So, What's Next?

Recommended Posts

I purchased GW2 3,500 days ago. Wow, okay. It's been quite while  since I've logged in. 1 lvl 40 toon and 1 lvl 30 toon-ish, sweet. I guess i  played less than i thought a few years ago.  Ehh,  let's start a new character. I used to play Necro in  GW1 so let's give this a proper try.....

25 days later. 145 hrs. My Reaper has completed "My  Story", Watched Season 1 Vids, played through Season 2,  Played "HoT story", Played through Season 3, Played through Path of Fire, Working on Season 4 and Icebrood Saga next.

Holy crap this game is as addicting as GW1 was back in the day. With much more to do now while building on the core  concepts that made  GW1 great.

Anyways, so as I'm heading through all this story content... I'm thinking.... I don't want  it too end, but i know it'll end (until 2022!).  Yes there's some areas of the story that could've been polished/improved, but overall have  been enjoying it.

But when the storylines end, other than raids, fractals, and pvp, how else can i continue to experience this amazing world that feel so alive?  I have plans to make a few new characters, keep having fun with the Meta's/living  worlds.

But like, what other sort of End-Game content / Lore content can I shoot for and/or experience  once I'm finished with most of the storylines?  I'm sucked in and want to  experience more. And I know you nerds got some fun stuff to do in this game. It could be items to get, easter eggs, challenges, achievements to shoot for ect....

I am basically playing this game blind, haven't watched many videos, or researched  much at all unless  I'm completely lost. Just been grinding out Story's and Metas!

Looking for some responses from you experienced GW2 community  members out there.

Peace.  Love.  Unity.  Respect.

I don't really do instanced PvE content so what I do may not be up your alley.  Regardless:

I used to PvP a huge amount, and that was the challenging content I did as "end game" content.  I don't really have that much time anymore so I literally just do things on a whim in the game.

I log in, consider doing the dailies if I'm up for it (usually don't) and just wander around in-game.  There's so much stuff hidden away that I stumble into.  I don't grind away at achievements or collections, I just naturally get them in my meanderings of the world.  This is the only only online game where I can do this.  I can do whatever I want on any of my characters without having to plan anything out, and I still get shineis for it.

So that's my advice.  Just do stuff with the characters you enjoy playing.  If you bump into something you really like, stick with it.  Otherwise, just have fun knowing that the game doesn't pressure you in any way to do anything.

Right on, yeah that kinda sounds  a   bit what I've been doing.  If i find myself wanting to do something different than Story Journal missions, I'll pick a random map/zone and go explore. Complete hearts, grab Vistas and PoI's. And usually have found most of my Map Meta's that way. Stumble across 45  people on a Meta,  join  up and have some fun.

I found /wiki et recently and have been using that to plan out  joining Meta's. Been doing alot of the HoT Meta's, and now  starting up PoF Meta's. Just trying to get the whole experience best i can 5 years late =P

Yeah I've been slowly looking through the Achievements, I just do not know where to start because there are so many!

I am also working on crafting. Not buying any materials with gold though so far. Just been grinding zones, salvaging and building up mats for now. I have Weaponsmith, Chef, Huntsman, Artificer, and Tailor all under 100 skill lvl though.

I have no clue what Caladbolg is, what part of the storylihe is that from?

Each to his/her own but I enjoy doing new fashion looks, mapping, leveling toons or trying new specs, doing achies (slowly) or just chilling and chatting.

Caladbolg is a reward ascended weapon of your choise for completing side story Knight of the Thorn after HoT main one.
For crafting there are fast and regular (cheaper) guides at gw2crafts.net.

Most importantly: have fun gaming! :classic_smile:

Besides the story my favourite activity is exploring. By which I don't mean checking off points for map completion (although that will happen along the way), I mean picking a map and just...exploring. Choose a direction which looks interesting and see what you can find, talk to NPCs, poke around inside buildings (the ones you can enter anyway), follow rivers and caves to see where they go. Do events and listen to the dialogue before and after, stick around to see if another event starts up. Anything which interests you. You can learn a lot about the world and the lore that way, but I also find I have the most fun when I forget about completing goals in a game and just focus on enjoying this virtual world and besides the story that's the best way I've found to do it.

Also along the way you'll probably find you complete (or at least discover) mini dungeons and jumping puzzles, items for achievements and other stuff which can give you an incentive to start new goals.

