I, personally, do not have issues with mounts. However, I do have concerns with objectives being so close to each other while adding in mounts.

As is, you can Treb most structures from safety inside another structure without much effort and run to them in a very short time. Now, with mounts, players will be zipping around even quicker to objectives... Not to forget about being able to get back into a battle very quickly from spawn if you die... So I hope the team strongly considers expanding maps, to space out objectives a bit, so having mounts can become a more welcome, and needed, addition to wvw.

Thanks for reading!

You haven't seen it yet. how can you already ask for map redesign?

You’ve been here long enough to know the answer to that question.

Mounts speeds are faster than character speeds. The video also shows that the mount can leap/lunge forward, and we can assume this would be tied to mount endurance... See how the raptor functions? Looks very similar.

It might turn out that it's super fast in Desert (where people are always whining about the distances) and slower in alpine (where people seem content with the range), and unusable in EB (I doubt that, but who knows). There are all sorts of possibilities. I'm reserving my umbrage or praise until we actually know something.

My thread was based off of what is seen in the video, and what we already know about how mounts are designed and function.

Highly doubtful the devs are going to put in massive restrictions, like slow speeds and such, because then mounts would become a meaningless addition. Players aren't going to be happy if there isn't some benefit, and if mounts become mostly a "cosmetic" change that just adds more lag to the system.

And my previous post... "Mounts speeds are faster than character speeds. The video also shows that the mount can leap/lunge forward, and we can assume this would be tied to mount endurance... See how the raptor functions? Looks very similar."

Edit- So based off of what I can see in the vid, what I know about mounts, how close wvw objectives are and how quickly players can get to objectives... I'm brining up a concern. There is also a lot of backlash going on as we type, so I'm trying to bring something constructive to the table instead of "whining".

That's my point: this thread isn't based on what's actually in the game, because... the mount isn't in the game yet.Even if ANet 100% agreed with you that the maps need adjusting (or that the mounts do), it would be 5-8 months minimum before they could make those changes. So why not give everyone a few weeks to see how it actually plays out before making claims based on 100% speculation?

Highly doubtful the devs are going to put in massive restrictions, like slow speeds and such, because then mounts would become a meaningless addition. The point is: we simply have no idea. What's the rush to post today, without any actual experience with the mount?

I do not care if something isn't in the game yet. Have you ever provided feedback, made talking points or brought up potential concerns on things from X pacs before they were released? Or any potential updates the devs started to drip info about before adding in, and from a clear video no less?

I'm not trying to argue with one of my favorite posters on these forums, but I'm not sure it would be very constructive if I told you, or any player, to not post feedback on "things" that weren't in game yet.. even if the devs were giving information on such "things"... See what I'm saying? Or should we just tell the devs to NOT post any information so no one can talk about anything until after it is uploaded...

And to use your post to highlight my concern...

Your statement... "It might turn out that it's super fast in Desert (where people are always whining about the distances) and slower in alpine (where people seem content with the range), and unusable in EB (I doubt that, but who knows)."... You obviously know the differences between the maps considering the above comments, and that should give you an indication of my concerns about this topic. Also, that video shows a mount, with a movement skill, being used in EBG at SMC.

And something to consider... Mounts were not needed. There are a plethora of "things" related to pvp modes, professions for pvp modes, combat for pvp modes, balance for pvp modes... that players have been begging for improvements on... that do not include the idea of mounts. So if mounts become more of a "need", through increased map sizes, then players would be more accepting of having mounts inside of wvw. And increasing map sizes makes mounts actually useful for traveling to, and between, objectives... And you also have to acknowledge that wvw maps were not originally designed for mounts, and that is a concern for a mode that centers around capturing and defending objectives.

Edit- And not to mention the implications of mounts on combat... Take note of "This mount won’t just get you around the battlefield quickly, though there is that benefit."

WvW players know all too well that content for the least popular game mode is rare, so when it does happen it’s something really exciting. That’s why we’re so excited that there’s a Guild Wars 2 WvW mount coming out. This mount won’t just get you around the battlefield quickly, though there is that benefit.

The Warclaw comes with three special abilities that will enhance your WvW gameplay.
1. The first is Battle Maul. When you jump into battle while mounted your Warclaw will maul your enemy before it disappears. This is your standard attack and dismount move.
2. The second ability is Chain Pull and from a WvWer’s standpoint possibly the most exciting of the three abilities. Those on Warclaws will be able to help pull down gates to gain entrance to whatever structure the zerg is currently focused on. This is an advanced ability which almost certainly means that it will have to be unlocked. As of writing this, pre-embargo we don’t yet have that information.
3. The final ability is Evade. Get a quick burst of speed and evade attacks allowing you to break through enemy lines. This will be especially useful in Castle sieges where getting a team through the hall quickly to attack from behind will add a very interesting new element to the event.

The Warclaw is will be available on February 26th for anyone who owns Path of Fire. While we may have to wait a week before we can play with it we can see it now in this fantastic trailer.

As someone who is a long time fan of WvW, I’m especially intrigued to see what kind of impact Warclaw will have on WvW.
Though I suspect that having the mount will become a requirement for taking part in the game.
This has the potential to leave some people behind who haven’t bought Path of Fire and have no plans to do so. Expect WvW queues to come back for the next few days as everyone wants to give the new mount a try.

If you’re interested in The Warclaw it can only be obtained in WvW but, it can be summoned anywhere other mounts can be summoned. That means you will be able to use it in the open world. However, the Chain Pull ability is something that has very limited use in the main PvE part of the world. So, while it will be fun for getting around with it may not have much utility. Still, how many Charr are we going to see running around riding on Warkitties? The answer is a lot…including me.

