Arborstone feels like home

Recommended Posts

When they first revealed Arborstone I was feeling indifferent towards it, but now after playing the expansion for a bit I start to really like the place, the experience boost is a nice touch which makes me feel happy to send my characters to before I log out everytime.

Honestly, i would rather have Arborstone's concept applied to somewhere in New Kaineng in a more compact space with a city theme that, in my opinion, would make more sense for a permanent 'Tyrian' outpost in Cantha.

Arborstone looks great, but it works in small service clusters that are too far away from each other. This means that the small little corner with banks, TP, forge and other black lion NPC's is cool... but then crafting is on a whole different level (literally) with cooking and jeweler being on a different place for some reason. The inn is cool conceptually, but too much verticality comes to play against it since it's not something that you easily find, is more like something that you can accidentally stumble upon. And the same thing happens with the strange out of place Canach's casino.

All of that could be handled better in a city environment. The casino would fit better since it already has that city club vibe. The inn could be easier to spot and being part of a massive city with great views it certainly fits better. The NPC's and services also fit better on a market plaza surrounded by buildings than some empty ruins on a forest and the crafting area also fits better as an artisans row from a big city.

I know that we are beyond changing any of this, but i enjoy thinking about how things could've been if the expansion hub had been in Kaineng instead of Arborstone.

Yeah, Arborstone is just a big failure as a player hub. Why do things need to spread out that much?

Because they want to keep the incentive to buy access to those gemstore hubs I guess.

It does feel weird to have two crafting stations in a different place then all the rest though. And I kind of miss the portal from Eye of the North after upgrading it to connect with all capitals and home instance. There is only portal to LA in Arborstone 😕

Overall I like it. And the hotel resting area is a great idea.

Arborstone is ....fine
The Inn buff is nice but I honestly find myself porting back to the Eye of the North mostly unless I need access to  Cantha stuff or the mystic forge.
It middle for me right now. Used more than the Lily but nowhere near as much as The Eye.

There are better places to access crafting stations/forge/etc, so that part is meh for me.

I like Arborstone because it offers easy access to three of the four EOD maps and has some fun distractions of its own. I spent about an hour in the Canach Club last night having a blast.

I just started logging out in the inn. With so many mastery points just waiting for the experience to spend them the bonus was enticing.

I’m even going so far as to have my characters /sleep in the beds before I log off. Watch out though, sometimes they slip right through and end up sleeping under the bed.

I ran across one PC autorunning into a corner in one of the rooms. Any guesses as to why someone would do that? The only thing I could think was that they thought the buff required staying logged in the whole four hours like some Korean MMOs do with afk “training”.

Anet does have a lot of experience with hubs/lounges. Eye of the North, Lily of the Elon, Sun's Refuge, several Gemstore-Lounges, etc.

Arborstone feels like Anet did not really learn from their experience with all the existing hubs/lounges.

THIS, SO MUCH THIS!

Arbeostone can suck a lemon thb. It's dreary, overly large, uninspired, and just plain boring. It shouldn't even exist.
