Hmm that mostly makes sense but I am pretty sure the previously allowed list of sites that you can embed images from already disallows those sorts of images

Right now you can technically still do it. You upload the shortest video possible to YouTube and set your image as the thumbnail.

That would be a case of the software being stupid and also an existing problem with videos.
