  1. Most players with any skill will eat those for breakfast. The exception potentially being super tanky and trying to win by attrition, which is bad in small scale unless someone else is picking up the damage pressure or they stick around long enough for you to win and you're not interrupted.
  2. I can't speak for pvp, but I can regularly pull 10k mauls in wvw, and that's without any group buffs or huge might stacks... and it can be chained and hits several targets. You wanna know what a nerfhammer looks like? Go check the sad history of the warrior's Hundred Blades (their "big damage" gs2 skill). At launch, it was basically an absurd meme, despite rooting you. Now you're better off just swinging the auto chain. There are bigger fish to fry than Maul, even for the ranger.
  3. I did the exact same thing, though. I don't think he's talking about me, but the details are eerily similar - exclusively roamed on warrior (mostly solo) for 6-7 years, abandoned the class about six months ago to play ranger (currently soulbeast). Ranger is a better warrior than a warrior, tbh. Some people can make it work, but they're paying a huge opportunity cost in doing so.
  4. Why not just block the person if that happens? And, the nice thing is we can all set our own thresholds for block based on our own criteria. Honestly, I find the ability to start conversations with people on other servers a huge plus to the game mode. Under the current configuration, salt merchants can't bring toxicity on a large scale (no access to anything but whispers, not especially easy to cause widespread harassment, etc) and if they go through the hassle of initiating a direct conversation to be a jerk, they can be blocked with less effort than they already put in. Really egregious people can be reported as a bonus. Meanwhile, it opens up a broader sense of community, creates opportunities for people to improve their game play (e.g. skill and tactic discussions while dueling), etc.
  5. For sure, if +25% boon duration doesn't give you any more mileage than +15%, then the extra concentration is wasted. The extra damage I was referring to was from the higher crit damage, the +10% from the runes, and an assumption that the higher concentration would result in higher damage (more critical, more might, etc). If those assumptions are wrong, then yeah, it wipes that right off the table.
  6. I noticed the gear choices you recommended on metabattle. The end result appears to be 7k (approx 60%) more health plus 25% movement speed at the cost of a truckload more damage and greater boon duration. The health is undeniably a big one, but I kind of expected guardian mitigations to offset that a bit (aegis, prot, blocks, blinds). I currently run full glass on a ranger (slightly more health, slightly less armor), but I rely on mobility and ranged damage pressure when melee is too hot. Are the guardian tools not enough to fill the range/(escape) mobility void? As another data point, I used to run full glass warrior for years while roaming, which was all melee like this build, had about the same health pool as your gear version, but far fewer mitigations and healing offset by better (though not great) escape potential. As for shelter, it certainly makes sense and I'll have to defer to the wisdom of people who've actually played the class. My thinking between the two is that LoW is traited to give 3k immediately and then a single Glacial Blow would give another 3k, etc, etc., and on a shorter cd vs the 4.5k of Shelter plus damage mitigation, which will provide more value in a scrum but only a delay against a competent player while stopping all counterpressure from me. This might be just a matter of being opposite to my normal fight logic so I'm not fully appreciating the value of the skill, especially as part of the total guardian package. First hand experience is definitely needed.
  7. Thanks so much for the response. I'll read up on your suggestions and look up the build on metabattle too. About the Intelligence sigil... is it really necessary? With retal up the crit chance is 82%, which goes to 100% with fury. I can see that fury uptime isn't that great, but I'd assumed pretty solid uptime for retal. Is that not the case?
  8. Howdy guardians. I came across one of your peers yesterday who graciously gave me an education (read: serial kittenkicking) using a build that was similar to this, and I was hoping some of you more experienced folks could give some feedback on it, it's utility for solo roaming in wvw, and weaknesses/limitations I should be aware of. Reason being, the build looked fun and I thought I'd roll up a guardian to give it a whirl (but wanted to be aware of potential red flags before I do). http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PWwAIx7lFw6YfMQ2IW8PmrfA-zVRYBR9GOsyIzqqzU1kDSY83SVmRA-w Anyway, I just made up the gear. All I know is he was running pretty glassy (he told me) and used a hydromancy sigil and these weapons. Glacial Blow was a murder factory. One thing that confused me was using Shelter. Litany of Wrath looks much better to me, so was wondering if any of you had insight into why Shelter might be a better choice. As for its use for solo roaming, one limitation I guess would be escaping the horde. But its combat mobility (sticking to target) is exceptional.
  9. I'd honestly rather it become one of those targeted pulls that lands consistently than gaining damage.
  10. I don't recall the title specifying pve when I first replied, but like I said earlier, I don't have an issue with your specific proposal. The rest of what I said still stands though. You want to play condi ranger and keep pace with the top DPS builds doing that. That's fine and reasonable, but assuming that the reason you aren't is because Anet hates rangers isn't. Meanwhile, other rangers who want to play the class a different way in a different game mode have the same expectation, and then they assume that if they can't, and they make the same conclusion - "Anet hates rangers". Then everybody in every class subforum does the same thing and.... I hope you see the point.
