Disconnect when mounting a turtle [Merged]

Recommended Posts

Same thing happened  to me this morning during the DE meta - every time I'd mount up on my turtle I'd disconnect and be kicked to the character selection screen. Miraculously I made it back to the correct map each time - it prolly happened 6 times. I had no idea at the time it was turtle mount issue - by the time my game chilled out and stabilized we were done with the captain Fa escort and turtles anyways.

Actually running while mounting your turtle still crashes I guess I got lucky the few times it worked for me😑 As Smoky.5348 said that's what we need to do now until it's fixed. I thought that patch today fixed it, but nope.

Thankfully I rarely ever use the turtle. I just mess around with it when I'm bored, or if I ever feel like joining a Dragon's End meta map which is rare now. So it'll stay unused until a fix is implemented.

Same problem here, started happening on balance patch day. It's a bummer for me because I love using it when playing with my SO (such a great mount for duo map completion/events). Definitely one of my most used mounts .

At least I can now use it by pre-loading the model in my hero panel, thanks to you guys.

I noticed it for the first time yesterday evening (EU Time), as I did not use the Siege Turtle for a while (only did Dailies the last couple of days), but I am quite certain that it used to work flawlessly a couple of days ago, so it must most likely have been introduced with the latest patch:

Whenever I summon the Siege Turtle, the mounting animation plays halfway and then the game instantly kicks me back to the main menu with a "The game client lost its connection to the server" error message. All other mounts are fine, but for the Siege Turtle it happens every time.

I did some more in-depth testing with different characters and the issue seems not to be tied to a specific mount skin, but some connection to the skins must be there, because swapping skins altered the behavior temporarily... but more on that later.

It first occurred when I created a new character. I selected all mount skins and dyes and went on questing. The selected mount was by default bound to the ST so when I first pressed the general mount key, the crash happened for the first time. After I identified the ST as the clear culprit here, I started to try it with some of my other characters. For my main char, the effect was the same, it kicked me out. Then I tried another one and all of a sudden it worked. Went back to the main char, worked as well now. Went  back to the new char, kicked out to main menu again and after that, it happened again on my main char as well. It seems, every time the error occurs on the new character, it somehow "poisons" the action for other characters as well until I go through a couple of them and then at some point it fixes itself, until I come back to the new char, that is.
The last thing that I tried with the new char was changing the mount skin for the turtle. Then it suddenly worked, even after switching back to the skin it had before that. But only for a few minutes, after that, summoning it kicked me out again.

Frankly, I have no idea at all what's going on here, but it just can't be that the action of summoning a ST is now basically like playing Russian Roulette. What if it kicks me out of a map that runs a well-going meta? That's quite a serious issue, I would say.

Having this problem too. Finally got my turtle only to get disconnected almost every time I try to summon it. I think it might be some issues with the skins, but not sure. Switching skins sometimes works, sometimes not, but the one that seems to do it most often is the lava/fire skin.

(Also, slightly off topic, the new skyscale skins don't work properly for me either. I can mount up without crashing, but it always gets stuck for a bit after summoning it, both on the ground and in midair...)

It crashed my client all the time, too.. but I swapped skin, and then went back and it worked fine.

Maybe you needed to "reset" it by selecting a different skin, then it starts working properly again.

Edit:  When I tried again the next day, it crashed again.  So I had to change skin, then swap back to the skin that crashed me (Luminous Bastion), and it worked again.  I guess until I log.

There's another much longer thread about this (which has likely been bumped down to the 2nd page already) so hopefully Anet is aware of it by now.  The crashes seem to happen less if you're using the default Turtle mount skin but do still occur.  One workaround that has been suggested by other players is to preview the turtle skin in your Hero panel before attempting to mount up, which seems to correct the issue.  Hopefully that helps!

Confirmed, previewing first seems to avoid the client crashing for me.
