How do you travel to the Eye of the North?

I understand it that the "show me" button is the actual stuff the mail text hints at. Shows only the WP though and since I'm far away from that point in the story I won't use it. Curious about the mentioned Asura Gate. (Would make sense if it led to LA.) But you might see that once you enter there. (Or the Asuran Gate isn't part of the map and only used as explanation on how they could get a working WP for you there.)

The Asura Gate inside leads to the Strikes. It works the same way as the Fractal one does

i have a "hall of monuments portal stone" that takes me there, but it's an instance, not the open world version of the map. is that intentional?

Yes, it takes you to the "old" hall of monuments prior icebrood saga.The scrying pool can also take you there..

EotN has a WP accessible by every character on the account. There’s absolutely zero need for a portal scroll.

use portal to go to grothmar valley first then use WP, a lot cheaper

Use the Hall of Monuments Portal Stone to go to the original instance. Open the full map, and you will then see the Waypoint. Use the Waypoint (it will warn you that it is outside the instance) for 1s18c instead of 3s or more. I still anticipate a portal scroll being available for the latest Tome at some point.

I see your chuckle and raise you a guffaw - Andrew Gray just announced that they will add Eye of the North to the Icebrood Saga portal tome. It would seem that even ANet thinks that convenience areas should be convenient.(edited - grammar)