  11. In competitive play, it'll be a nerf since torent has historically hit at the thing that best supports survival - mobility. Even still, that's one class that's getting a boost in pve exclusively, and it may we'll see nerfs if it looks overtuned. As for where condi ranger can keep pace, it can do well in competitive play now. Not too of the line, but really solid.
  12. My point was more about the broad claim that "Anet hates rangers" rather than the specific request to boost condis for the class. That being said, ranger isn't trash tier on condis, and the benchmark op used (renegade) looks to me like it's getting a nerf due to the torment and resistance changes, at least in competitive play (can't say I know that class well, though). So, while I don't have an issue with the proposal, it's a bit unreasonable to expect ranger to keep pace with the top classes on every measure.
  13. You know, you can find "Anet hates [insert subforum class]" in every class subforum since launch, right? Ranger is a great class with a lot more options to it than some other classes. Sure, there are some aspects of the game where it doesn't have a strong place (hello, large scale wvw), but it's in a pretty good spot otherwise.
  14. Feels bad, man. Feels real bad. Couple that with a 25% damage cut and formerly useful traits with 5 min ICDs and that's why I roll as a ranger now....
  15. I'd love to have someway to turn in those emblems I get for killing dudes and taking structures, beyond the legendary trinket thing, I mean. Might be an easier thing to implement than your proposal, provided they counted as currencies that could be used for good loots.
  16. Eh... these things always get charged with excessive posturing. They've got a couple exceptional fighters (imo), a few more really strong ones, and a fair number who aren't nearly as skilled as they think they are. And, despite the name, egos and delusions of grandeur aren't well correlated with ability. Bottom line: it's just a game. You have some control over whether you get trolled, and even more control over how you react to it. On the flip side, being a kitten probably isn't worth the reputational cost.
  17. Why not play a different game mode? If it's because you like wvw better, there's the reward.
  18. You can block people on your own server too, of course. Happened to me once, but not for toxicity.... A guy on my server jumped into a duel I was having, apparently not noticing the spectators or my messages letting him know. He inundated me with pms for not helping after he died, and then I realized he blocked me when I tried to reply.
  19. Lol, your crew does exactly what the OP is upset about. You trying to set up a protection racket or something? XD
  20. I used to have a pretty good hit rate by deselecting the target, then reselecting mid cast. Had the additional benefit of confusing some opponents into thinking I was running away or repositioning, only to boomerang into their face. Or maybe it was my imagination that it hit more often. Seemed legit though. XD
  21. That's some high quality advice right there. I hadn't even considered using OWP to lever up the comparatively low smoke assault damage. Might have to go back to gs and smokescreen for a bit, at least for some duels... maybe roaming too, if I can get proficient enough with smoke stealth to offset the mobility loss of an alternet pet.
  22. This just isn't true. Both about how common it was for people to wear all zerk pre-HoT and about it being non-viable since. If someone can be successful running marauders, they can be successful running zerk. Which stat combo is optimal has always been about the build, the player, and the circumstances of the fight. Similarly, the condi vs power gripes have been a common forum feature since launch. It used to be about how condi builds weren't viable at all in competitive play. Then condis got a bunch of love and the familiar "condi is way overtuned and hard carries bads" became the thing, coupled with the conceit that truly skilled players ran power (ideally zerk, but that eventually softened to include marauders as equal). That latter conceit was largely dropped except by diehard old timer power players, leaving just the "condi carries bads" with the acknowledgement that they have little value in larger fights. Here's the thing though, it's mostly nonsense. It definitely doesn't feel good to lose a fight to someone who's clearly less skilled but seemingly carried by their build, but that's not unique to condi builds. Ranger lb, thief stealth/mobility, and lately nade engi (when in groups) all offer similar opportunities, and like condi builds, that doesn't mean people using those things are necessarily bad or carried by something broken. The indignation of losing fights to someone perceived as being less skilled is the origin of every nerf thread since launch, whether based in fact or not. It's usually just an l2p issue though.
  23. alredy running 4 skill with cleanse and Superior_Sigil_of_Cleansing use foods too.its too little You might need to work on your positioning and strategy a bit. I don't have nearly the cleanses you do, and I don't find condi builds especially overturned at small scale. Don't get me wrong, some can present a serious threat, but that's fine. Honestly, it's much harder as a class that has to stay in melee with them. Just keep range a bunch, use cc and stealth, and take your time on the tanky ones. With condi revs (which seems like one of the things you're talking about), be ranged,
  24. Are you roaming or in small scale skirmishes? Because I was in NA T1 not long ago (#subserverblues), and I came across them with some regularity. It wasn't the most common thing by any stretch, but more common than, say, nade engi.
