Abyssal Fractal Weapon Skins

Recommended Posts

I'm not arguing that they should be in there, but the chance of getting it from a wardrobe unlock is so low that most people are either never going to get one from one, or will just unlock one random one. I don't think it really takes away from the reward for doing the CM, and doesn't really affect the rarity of them.

I don't think you can call it pay to win to have a chance to get one out of thousands of other skins.

They should be a reward for clearing a difficult fractal, not a reward for typing in your credit card numbers.

Your reward is the fact you get the other rewards from the fractal CM. I genuinely don't see how this is a problem worth noting. No amount of credit card swiping gets them the infusion, if a tangible reward to show off is all you care about.

Pay to win.

Genuinely curious to hear what you win when you unlock a weapon skin - is it the year's supply of Doritos ArenaNet was promoting a couple of weeks ago?

Given the tiny chance someone has of getting these skins from the unlocks (let alone getting the skin they actually want from the set), it remains far more efficient/lucrative to go and play the fractal itself. If two people have the same Abyssal Fractal skin, one having done CMs to get it and the other having gotten supremely lucky with an unlock, explain to me how you can tell the difference, why the difference matters, or how they affect each other's gameplay and/or the economy of the game in any meaningful way.

The point I am trying to make is that some stuff should only be obtainable by actually playing the game.

And if people obtain their wardrobe unlocks by playing the game (gold to gems to keys)?

Like I get it, you want the content to feel meaningful. You don't like the idea of someone being able to throw down 20 dollars and get the same thing you get for throwing down 20 hours of working through fractals. But that's not what happens with wardrobe unlocks; what actually happens is a lottery with a chance of giving you something quite nice but weighted toward giving you lame things like that last piece of Norn cultural you've been putting off buying. Directly doing the content that directly awards the thing still remains the best way of getting the thing. And for those who can't or who genuinely do not enjoy doing fractals, they have a sliver of a chance to get the thing without doing them (either by cash or the gold method mentioned above).

If having alternative (and less efficient) routes to the same end is a nonstarter for you even though the end results are the same, I really have to wonder why. Why is the need for exclusivity so strong if it's not threatened by the alternative methods?

You do realize people that really want those can pay to get carried, right? Which is almost certainly going to be far cheaper than trying one unlock after another until you luck out to get what you wanted.

They are both. I don't think your point that some stuff should only be obtainable by actually playing the game is actually relevant in a game with this business model. I mean ... if that's your point, then you will have to explain why you think that way and you should also be more offended by the fact that someone can pay to get carried in the content you can get these items.

The players who at least have an overabundance of the unlockers will at least be able to skip Fractals again.

Is that even possible? They're supposed to be common but kitten I never get them ever.

I don't think anyone is saying that you are wrong, just that there is such an abysmally low chance to get one drop from an unlocker, that it isn't really an issue. This isn't even the first forum post about it, and I don't really think it's worth to keep discussing or making more posts about it.

And...nothing about Abyssal Fractal Weapons.

I've already finished the Abyssal Fractal collection, so I can't verify it myself, but you can preview a Black Lion chest, then preview the Wardrobe Unlocker inside it and check to see if the Abyssal Fractal weapons have been added.

As for me... I honestly don't mind that they're available from the Unlockers. As Astralporing pointed out, if someone with enough cash REALLY wanted skins from anywhere in the game (except those that are hard-locked behind RNG drops like the Sunless or Scion weapons), they can always pay someone to carry them through content. There are people that have done it, so any sense of prestige or exclusivity you might have from having a skin is really just an illusion. Take pride in how YOU earned it, because nobody can take that feeling of accomplishment from you. Whether or not somebody else has the same skin is something that you should not care anything about.

If anything, I'd actually petition ANet to allow the Abyssal weapons to be tradable, because otherwise if you're doing CM runs like I am every day, you build up thousands and thousands of Cosmic Essences but there's really nothing to spend them on once you've unlocked the stuff. At least with the old system, you could sell excess Essences for gold. If the Abyssal weapons are going to be available in the Wardrobe Unlocker, then I'd like it if Fractal CM'ers can convert our excess Essences into stuff other people want to buy.
