For you, not for me.

You know, my pet is worth all the gold in the world to me, but I'm sure not worth much to you. But, to put it in GW2 terms, unlocking certain skins had worth to me, but I've seen others post that they didn't care for those particular skins, at all, and they had no worth, whatsoever. /shrugIt's not all about Gold, for me.

(You might be interested in how the English dictionary defines worth.)

Thanks for the post OP. I love seeing what people get from these. It's mainly because I don't want to chance it myself.

Just reading through this thread some of you need to chill. If you think a thread is clickbait then leave it and don't post. You can't change the people who do it with your post and if they didn't do it intentionally then you are spinning your wheels complaining about it.

I bought 5 keys on that sale (first time in 2 years I took the plunge) and I was satisfied with my results. The drops are much more useful than they used to be and I even got a weapon skin. Totally jealous of those platinum nodes OP :)

"Value" is a matter of perspective.
  • 3000g = cost of unlocking all the
    skins
by purchasing via TP or gem shop. (Presuming the OP's math was correct).
  • 5775g = the cost of buying 250 keys on the gem shop directly, retail
  • 4620g = 20% discount cost
  • ~1000g = cost of unlocking the skins the OP actually likes

But the only important value is what the OP placed on the purchase in the first place

just wanted to gamble :)

Which is the only reason to buy the keys (in my opinion): pay for the excitement of hoping to roll something good. If you want specific things, buy them directly (which sometimes includes waiting until they are available to buy directly).

I'm not sure that's fair or the only way to look at it. Every item can be attributed a gold value based on what is listed in the market and there isn't anything unreasonable about doing that. It's also how assets are priced. They have a value, but that isn't money in the bank either.

And you might try to actually read what you're arguing against:

(Which any good dictionary will confirm.)

I really don't think it's "WORTH" arguing over a dictionary term .. both arguments are right in their own perspective..I place a personal worth on having the forums up, but I find reading the too'ing and frowing between yourself and Inculpatus kinda pretty much worthless to the topic ........

There are lots of "fair" ways to measure value; cost is only the most obvious. Of course it's entirely reasonable to use cost as the primary — or even the only — tool in decision making. However, it's very uncommon for humans to consider only coin when making choices.

If that was the only criterion, we wouldn't have casinos (house always win), gift giving during holidays (gifts are never as "valuable" as cash), or people in Silicon Valley paying US$20k to set up chicken coops in their suburban and urban back yards. Entertainment (for gambling), friendship & thoughtfulness (gift giving), and status (nuff said?) all have value, too. Economists like to imagine that they can measure that value in coin-equivalent (and for purposes of business and policy making, that's usually enough), but it remains subjective for each individual.

(Full Disclosure: I've opened many thousands of these.)

This isn't the first "I'm going to open X chests" video I've ever seen, but one thing missing is the excitement of opening each chest. It looks like you're just clicking through the whole stack as fast as you can, not really caring about the stuff, and just hoping to make a profit. I'd advise you (or anyone) not to do that because the vast, vast majority of the time you're going to be very disappointed.

Butif you do it for the excitement of opening the chest, the thrill of gambling, and the joy of getting something cool/useful/amusing, and you'll be far less disappointed.

I agree ! The speed is X2 on video but thats true I was fast, but I always look carefully at what I gain, especially if I see a 4th item :)

would be nice if i ever get a bl chest key for map completion efford. i am busy for map completion for a gift. now completed 4 maps and zero keys. its 20% so next map i have to get one. but i think i have to dream on. will not happen. rng with keys is very bad.but for mount contracts. i had only gems for 1 licence and i got the mount i wanted. 6,6% (1 out of 15) so i dont have to whine so much because this is the best loot i got this year <3

For map Completion you have 33% chance to drop a Key. You were just unlucky :(

Odd, the 'Drop Research' page I found on the Wiki states something else: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Map_completion/Drop_RatePerhaps, I'm looking at the wrong page.
