Things Mentioned that never came to be

There are certain things mentioned in the game through person story, and things mentioned by multiple npcs that have left me wondering if they were just loose ends that they decided to give up on or were just put in to get our hopes up for nothing as players.

* One example is the sylvary personal story. you meet a sylvary not born from the pale tree that isnt corrupted, and mentions that there tree doesnt seem to have a voice or dream like the plae tree. After helping him he says hell return with new sylvari from his tree to help fight the dragons and nightmare court. He also seems to be a first born from his tree. Yet nothing ever seems to come of it, many thought the first expansion would bring him back yet his tree seems to be from a different part . Honestly as a sylvari player this was a major disappointment that nothing has ever come of this loose end.

* Another thing mentioned by multiple Npcs of other Races, like the Tengu mentioning once we proved that we were as strong as the previous races they would join us in the fight versus the dragons and possibly open their home area to us. Many thought this would bring tengu as a playable race with their starting area thats next to the sylvari starting area as possible playable race. Also the Largos mentioned their war in the ocean and also joining when they could shif tthe tides of their battle with dragon minions in the water or other horrors that were never fully specified. Yet when we finally got to the water dragon it wasnt fighting the Largos and the chance of being a playable race also got so many players hopes up.

* I am sure there is a lot more examples, but so many players have constantly asked for other races as the story progressed and arena net just seemed to ignore their player base. Many even asked for the sub races like skritt, quaggan, Kodan, hylek to be playable even if they dont have a personal story just to add a fun sub race to play the game as. that would bring so many old players back to get a chance to play their favorite races.

No offense my dude, but these are all very OLD and very often repeated topics of discussion, the playable races one especially so and the numerous reasons why its not something Anet can or will ever be able to do (its also not generally a "Lore" topic fyi). To risk pulling a Kharmin on you, give the Search bar a glance before starting a new thread, see what people have discussed previously.

Yes, unfortunately the personal story left a LOT of dangling hook points for later writers to pick up.

Season 1 promptly decided to ignore ALL of them and do its own thing, only picking up on one singular lore hook ("sylvari are dragon minions") and one plotline (Elder Dragons!) and this happened again with Season 3... and Season 4... and IBS, and EoD, and SotO.

Every expansion adds 10 plot hooks, and the subsequent storyline only picks up 1-2 of them, leaving the others to sit on the table where Zojja sat for 5 years.

Add that to the EOD one which heavily implied that something horrible is lurking in the ruins of Raisu Palace and may be contributing to the Risen we see in the area.
That Zhaitan was the source but no longer the cause of them.

The entire EoD living world season got scrapped for SotO.

Probably won't ever go back to Cantha.

they said they aren't done with cantha yet. they deliberately didn't make the next expansion take place there because players would claim they only sold end of dragons as half an expansion, despite its already massive size and overwhelming story length.

as a game company, they have to be careful about every move they make.

secrets of the obscure heavily hints that we'll be going to kirin peak at some point, as something is wrong there.

To be fair, "there is something wrong" all around.

My guess for the next Expack will be the lurking underwater beast. The thing that was once meant to be Soo Won but got retconned.

Maybe that's a reason to go back to Cantha.

We only just got the answer to a mystery they've been teasing since GW1 released - what is the Wizard's Tower and what's going on there? It's possible they'll eventually go back to other unresolved plot lines and mysteries at some point in future.

I know they said they wanted to include Malyck's Tree in HoT but couldn't give it enough time to tell the story properly, so they decided it was better to leave it out. Apparently they'd debated how to tell the story of the Wizard's Tower as well, with people pitching it as a Fractal or a side-story but none of them seemed right.

Some of them they've kind-of justified leaving hanging. For example we learned from the Tengu during Icebrood Saga that the Domain of Winds isn't completely united, there's seperate clans and families and apparently the tengu who individually decided to join the Pact or to fight the dragons during Champions didn't actually have the authority to make even their own family join us. Of course there's plenty of ways the writers can get around that as and when they want to, and I hope they do eventually, but it seems to imply they didn't intend to do it any time soon.

What was the Kirin Peak hint?

Dude don’t lie to yourself and everyone else like it isn’t transparently obvious to everyone. You absolutely meant offense, otherwise you would have just closed the topic and moved on like any decent person would with a topic they don’t like.

Offense or not, these are extremely old topics from core GW2, nothing recent. And have been covered to death and back.

The seeds for a living world story in Cantha were definitely planted. Hopefully they return to them eventually, because a lot of them seemed like they'd be pretty awesome.

The seeds for future plots in Cantha was planted.

But from Day 1 of EoD's release, there was a noticeable lack of calling future content a "season" or "living world". The very first "future of the studio" post that went out less than 1 month after EoD talked about the future "story update" and "map", but not "season" or "living world". Pretty clear that they never planned a Season 6.

Finally, we’re happy to confirm that we’re working on the next story update for Guild Wars 2, including a new map set in the Cantha region. The story (and how we tell it) can go in so many interesting directions now that the Elder Dragon threat is addressed!

I will agree that I hope they go and tackle the Raisu Palace mysteries though, and the long-established deep sea horror that was always intended to be the sixth Elder Dragon. But I am not expecting it tbh.
