TP > Armor > Back

Recommended Posts

If you look at trading post, under armour, back. The section is very sad very dissappointing. Spineguard, Backwarmer, Fiber splice are not really skins.  I would like the option to put on Ghostly spineguard as a skin. So do not need to manual toggle on off at the backs for each template.

If you keep scrolling through this section, the contents is ugly. Translation: No nice backpack to purchase!!
So pls anet, hire some freelancers. Contract some design studios. Procure some 3d art pieces. Whatever.

It is time to design, hand us some nice, good looking, cool, color dyable backpacks!

Also if I want to look for lanterns. I would have searched keyword "lantern". I come to see backpacks at TP. That section has been pathetic.  You would think Anet want to excite their gamers to earn gold and exchange for exciting rewards at trading post? Nah ain't gonna happen with such a limited and sad collections.

It is like walking into a store with just a few machandise

Why is this important? - The back piece is what a gamer will spend majority of time staring at whiles playing this RPG game. Think about it. When is last time you spin the character around to look at its front. It is almost always the back view facing the gaming.

There are

Crafted backpacks which are all styled after the profession
Ascended backpacks themed after one of the six human gods (With Balthazar being PvP only).
A set of 4 in progression to a legendary backpiece for  WvW, PvP, or Fractals
Backpacks themed after festivals given out for completing collections (Super Adventure Box backpacks for  example)

This list isn't complete, but in general, all backpacks are  either achievement rewards or gemstore items.

There are a lot of nice back items, they're just not all tradable so you won't find them on the TP. You can preview them in-game using the wardrobe at the bank, or you can see them all on the Wiki: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gallery_of_back_items

The wiki also has links to each backpacks page, which will explain how to get it. Some are from the gem store, others are from achievements or bought from vendors and some are craftable.

I think originally back items were supposed to be the 'special' armour piece. There were very few in the game at launch and if I remember correctly none of them had skins, the first one we got with a skin was Mad Memoires at Halloween. Now of course there's a lot more, but they've largely kept the theme of being something you have to go out of your way to get.

To add to this, most backs on the trading post that look nice are not full back pieces, so you want to look under SKINS not armour.

Did just that. Found 13 variety. Some bears, some really odd looking plants, some Sun/Wind catchers. Thats not alot. I found 1 or 2 bag that looks like a bag. The rest, I don't know what they are. Decorations?

Little bears are cute, I'll give them credit for that.

OK, point is too few for buying. From Trading Post.
Even with the Gemstore it comes in rotation, each time offering a handful. Back piece plus glider.

This game is lacking dyeable backpacks. Not capes. Not wings. Certainly not those bears or lanterns. But functional color dyeable backpacks. Backpacking or military types if you will.

Here's the list of dyeable Back  Items (no idea if a 'backpack' that fits your requirement is included): https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Category:Dyeable_back_items

Here's a list of all Back Items:  https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Back_item

You can find many 'backpacks' among the list, though not all dyeable.  Such as: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mercenary_Backpack

or https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Canthan_Traveler's_Pack

or https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Practical_Leatherworker's_Backpack_(skin)

or any number of others.

Gliders are a HoT monetization item.  Only legendary backpacks have matching gliders.

Also, as someone else pointed out, there are a plethora of backpacks on the trading post under 'skins' not 'back items'.

There's a number of them you can get through collections/achievements and the like over time, but it's a bit obscure. For example, Heart of Thorns has a set of three Order-themed back items, but you get the exotic and ascended version through collections (you get a rare version that unlocks exotic collection after one of the story steps, I forget which off-hand).

There are so many back pack skins from a variety of sources...LWS3 has a ton of them.  Every crafting discipline can make them.  Festivals have them.  Achievements have them.  Canach has them in his casino.  Surely there are enough in game, not including the ones in the gem store.

Did you even look at the two birthday ones I mentioned, or are you still a long way off the 5th birthday of your account? Only I would have thought that the Hoelbrak and DR backpacks are basically the definition of mountain backpacks.  (old style ones anyways, not modern)

I use the wardrobe system (bank/crafting station tab) to find good looking skins and then check the wiki how to get them.

As for back item dyeability: most of the new ones are dyeable, but older ones are not. Anet changed this at one point since it was requested a lot and they probably saw that dyeable gem store skins sell better. As for changing the old ones, the default answer given is that it would require a lot of work to recode the items.

there are 334 back item skins available in game out of a total of 2,497  under armor(that's just over 13%). Yes, many are not tradable but there is an abundance of options.

Will Anet continue to release gem store skins? of course; but they are unlikely to appear on TP if they are sold for gems.

As others have pointed out, older back items were not coded to have dye channels and new ones can be.

In short: I'm astonished that you cannot find a single skin which may loosely fit your style but perhaps you need to review the possible wardrobe and then work out a method of acquisition for the desired skin.

My main gripe with gw2 is not even close to being a lack of earnable backpacks, its the near enough total lack of ability to earn glider and mount skins. I really hope OP isn't into those too or he's gonna have sad times.

Anet chose glider and mount cosmetics to be one of its revenue streams. I imagine those items bring in a very decent chunk of the ££ needed to fund the games development so in all honesty I don't think there needs to be a change there.

I don't even mind it so much, but if OP thinks like 100 earnable ones is bad, he's not gonna like that. That said, it would be nice to be able to earn a couple.

You can play whatever OW content that you want to earn anything in the TP just by converting gold to gems.