Who here sees this now being a requirement to join guilds and raids. Why did they have to add abilities that will break the mode.

They aren't going to change Tuesday's release (certainly they can't "increase map sizes"). Even if they agreed today that the maps need adjusting, it takes 5-8 months to implement a fully-baked map concept. So why aren't you willing to wait until you actually get on a mount to see what will happen, how it works.

You might discover that the map size isn't an issue, or that it's the least of the issues. Or you might not. Either way, you'd be able to provide informed feedback based on your actual experience, rather than on speculation.

I'm not sure it would be very constructive if I told you, or any player, to not post feedback on "things" that weren't in game yet..Good thing I'm not trying to tell you what to do. I'm asking why you aren't choosing to wait until you can provide feedback about the game.

Let me put it another way:This thread's feedback is about the video, not about the actual mount. Because, we can't actually provide feedback about the mount yet, since it isn't something we have any actual in-game experience with.

"I hope the team strongly considers expanding maps in the future"

I like ya, but I have every right to discuss game related topics. I do not tell poster to basically "not post" because it's not loaded into the game yet. If that were the case, then we could all just tell each other to "be quite and wait" all the time, and I don't thinks that's really productive or healthy.

Edit- "we can't actually provide feedback about the mount yet, since it isn't something we have any actual in-game experience with." I do have experience with mounts in gw2 and wvw. Based off of those experiences I have a valid concern. And that concern was just confirmed by that article. I have every right to bring up my thoughts based off of past experiences, just like you do as well. None of us need X in the game before we are allowed, or should be able, to discuss them.

They should honestly give EBG a face lift and change some things. Ogres, frogs, dredge and those little outliers like the arboreal spirit grub event thing are just wasted space. The tunnels near blue keep are quite unique in that you can go under/above that area. Would like to see more of thise. Too much wasted space - not just in EBG. Alpine as well.

Maybe throw in an actual underwater combat revamp and extend the underwater areas like near green keep to be able to swim underneath the land to the water area in front of anzalias. Lots of things they could do. But it requires work so it won't happen... OMG FLUFFY QUAGGAN!!

I absolutely agree with this. I hate the idea of mounts in WvW, it was a stomach churning day when I read the announcement. Arena-Net has a major disconnect with his player base between what it needs and what they want to do.

But no amount of crying will stop mounts now. Anet is bent on dropping this gimmick in WvW and I'm sure we'll be seeing the first skins for the kitten by the end of March. So we need to discuss how to make mounts work now. This is the number 1 suggest I can get behind. Right now, between regular mobility and gliding, I can get from North Camp to South Camp in probably about 3-4 minutes on an ele spamming my mobility skills. I'm sure classes like Mirage and Thief can get there quicker. Mounts exist to cover terrain quickly. Compared to other games that use large scale PvP modes, the battlegrounds are tiny by comparison. If it takes me 4 minutes to travel the length of the map using basic mobility, then there is NO REASON we need a mount. These maps are Core Game maps, designed without the concept of mounts. When gliding was added, changes were made to the terrain to ensure balance in where you can and can't glide. Clearly by the fact that one of the skills is for a keep door, these limitations of mounting in enemy territory will not be a thing. So what are the limitations that will be placed on the mount?

An entire rework of the boarderlands isn't needed, but please look into expanding them. This isn't just from a game play perspective, I really see no flipping reason why anyone would need to use a mount in WvW in its current form. The Alpine BLs are too small and the Desert BL is too vertical making a land based mount just redundant.

I really hope some of these concerns can be addressed in the stream Thursday. This is the first real change that I have actually thought about closing my GW2 account for good. I will be watching every word you say on Thursday, Arena-Net.

@TheGrimm.5624 said:I admit, I am hoping this means new bigger maps, may not be a popular opinion but it is what it is.

We have one big map and people hate it... Complain of long walks and that objectives are too far from each other.

And mounts will change that perspective. Larger maps, with objectives spread out a bit more, gives mounts a real purpose and need.

Think of it in these terms... For core tyria maps you don't really need mounts. Those areas were made with character running in mind. Now look at the sizes and designs of PoF maps by comparison... PoF maps were made with mounts in mind and we can all see the differences. Yes, mounts are convenient on any map and that's awesome fun, but newer map designs match up with mount designs 100x better.

And I don't feel it to be unreasonable to ask for map improvements that make having mounts fit in better... Would also love to see more maps added in considering the below...

New PvE maps since August 28th 2012…https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Southsun_Covehttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dry_Tophttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Silverwasteshttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Verdant_Brinkhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Auric_Basinhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tangled_Depthshttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragon's_Standhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bloodstone_Fenhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ember_Bayhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bitterfrost_Frontierhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lake_Dorichttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Draconis_Monshttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Siren's_Landinghttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crystal_Oasishttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Desert_Highlandshttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Elon_Riverlandshttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Desolationhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Domain_of_Vabbihttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Domain_of_Istanhttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sandswept_Isleshttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Domain_of_Kournahttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Jahai_Bluffshttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Thunderhead_Peaks

That’s 23 new maps added (with tons of content) over the course of 78 months. That's an average of 1 new pve map roughly every 3 months. There are now a total of 48 pve maps.

Meanwhile… WvW maps added since August 28th 2012…https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Edge_of_the_Mistshttps://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Desert_Borderlands

That’s 2 new maps (which requires less content creation) over the course 78 months. That’s 1 new map for wvw players every 39 months. There are a total of 5 wvw maps, and 1 of them doesn't have the newer reward system...