The other thing which takes up quite a bit of my time is collecting skins and items to customise my characters. Legendaries are the obvious time sinks but there's lots of easier to obtain skins which are also cool. I'll look through the wardrobe periodically to see what appeals to me and then use the Wiki to find out how it's obtained. Some are just bought with gold/gems, but there's lots which come from completing collections or participating in map meta events and collecting unique currencies to buy them and those are more fun. Some have their own stories too.

Glad I was able to get a few replies!

I have to agree at the moment I am having a blast going through the story lines for my first time. Doing Meta's, and Literally just exploring  like you explained above @Danikat.8537!

I love sticking around before and after missions and dialogue to hear the banter and lore pieces that are voice acted but not forced upon you.

What do collections offer? I've come across them in the achievements. I am unaware of the benefits of completing the collections though.

Also, quick question hopefully someone read this whole post....  I have about 10 items in my inventory that say stuff like "This residue lies dorment. It can be infused... ect" or "A Humming emanates from this orb, it can me amplified with an additional source of ect..."   I've tried going to the locations after double clicking the item to show location... but i cant tell what to do when i get to the area. Any hints??

Thank You lovely GW2 community!

I will also have to go check out this side story! I must have missed it in my travels.

In game, you can type in chat

/wiki

then shift + click the item in you're inventory.  The GW2 wiki opens on your default browser and loads the page for that exact item.  I do this a lot.

Finding the random banter is always fun.  Can you find the asura in Queensdale that's been waiting for 2 weeks for his golem to come back?

Or the quaggan that tells you that you swim like a rock?

Or the Charr who let a Norn shave his name into his fur?

I can't remember a lot of them off the top of my head.  But if you slow down and listen to the banter, you'll do a lot of double-takes.

It can be overwhelming and confusing at times, the amount of content this game has. There's no hurry to do it so play at your own pace.

Great tip from Rogue above. The community maintained official GW2 Wiki is very useful site, helped me countless times.

Collections and other achievements can reward many different items, titles or vendor unlocks. Some of the most useful ones are likely the different converter gizmos and ascended gear, for example the specialization collections. All professions (character classes) can get two different weapons, one for each elite specialization. All ascended gear is account bound, meaning you can use them on any character you want. You can also change the attributes for most ascended gear. (Remeber to remove any upgrades before doing it.)

Hope this was of some help. Most times the /map chat is also willing to help if you need quick advice while gaming.

I still love the HoT metas: VB/AB/TD (not so much) and especially DS, so I can play them endlessly. I also love the leveling in GW2 (IMO it's better than any other current MMO), so I've casually leveled a bunch of 'em. I skip story whenever I can, because I hate it - not just in GW2, in games in general. The standard answer might be: pick a legendary you like and grind it. I could never bring myself to do that though.

Maybe step back from the game for a little while and find out what you miss most.

Ah, and LD pony runs and the yearly mad labs are great for my OCD ; - )

If the items you are referring to are the ones I'm thinking of, then those are items that are required for "crafting" Mawdrey and Mawdrey II.

The items I'm thinking of include:

Mysterious Seed

Enormous Foxfire Cluster

Chaos Orb

Pile of Ley Line Dust

If those are the items you referred to and you want to do something with them, it's best you check the wiki on how to proceed:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mawdrey/Walkthrough

There possibly are more items for Mawdrey that you got from Season 2, but it's been years since I did this side quest.

Yes those are the ones! I've been trying to figure it out as much as i can in-game, but it seems I am getting to the point where /Wiki is my best friend haha!

I have also found the HoT metas to be really enjoyable. Dragon's Stand is a fun one for sure. Especially since I havent grinded skyscale yet. Im all gliding around from platform to platform amongst  all the chaos haha. Definately a blast to do!

Yes this is my go-to activity when I'm taking a break from the story for a bit. Pick a random map I have never explored yet and just try to 100% it! I have found so many fun and beautiful areas that way!

Loving GW2!

Thanks @Jukhy.2431 for the end-game direction help. Still working on understanding the different achievement/collection unlocks. I'm still a 1.5k Achievement noob! The specialization collections link was very helpful especially. I think with GW2 and its horizontal progression style had me confused for a bit. Even though GW1 was a bit similiar, its still such a different system, but very enjoyable once you start to understand what stats your spec needs.

Have you done any of the elite specializations?  Thought about crafting a Legendary?  I have several short-term goals going all the time and usually one long-term one like making a Legendary weapon.

Glad you're having so much fun, love your enthusiasm!

I am 50% of the way into Reaper Specialization. And i have a Warrior who I specced Spellbreaker, but haven't leveled all the way down the tree yet. I wasn't ready for the Spellbreaker playstyle so it's just sitting there atm.

