RIBA/Silverwastes events give almost no XP. Is this a bug?

Recommended Posts

I was doing RIBA yesterday in Silverwastes because I heard it's great for Tyria XP and I wanted to get the final mastery done with so I could get auto-loot pickup.

Within just 10-15min I started noticing the events barely give any XP. Escort and the Champions/Veteran Events seemed to give the least, a measly 2.6k XP. Defending the towers would give me random XP. Some towers would give around 20k, others only 4k or so. Often times I would get more XP from getting Silver on an Event in comparison to Gold. For example, doing Escort, I would get 2.6k with Gold reward but slightly over 7k for Silver. How does that even work? I ran around the map with the commander, copying what he did, killing enemies etc. but I feel like I was the only one being penalized. I read that GW2 has some anti-botting system in place but I don't see how I could get tagged for botting when I was literally running around the whole map doing pretty much every Event that appeared.

I was just really annoyed yesterday because I wasted the very few XP boosters I have and some of the enemies I killed actually gave me more XP than an entire Event did. It makes no sense.

You might want to read through this wiki article on this subject:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Diminishing_returns

In short: you hit diminishung returns after X amount of events.

That's the anti-botting thing right? Seems like a flawed system if it tagged me for doing what I was supposed to do; the map meta. This is the first time I ever experienced anything like this. I guess all the Escort/Veteran events are treated the same so the "DR" system that's in place thinks I'm doing the "exact" same event over and over again even though I'm killing different Veterans and doing multiple Escort events. That's the only explanation I can think of. If that's the case then Silverwastes is pretty terrible for XP IMO.

If you want XP, I suggest Auric Basin and Dragonstand. Plenty of things to kill and plenty of chain events. Finishing main steps in the meta also gives big chunks of xp. I use both of them for Spirit Shard farming.

Those don't give Tyria XP. They're HoT expansion maps.

It's not just an anti-botting mechanic, it's also intended to stop players from just farming one area of the game over and over, even if they are genuinely playing. I think it's intended to stop players treating GW2 like some other MMOs where the best way to level up is to find and claim a 'grind spot' and just stay there killing everything which spawns over and over, and also intended to stop gold farmers all piling into one map and abandoning others.

It can target specific events but it can also target maps - if you stay in the same map going round and round doing different events, or just farming enemies, eventually you'll hit DR and will stop getting drops and XP. It happens in instances too - I had this problem with the Marionette because although I was doing other things in between I was using different characters so that one was just spending a few minutes standing in the Eye of the North between Marionette fights and that wasn't enough to reset it.

I think the XP thing is just oversight. SW has been a gold farm since time immemorial  -- just as botters have been a problem.

I don't think i've ever seen anyone who isn't a bot in any major MMO just sitting there in one spot to grind XP. Most MMOs are grinded out through dungeons, and if not, through questing...not individual mob kills.

People will do it in Elder Scrolls Online. There's a few areas where you can virtually guarantee you'll see players balling up and AoE killing large numbers of enemies over and over. I don't think it's the best way to get XP but it is one of the simplest and pretty much anyone can do it solo whereas dungeons either need a group or you already need to be a high level to do them solo.

I haven't played either but I've heard it's common in Black Desert Online and I think ArchAge as well. Oh, it used to happen in World of Warcraft too but I'm not sure if it still does.

Might not be helpful on a level 80 character, unless they've trained masteries. Core zones give core experience and HoT zones give HoT experience. Unless that person isn't leveling masteries, of course and just going for spirit shards, this advice may or may not be useful.

I've only ran into that problem in SW when I did the same pack bull event repeatedly. Doing the full RIBA rotation shouldn't have that issue.

Although for core mastery exp I would probably go with fractal or dungeons instead or bouncing between world bosses and their pre-events.

I did full RIBA and the DR hits me almost right away. I even left and did WvW for like 15-20min and when I came back to RIBA, 10min later I'm getting 10% XP from events again. It's not like I'm farming the same event over and over. Like I said in my previous post, I ran with the squad around the entire map, doing all the events but I still got hit with DR.

The only reason why I even went out of my way to specifically farm Tyria XP as fast as possible is because I was tired of spamming "F" to pickup loot. You do an event with lots of mobs and your finger starts to hurt pretty fast. I don't think people with masteries remember just how bad it really is. I think ArenaNet is pretty scummy to lock an essential feature like that behind a mastery, not to mention the highest tier mastery. That's a lot of XP to farm. The final tier alone is like over 4mil XP. If each event gives you 20k, that takes a lot of time so of course I wanted to do it as efficiently as I can.

I'm new enough that I certainly can remember what it was like before I had auto-looting, so I can sympathize. Now that I have all the Core Tyria masteries, however, I barely even take any notice of how much or how little experience I get in those areas anymore (with the one exception from when I was recently levelling up an alt, I discovered that the skyscale rift closing achievements were great for this, but I'm assuming you're a new player with no skyscale yet).
