  1. There arent many people who remember how gyro used to work. If you watched the old HoT trailer you would notice that gyro looks bigger and seems to do various stuff. That is because the first iteration of gyro could be classified as mini pet. They're not pet that stays on field permanently but at the same time, gyro were considered as a separate entity so you could actually target them and kill them if you wanted. This iteration of gyro was (and in my book still is) the most unique concept Anet ever gave to an Engineer. I mean ok I like Holosmith and Mechanist but one is a a kit with heat management and the other is a pet. However that design was not very functional compared to the current moving well. Reason being mostly due to AI pathfinding being....well what it still is. For PvE you can definitely work around but for PvP, especially WvW, the gyro had a hard time following you when moving through rough terrain. Making Scrapper well static is just....boring. All other wells in the game are static and balanced around the fact they cannot be moved. Scrapper well are balanced around the fact it sticks to the Engineer. If they want to remove the well effect while keeping the uniqueness of Scrapper then I can only see one option and that is to go back to square one. Personnally I wont mind however the performance will definitely get impacted.
  2. Slick shoes is underwhelming when you use it without gadgeteer. With gadgeteer it becomes meh only because the CD is shorter and you also apply cripple. And I wont even talk about the underwater version... I would only use slick shoes for the breakstun but I do think they should change some things on that skill
  3. I didnt know Scrapper was meta in PvE. That must be why Scourge Renegade and Firebrand were at the top 3 since PoF until EoD releases. And even afterward, Firebrand is still at the top. Holo was being played yes because it was the only competitive DPS build Engineer had. The other was Scrapper support but FB good luck trying to fit a Scrapper back in the day. Nobody plays core engineer except the few core dedicated person in PvP. But no I was referring to people complaining that AAR was OP because it had no ICD and the OP even found the solution to that by adding an internal 3 sec CD to the trait. Little did he know the skill already had an internal CD of 3 sec. Of course that is just one among many example. I could use the search function and find all the other shenanigans like that but that would be a waste of time on my part. I would rather play the game than search for this
  4. I wasnt necessarily referring to mech. But it is true that mechanist did highlight a lack of player's ability to read which can be an issue when using skill.
  5. Engineer has always been the least played profession until they introduced Revenant. Despite people claiming Ele is dead or no one play Elementalist, there were still more elementalist player overall than Engineer. It took 10 years and an elite spec for Engineer to see more people play the class. And the forum is a good example of what happens when a class people didnt even know existed suddenly see a rise in its playerbase.
  6. I agree stealth gyro is now underwhelming if not garbage for an elite skill. But the less stealth WvW has the better. Stealth as a mechanis is unfun and broken
  7. The stealth gyro is now an underwhelming skill to use compared to mortar, supply crate or the elixir. 3 sec of stealth, 0 smoke field and an indicator.... Yeah no thanks. That being said, it is a good step towards reducing the amount of stealth in WvW so I'm fine with it. The less stealth we have in WvW the better.
  8. I dont remember people complaining about the bagpack though. If anything these backpack were part the engi identity and Anet removed them for whatever reason. Sadge
  9. No no no, you should never add abilities like this to core class. I like to meme about supply crate on Engineer not providing WvW supply but this is not something Anet should even think about doing. Core class already have some unique skill like Engineer having access to orbital strike or a potion that turns people into moa for instance. Thief steal has a longer range on core compared to Daredevil. Mesmer has access to its invincibility on its F4 compared to chrono (thought this may be removed when Anet get rid of trade off). Granted they are not necessarily strong enough to pick them over a spec however adding abilities like what you suggest is definitely a no go.
  10. What powerfull effect ? Gyro effect are only good because you actually get to enjoy the full benefit. What people want is Anet using their brain and not kill what makes Gyro different than normal well. Alternatively, if Anet is dead set on keeping gyro stationnary then at some point they will buff them because they are underwhelming compared to other well available in game. The small gyro vs necro well post above is a good summary. And once it will get buffed, you and other will come back there to complain and ask for a return to their former state.
  11. Ah yes hypocrisy at its peak. Because as we all know, dumpstering a class a lot of people play is fine but dumpstering a class that 1% of the playerbase play is not fine. This is a very logical and big brain way to balance stuff out. And this is why at time, I am glad companies ignore their player suggestion
  12. "This makes mechanists very versatile, letting them specialise into damage dealing..." Sounds to me you can play PMech and do primarily damage. And guess what, support mech do not pump out as much damage as any DPS but what you're asking is for PMech to pump out as much damage as support without providing ANYTHING ELSE. Because in case you're not aware PMech gives nothing to the team.
  13. The main selling point of the Mech was to have a strong pet following the engineer, which has been made clear from the beginning when the dev said they are removing toolbelt skill in favor of giving the Mech more power. The fact it has a low intensity build is the result of allowing the pet to actually do damage which in return made the class more popular for people with disabilities overall. 32k DPS is trash for DPS. 34k is already acceptable.