I haven't researched any legendary crafting items at all yet!  I am working on my Weaponsmithing and Tailoring right now (reaper crafting choices). But both are only around 100. I haven't purchased any mats on the Trading Post yet. Just been using self-grinded Mats. I will give the Wiki Legendary Weapons a look and see what's available for reaper. That will probably be my first class I craft a  Legendary for!

I'll do some wiki research but any crafting tips/tricks/hints would be most helpful!

Reaper is my fave elite since my main is a Necro!

If you're interested in crafting a Legendary for yourself (to keep, not to sell), do read and watch all you can about them, and take your time deciding on one. Bank the valuable mats you get from, say, daily login rewards like Mystic Clovers and Mystic Coins.  If you want a Gen 1 Leg, you'll need a Gift of Exploration, which you get from map completion which it sounds like you enjoy already. Note which maps you need for that, mostly core Tyria, and which ones you don't, like HoT.

One of my favorite YT'ers is The Krytan Herald, and she has several great videos about Legendary Weapons, such as this one .  Some will appeal to you, some may look silly, and some may be ugly.  You may also see some in the game world that strike your fancy; for example, I never considered Bolt until I saw someone wielding it, and I just had to have it.  Same with The Bifrost.  Keep in mind that two-handed Legs are the most costly to buy or craft, then main hand, then off hand, then underwater ones, generally speaking.

A good, free asset to see what you need for crafting anything, what's on your account, etc. is GW2Efficiency.com .  Can't recommend it highly enough.

@Witch of Doom.5739 Thank You for the great info! I will definately use the tools you mentioned above. Herald Gaming / Krytan Herald's Youtube page looks pretty good also! I'm definitely going to watch that video and more.

GW2Efficiency.com is a bit overwhelming at first but I assume once I am more familiar with crafting and Legendaries it will make more sense.

From your statement above all Gen 1 Legendaries need Gift of Exploration? And do you only get 1 per character once 100% map completion is done on that toon?

Thanks for all the great info! I definately have my homework for the week =P

You get TWO (2) Gifts of Exploration per map completion on a character. And yes, all the gen 1 legendaries require one - unless you buy them instead of crafting. Gen 2 legendaries cannot be bought, though.

By the way, as long as you aren't doing something like Chalice of Tears or Searing Ascent jumping puzzles, I'd forego using guides. It's much more satisfying to complete some of these more unique achievements / quests on your own.

But like, what other sort of End-Game content / Lore content can I shoot for and/or experience  once I'm finished with most of the storylines?  I'm sucked in and want to  experience more

There's raid wings 1-3 and 4 (Forsaken Thicket and Bastion of the Penitent) that add a lot into the overall lore and help you understand the events that occurred both between the time skip (GW1-GW2), and between Personal Story (Zhaitan) and Living World Season 3. Bastion of the Penitent has some fairly easy bosses, so I'd aim to maybe complete that one if you have any form of curiosity towards raiding.

Apart from the instances, I believe most players are achievement hunters - and, quite honestly, there's easily enough content to keep you busy 'till End of Dragons, there.

You should also aim to collect all the pets / items / collectibles for your home instance. There's more than plenty, and some are quite tricky to get (and funny, i.e. Caudecus' cat).

So much great advice in this topic! Love how helpful this community is.

As mentioned before following gw2crafts.net guides is the easiest and cheapest solution for leveling crafting.

If you haven't already, you might also want to check out metabattle.com for best (meta) builds. I usually choose a build I enjoy most for the class and then customize it a bit to fit my personal taste. Having the most optimal and fitting build for you will be important especially in the expansion areas where the skill level required is higher. Also for fractals/strikes/raids playing a meta build is usually the safest option, since they have been tested and vetted by the more experienced players.

What’s next after exploring the world and doing the story content?

* Get the Skyscale, the Griffon and the Rollerbeetle

* Go into the achievement tab and find a fun achievement or a title you want to unlock

* Start working on your legendary journey

* Learn PvP

* Roam WvW with friends

* Unlock cosmetics and perks with map currencies

* Explore dungeons

* Go through fractals

* Try a raid

* Mount races

* Learn how to fly the Griffon

* Learn how to ride your Rollerbeetle

* Master a few profession skills

* Level a new profession and level it

* Replay living story instances for achievements and see the other decisions you could have made

That’s just what I had on top of my mind. There’s so much to do, see and explore 😄
