Kinda disappointed that just virtuoso got shown today

Was really hyped since I thought I would finally get to know the elite spec for my main (engineer) and which weapons to craft for the expansion, but here we are, mesmer got a sneak peek for their elite spec and can start getting their daggers while the rest of us has to wait for months to get any idea about what to expect for their classes. =/ Am really let down by this right now.

If they do by armor weight and one a week, it definitely will be months if you are the ninth profession.

Yeah, two of them. Not what people normally associate with the term.

It's about six months from the August beta to release. They'll all be revealed by the third beta. So if they're spread out roughly evenly, that might extend it to November. Which is still technically months plural, but again, not what I associate with the term 'waiting for months'.

Granted, I'm disappointed we didn't get more too, but even in the worst-case scenario there'll probably be plenty of time to get that one (or two?) more legendary weapon(s) or whatever.

That was just hypothetical...the actual schedule is literal month's:

  • Beta Event 1: August 17—August 21
  • Beta Event 2: September 21—September 25
  • Beta Event 3: October 26—October 30
  • Beta Event 4: November 30—December 4

So if you are spec 9 you won't know until around 11/30 what it actually is 😄

Well this particular point I don’t think we can hold against anet. It’s exciting to learn about all the new specs regardless of what your main is. Who and what you are playing is half the fun, the other half is who you’re fighting *against* 🙂

I honestly highly disagree with the sentiment. After almost 5 years since the last batch of elite specs and being what is arguably what mostly changes how you interact with the game, I was really looking forward to finding out about all the new specs. Mesmer is by far one of the classes I play the least and I'm honestly kind of annoyed it always get the lovechild treatment with anet, since in HoT it was also the first one revealed. PoF did it right revealing them all at the same time so no matter who you mained you would not feel left out.

You do realize that they said each of the first 3 betas will have 3 of the elite specs to test. That would mean worst case scenario you find out your profession by mid October.

Eh. I think there are bigger things to be concerned with regarding this game littered with problems in every game mode.

Also, we all know Guardian is anets love child, not mesmer. Mesmer isn’t even that great, relies on busted stat combos to be effective (tb) but those are available on all classes.

Eeeeh guardian is definitely the strongest class atm balance-wise, but mesmers have had a long history of being anet's favorite class given their appearances in the story in general and the amount of love they get when they are designed. If you think GW2 I'd argue Mesmer would come to mind before Guardian.

Yeah, when I posted, the schedule hadn't been.

But like someone else said, all of the elites are due to be revealed by the third beta at the end of October. So the worst-case scenario is three months from now. Yes, that's technically months, but not generally what people think when someone says "that's months away". It's also likely that the 9th specialisation will be revealed before October 26.

I could see sceptre working for engineer with an appropriate elite specialisation skin.

Regarding an alchemy focus in general: elixirs are pretty limited to just 'potions you can drink'. There's a lot of other stuff that can be done with an alchemy theme, some of which the engineer does already do (poisons, explosives, and the like generally come under alchemy), but I could definitely see that expanded. Wouldn't be the first time an elite specialisation has been made through expanding on things that were already associated with the profession.

Scepter and focus are the weapons I want the least for engineer, everything else I am fine with.

Broadly speaking, I'd have picked mace first if it was an alchemy theme for the aspergillum theme, but I could see that working with scepter as well, while leaving mace open to be used for something more percussive. So engineer with scepter is something I'd reserve judgement on until I see it.

YMMV, though. I'd probably be content with anything that isn't an offhand as long as it's done well. (And I'd take an offhand if it was paired with a MH or engineer getting an additional MH option as core.)

Unfortunately I suspect we will need to wait until after the Beta1 to be able to see an sneak peek of the medium armor professions (engi, ranger and thief)

Not that much of wait thou so it's fine by me.

I find this constant obsession with pink class (raids say hello) absolutely disgusting at this point. Of course, everyone would love to see preview of their main class but i would rather see anything else but mesmers and guards.

Eh, being the first to be revealed doesn't mean it'll be the most impactful to the meta in the end.

At first glance, it pretty much looks to be for mesmer as soulbeast was for ranger - a means of disconnecting from being reliant on AI-controlled allies. The skills looked like they gave out a fair amount of damage in the presentation, but not much that the mesmer didn't already have outside of "F1-F4 skills that don't rely on clones".
