is modern army. City states of pre-modern period can't sustain populace not actively working in actual economy. Even Habsburg military frontier was made up of peasants-soldiers that were first and foremost peasants, farmers and herders. Thats because a society that is on level of social development where economy is based on exploatation of land cannot sustain if its population doesn't work on the land. Sure, maybe there is some secret to Ebonhawke economy that wee don't know, but so far, there is absolutely no way that Ebon Vanguard is modern-like professional military. Also, Ebonhawke got constant support from Kryta. There is even a special military order of Krytans formed precisely to help Ebonhawke. And also, there was a route to Elona from Ebonhawke prior to Kralk's rising. Ebonhawke wasn't dealing with Charr on its own It is a good point about Vallus Smokemane. You are correct. But that hardly qualifies for plenty of charr :/
  23. Plenty of Chart use magic? Plus we see both golems and charr tanks do plenty in the Orr campaign, among other things. Acting like they're 'jokes' in and of itself is laughable when we have quite a bit more evidence to the contrary. Plenty of flame legion charr use magic, and player characters. Other than that, not many charr use magic. To the point that i cannot even remember ever seeing one using it. Edit: Closest to magic we see in high legion charr is Rytlock as he is revenantOn topic of tanks. We see them get stuck in mud and obliterated by mines. Yes, they are strong and capable but far from some OP device. Also, we see them used almost entirely as anti-personnel weapon. So long as humans don't march on tanks they will be fine. Very fair point. Having to split their training between the two... I can see that having an impact. Actually, most "armies" in medieval period were not really armies from modern standpoint. They were guards/mercenaries. Standing army with standardized training and equipment didn't really exist in medieval ages and was only "reinvented" in early modern period. Ebon Vanguard is definitely no exception since a city-state of that size cannot afford to have a permanent professional army, nor would it be able to function with so much of human capital diverted into military.
  24. End game solo content is the only thing that is coming out on steady and predictable basis. There are arguably more LWS content than anything anything else for dedicated fractal/raid runners, or PvPers and WvWers.
  25. Is there anything else in terms of lore? :D
