Issue with increased load times

Hi all, I have a message from James Fulop:

We are aware of a new problem after Tuesday's Lunar New Year update that causes longer load times for some players. We have found the cause for this and will have a fix ready in time for the next regularly-scheduled release. The problem is related to the command-line option "-maploadinfo", so until then, disabling that option should help.

I'll have to test the load times with it on and off with like a stopwatch to see how much of a difference it makes.

Been told by several people deleting your local.dat file (the one that stores your email & pass, and other various settings in game).. helps, but I don't feel like redoing all that lol

that didnt worked for me and many others. so better not bothering with it.. (better save the time from adjusting the settings again^^)

  • I delete my Local.dat file every few months to 'clear out' any wonkiness that can happen over time.

And doing that for this issue did improve my load times--for a short while, then the load times got really bad again. Ultimately, removing the "mapLoadInfo" command line argument did fix the issue for me.

  • This has been actually happening for a few months already, together with frame rate drops in bosses that changes your FoV

but isnt it a bit too annoying to always adjust the settings again after deleting it?

This one I noticed as well.

Removing maploadinfo did help some, the loading times still arent up to ssd standards though, so there has to be an additional issue. But at least Im not getting kicked anymore from grps/squads for "taking too long" ;p

  • Thanks @Fire Attunement.9835 . Do you have any tips for players that get a white screen after logging in using fullscreen windowed mode?

Thank you for responding to this serious issue.

Hmm... not really? Its only the Sound and Graphic settings that I have to re-do and that takes less than a minute to do. Clearing out that Local.dat file has really helped resolve performance issues in the past, so its really worth it. :)

i dont use the maploadinfo and I have definitely noticed the increased load times. Funny enough, I have an Nvidia 2080 RTX card and saw in the patch notes that it would improve loading times for some Nvidia cards, but it looks like it did the opposite for mine???

Oh I've had that since forever. Sometimes I even get two white windows, when I closed the game while on Windowed mode and the window was not on my main monitor. It opens a window in the main one, and a window in the other one, and then randomly it either keeps the one on the main or the secondary. Can't click on either cause it would ask me to force close!

So patch just hit.. I didn't see any notes on this fix. Is it still not shipped yet?

  • Enabling it still results in abnormally long load times.

it will wipe your graphics settings, so take a screenshot of your graphics settings before you delete local.dat; your key-binds will not be wiped.

it seems to have work for a short while, but back to slow loading time overtime

  • Hi all, I checked with James and have an update on this issue. Due to a delay the fix is now going in with the February 11 update. We're sorry this is taking longer than planned, and appreciate your patience.

  • Andrew, is there any chance for adding percentage progress on loading screens?

  • Andrew, I would like to know if you have any intention of updating the game's graphics engine!

You can add the command line argument -maploadinfo to your gw2 shortcut and it will show a lot of loading info, like whether it's still connecting to the server, if it's downloading or decompressing files, and the loading progress.

  • I didn't encounter any loading issues, but im mostly in old world and playing on low settings. Bmarches is loading longer though.

Of course, not until after this upcoming fix for -maploadinfo.

Any chance you can take a look at why the trading post is being extremely slow the past few months?

This only applied if you used -maploadinfo in your game's shortcut target command line.

Have you tried clearing your GW2 cache?

yeah just checked, they are pretty much empty cause my cleanmgr scheduled task wipes %TEMP%. I mean in the past months trying to post something to sell takes like 10 sec, while rest of the game is ok. been playing for 7 years and definitely it is way slower than it used to.

I agree with Voidek and Ytsejam. Despite not using the maploadinfo thing and having cleared the cache and dns flushed I find the maps of the Icebrood Saga load much longer than any other (even longer than LA). Its like up to 5 mins loading screen every time. The tp often also loads slow last month incl still getting the message of login server blabla when just doing things in open world while the net is fine... (Not as much as it has been last month but it didn't completely vanish either). So I guess theres still something up with eu servers...

Might want to update the release notes.

  • Yes, it does seem to me like load times have decreased.

Doesn't seem to be solved at my end. Loading times are still very slow. Don't have maploadinfo in my command line and tried cleaning the cache. Nothing seems to help. And of course I have the latest patch. So no idea how to solve this problem... :anguished:

Looks like the -maploadinfo bug is back with the latest updates. Over 2 minute loading time for waypoints within Lions Arch.

  • I have the same issue here. Map takes nearly 134 seconds to load on login. After that, it loads partially and some characters take minutes to load.

  • is login server ok now? logged in in the morning: no lags or increased loading times. Now i have login takes almost 5 loops to complete login. I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and an internet speed of 400-500 KBps so it's not from my side.

Everything has the right to live