  14. And you will not even be allowed to enter a group because you do kitten poor damage as a DPS and a support will deal the same if not much more damage while actually giving the team much more utility. Being ranged+pet means nothing if you cannot bring a minimum value
  15. If you put it that low then you may as well bring a support build
  16. No the Ranger does not give up anything to have access to that pet. Proof is, I can just create my character and at level 1 and I already have a pet with me. And why is that ? because it IS the gimmick of the class. People comparing Ranger to a spec that requires you not only to give up 29 potential skill but also gives literally 0 buff to the engineer itself, are either being dishonest or straight up ignorant. A Mechanist without its pet is a worse core engineer and as far as I know, there is no other spec in the game that turns your spec into a worse version of your core class to such an extent if you do not use the gimmick. Even Virtuoso that lose access to their clones still gets some reworked shattered. What do Mechanist get ? Yes a strong pet with 9 customable skill and these 9 customable skill have to make up for the 29 skill loss that goes from : -boons (elixir toss) -heal (medkit) -high burst of damage (grenade barrage) -short CD spammable skill (rifle turret) -high CC (bomb kit) -breakstun (slick shoes, elixir gun) -invisibility (elixir something) -small CC (ramming) -burst condi (flamethrower kit) If the spec gets hard nerf to a point the tradeoff are not worth playing the spec then why even bother playing it in the first place ? Why would I play Mechanist and rely on a pet to deal the same amount of damage as my Holosmith in which not only I would have the same damage, but also I wouldnt suffer from a big tradeoff in case I go off photon forge because I still have my toolbelt skill. Anet put themself in this situation because they wanted to give more power to the Mech and a lot of player actually enjoy mechanist because of that.
  17. Firebrand is an issue however there is another side of the coin that is people misconception of other support. Firebrand needs to be changed that is true however it does not means other support like quickness Scrapper(both as healer and DPS) , Heal Tempest alac or even Druid alac are bad support. Yeah the nerf on the medkit and elixir gun were completely stupid and had 0 thought behind but it can still be a decent healer A lot of people sleep on those support just because hurr durr Ham and HFB stonk, even though they can perfectly do the same job and that is really sad.
  18. I like people comparing Mechanist to Ranger pet when I can use Ranger's pet regardless of the skilltree I seclect the only difference being the effectiveness of the said pet. You want Mechanist to be like Ranger pet ? Fine by me, but just like Ranger pet, allow the Mech to be used even when the player is not using the Mechanist trait. If you think what I'm asking is totally stupid then you should realize that your demand is as stupid as mine. Ok now that I've triggered 99% of the non engineer players and my post will receive only confused emote, I will say that I like the idea of giving back toolbelt skill when the pet leave the combat. It would actually give the player "half" the effect of core engineer skills (main skill) when the mech is on field but if you want the other "half" effect of the skill (toolbelt skill) you will have to give up your mech. It would prevent shenanigans like grenade barrage under jade canon F1. The only part where it may gets tricky is if you're using signet because they werent designed to be used with a toolbelt skill which means you'll basically have nothing in your toolbelt skill on that slot. But then again, if I see this as a tradeoff for using signet then honestly that's fine.
  19. People want piano build to do more damage than LI build but the truth is they already do more damage. Build like condi untamed, power bladesworn currently reaching 40k+ DPS are good example. They are high APM build doing high damage. But the real issue is not Pmech doing too much damage it is that not every piano build cannot reach the same level of DPS. Weaver condi is arguably harder to use than condition untamed and yet, condi untame can reach 42k DPS while condi weaver barely reaches 38k despite having more rotation.
  20. I experimented a core engi build after the buff to mine field and found out if worked ok against melee mobs in general. I checked your gear and think it should work good with what you already have http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PeQAQlZwOYbsRWJOsLvreA-zRRYiRQnvRUgCOiIUAGdRkFA-e Basically, spam beltshot as much as possible. You want to use minefield inside the boss hitbox so that most of the mine it spawn will actually hit the boss when you detonate it. The combo throw mine + rifle 4 + rifle 3 should deal a decent amount of CC damage but if it's not enough, you can use the slick shoes and run inside the mob hitbox. I'm running Gadgeteer trait which boost gadget but honestly this trait is replaceable with something else like Kinetic battery for quickness which is actually easy to trigger by spamming surprise shot. If you plan to keep using Gadgeteer though, you can replace the heal turret with AED which will give another CC through the belt skill.
  21. Oh yes you'll get a buff in the form of trade offf being removed.......just like any other spec actually. But no buff or whatsoever
  22. The gyro where designed to stick with you which is why in the end, something like blast gyro that has like 2-3 sec before exploding could still be a threat by having the Scrapper following you. Something like Shredder gyro that deals low damage/hit could still be a good skill to chip away a good chunk of HP by following the Scrapper. Scrapper well effect are relatively weak as far as effect/pulse goes but you get to use the full effect unlike other wells.
  23. We'll have to see how much DPS loss the nerf will do but Mech not having any ferocity, it will be extremely laughable if it reaches the DPS of support build
  24. I dont know about Virtuoso but S/S condi Mirage is a pretty effective and easy build to play. Literally spam dodge on CD and when you're out of dodge you switch weapon and spam even more dodges. Use shade crystal or whatever they are called when you run out of dodge as a filler. That way not only do you do damage while being basically impossible to hit but you also provide your team mate with might fury and alacrity. Condition Scourge is also a default pick for that
