So I bought a new character slot and wanted to make a male sylvari since I had a *really* pretty design I wanted to use.  At first I wanted to go thief and play off the whole 'darkness' and 'shadows' thing but for me the light cultural armor is superior so...not that.  I already have a mesmer I like and a necro I'm 'eh' on and don't want to double up so that leaves me with elementalist.  I have heard things...mostly that they are hard.  I main ranger and really like the mesmer...like having the option of ranged fighting when I can and am pretty middle of the road skill wise probably?  I started playing in August.  SO, I think he needs to be an ele...and I have a spare lvl 80 boost I can use but before I sink money into him want to be sure I like it ok.  SO SELL ME.  What are your *favorite* or best parts of playing elementalist?  Best vids or posts etc. etc.  I know of rumors only.

Also, I always see them dealing with fire....is that the only option or is it just the most popular?  Because he's a dark and white type color combo and I thought water and air would be ok....but having him wield nothing but fire would kill the look. (sad I can't change colors on fire...or mesmer for that matter, blue fire would be amazing.)

Elementalists don't really operate in just one element.  Each element is used for different things.  For instance, fire is all about damage in the forms of both power and burning.  Water revolves around healing with some control effects like chill.  There are power-based builds that trait air and water, but you'd still be using fire for a good portion of your damage.  Elite specs like weaver and catalyst especially won't really work just utilizing air and water due to the specifics of their mechanics.

So why elementalist?  It's complex, fun, and unique.  My personal favorite spec is weaver.  I love the ability to attune to two elements at once and the impact that has on the way weaver is played when compared to other elementalist specs.

Here's a sample video of a champion solo.  You can see the way weaver rotates through combinations of the 4 elements to get the job done.

Thank you!  And that is good to know on the fire dps, and why I see it used so heavily when I'm seeing eles.  Its an extra character so I don't need to be top tier on my fighting with it probably...just wanted to know options if I can have fun running around with it for various things.  There is always the possibility of really growing to love it and going to those higher levels later.  Just that anytime I hear about it people aren't too jazzed so I wanted to hear about people who love  playing it and the highlights to try out.

Auramancer is a super fun support build. Watching other players kill themselves from projectiles reflecting during earth aura is glorious. If you want just one element you will be disappointed though, there are some LI builds out there that only use one element, but most viable Ele builds will need you to be a professional pianist or an expert keybinder.

I do miss GW1 elementalist where you would only focus on one primary element and one support element. Felt more impactful than hitting every button you can before swapping / overloading.

Dont use a booster for the ele class you need to level it up and work out how best to stay alive in pve (spvp/wvw) content. This only comes though time and game play. You can get away with boosting any other class in the game for pve content (not so much for spvp/wvw).

It a fun class that take times to understand.

Are you a hardcore masochist piano player who will enjoy a class balanced against immobile golem benchmarks?  Like rollercoaster series of nerf/buff/nerf/nerf?  Want a class that Celestial is mandatory for taking on certain bounties when other classes use Berserker/Vipers on?

If yes, the class is a perfect fit!

HEY man, i am playing Elementalist in pvp and WvW. It is by far my favorite class, simply because of the complexity and diffrent options it provides. There is good power builds, good condibuilds, you are meta support. Ele can simply fill every role.

i use the Fire traitline to cleanse alot of conditions, and i use Earth traitline for Protection. This makes me REALLY REALLY REALLY tanky. I then use the Tempest specialisation to do alot of AoE damage and melt my enemys.

I am having a blast with Elementalist. If you know how to play it, you can confidentely fight multiple people at once.    Im not really sure how good Ele is in PvE right now... but its one of the stronget classes for Player versus Player content.

Im just gonna link a few videos i uploaded recently. ^_^

Play piano on your keyboard, get RSI, and become one of the strongest players in the game. Then spend most of your time on the ground because in the real world stuff happens and you still have half the defense of literally everyone else and only slightly higher damage under the best case scenarios.

I mean pretty much any open world build aimed on doing bounties and metas solo uses celestial , trailblazer or any other gear with defensive stats.

Pure viper or berserker is for masochists.  Not to mention that for certain classes celestial and berserk have comparable damage.

Don't listen to all the negative comments, Ele is so much fun to play! And you arrieved just in time to enjoy the brand new post-balance Scepter, which is a nice and fun dps ranged option now!  Scepter/Focus is a super begginer friendly combination, specially when paired with Glyphs Utilities such as the glyph of Elementals and Glyph of Storms. If you enjoy swapping between ranged and melee, you can slot conjure weapons like Lightning Hammer.

You can build power gear with vitality to balance the squishiness and, being ranged, Scepter/Focus let you kite Mobs with ease. If you have EoD, a lvl 10 Jade Core allows you to go Full Berserker's in PvE with enough survavibility to not be a downstate meme.

It's a fun playstyle, you should def try it, i'm sure you'll like it 😄

oh, and I just noticed this part:

Scepter/ Focus Weaver can cycle through the attunements the most. Dual skills create a nice flow of DPS due to the Scepter's #2 short cooldowns, which allows you to add Water, Air and Earth to your rotations as much as you like (Just make sure to build it with your preferences in mind, since Trait Lines can add a lot to the gameplay)

For the legendaries yep.  Celestial as an extra set is the tax Ele has to pay to function for Open World (yes, DPS is usually higher solo Celestial for Ele); still have to optimize towards Raids with Berserkers or Vipers.

Back to the topic:  also expect iterative balancing (nerfs) based on PvP bleeding into PvE.  ie Ride the Lightning, Lightning Flash.

From a Pvp perspective, Ele is incredibly fun. I've played the other classes. I have lvl 80's in all of them. But most come across as boring or simple compared to Ele.

With Ele there's so many ways to circumvent your enemies. Outsmart them and come out on top. Each spec allows different roles: healing support, boon support, pure damage, etc. If you really want to make a statement, play core and shred through your enemies. Which is entirely possible if you know what you're doing. Currently, Catalyst is my favorite cause it buffs core Ele in all the right ways.

It's not an easy class. But if you're a person who prefers a challenge, then Ele is your best choice. When you master the class, you'll be able to play any meta with any Ele elite spec that you prefer.
