I would rather see a lot of weapon and armor skins finding their way into the game and that aren't too hard to obtain (can be still locked behind some challenges). We got enough super expensive legendaries which require lot of effort. Why not split the price and time requirement equal behind (I dunno) five, six or seven new armor sets and a couple new weapon skins (in addition to weapon sets like skyforged weapons). I really don't need another legendary axe skin at this point …

quite frankly, they should remove the aquabreather as an equipment piece, and turn it into a cosmetic-only system, just like gliders.

Not going to happen, they recently added an achievement for 7 legendary runes, do the math.

They changed how one new legendary is working. That’s it. All the rest is just in your head. It’s actually a good change and really not a big deal.Β
Obsidian armor works just like every other legendary in the game, it has the same QoL features. It is by no means legendary in name only and the legendary functionality is not heavily reduced.Β

Yes and in next expansion they could change how legendary weapons or armor work since clearly it worked with the runes with not to much backlash.

A legendary minipet that can do some tasks for you.

A more versatile Jade Bot for example.
Mine gathers leather from corpses, even my corpse sometimes.

There could be more done with that system... Like auto-gathering nodes.

Legendary belt/nosering/underwear, heard it here first

...actually - and according to the most recent data-mining we have - there's also going to be a belly button ring; the text files are not 100% clear on this but some veterans and youtubers[source missing] have speculated the belly ring will have between 40% to 80% more stats than the nose ring. Tidbits of lore have emerged from those files as well, but we don't yet know for sure if such rings will originate from a spin-off Olmakhan sect or what the files appear to reference as a Rata Sum gang of disillusioned progeny, although upper-ear rings, shafts, pendants and what have you cannot be substantiated by the data so far.

The image files from that batch however seem to suggest very, very different torso tattoos than the ones currently in-game -which by the way will also support ray-tracing (primarily in a beta phase tho) - so don't be surprised if there's a new "gear" slot for "holo-tats" or w/e.

Overall it's safe to say - until stuff gets announced and/or leaked - the next xpack will lean heavily on body art in its multiple applications and expressions but which new stat combos will arise from them remains to be seen.

Just read their explanation about whyΒ  Legendary Relic now will require continuous unlocking with each further expansion. You can clearly see how they currently seem to heavily dislike how the Legendary functionality helps you get out of the gear hamster wheel.

They are now clearly testing how to (re)introduce gear progression systems, and how to bypass original Legendary BiS guarantees that run counter to that idea. If so, why would they want to introduce more of the stuff that seems to hamper their efforts to put more emphasis on gear grind to GW2?

Arenanet lost sight of the idea that cosmetic unlocking is better than a gear grind. So they have to do this weird dance with the relic and avoid making new stat combinations.

They've just decided (again, i might add, that's a recurring situation) that not including gear grind in this game was a mistake. Gear grind hamster wheels are just easier to make than good content after all.

Well, to be fair, the playerbase mostly don't care about good content, so giving a bit of horizontal progression (basically similar to mastery, in a sense) as an incensive to slightly engage with the content (the most "grind" required in relic achievement is 10 convergence, most on them is "hey, do this quest" or "do the story") is not really that bad.

It's a classic case of boling a frog. They tried to push for a direct change of gear progression paradigm once (when they introduced ascended, and mentioned they will both continue with gear progression and raise a level cap) but got stopped by a massive backlash. So, this time they went for a gradual approach, where every single step seems really minor. Each individual step is too small to cause a major outrage, and seems like it's not an issue after all, but each of those steps keep adding up, and weaken the old paradigm more and more with each attempt. Relics alone went through three of such steps (removing part of functionality from a gear slot and transferring it to a completely new slot that needs to be obtained separately, weakening the legendary functionality by announcing legendary relic will need to keep being unlocked, and then by quietly removing access to SotO relics from non-SotO owners in direct conflict with earlier announcement - and making decision about that change practically right after said announcement has been made).

With each step they make with lack of strong opposition from community they get encouragement to make a next one that pushes the boundary just a little bit further. Expecting that it's going to stop at some point is naive.

If (and it's a big if) we're getting legendaries as a long term goal with the new expansion, this is what I'm expecting:

  • aquabreather, since it's the last piece of equiment without a legendary version
  • an open world version of the ring "conflux",Β  since this one is tied to WvW
  • an open world version of the ring "coalescence", since this one is tied to Raids

After all of these we could have legendary infusions, probably unlockable in a similar way of the legendary relic, maybe unlocks and crafting?

We'll see, but I expect something different than legendaries as a change.

You mean those who crafted a full legendary armor set for that category.

what? Sorry, I don’t understand.

anyhow, I was talking about how the 7th rune was crafted primarily to have the 6th bonus from the runes while underwater. This used to be the more powerful bonus. However, after the introduction of the relic, it became somewhat irrelevant whether or not you have a rune on your aquabreather. And originally, they were supposed to give a free legendary relic to those who crafted all 7 runes but ended up giving it to anyone with just one, leaving those with the 7th rune with nothing as compensation.

Hmm...maybe some "new" weapon skin could be cool as legendary weapons:

Β

Gen 4 Legendary weapons

(unusual weapons)

Β

Staff - Two handed spear
Scepter - One handed staff
Hammer - Greataxe
Sword - One handed spear
Greatsword - Giant twinblade or Halberd.
Pistol - One handed crossbow or arm canon
Rifle - Machine Crossbow
Shortbow - Small Slingshot
Longbow - Big slingshot
Axe - Warsickle
Dagger - "unarmed" stab weapon
Mace - One handed hammer or flail
Warhorn - Flute/harmonica
Focus - jojo bizarre adventure stand(reflect what race you are)
Torch - unarmed magic, better touch of fog/madness (reflect what proffession you are?)
Shield - Small buckle shield/minimal shield (almost unarmed)
