  1. eh idk, i like it thematically much more than rangers/hunters in other rpg, and soulbeast is such a cool archetype to me as far as a spec goes, like lemme just merge my soul with my buddies, 10/10 but man, there's a lot of really frustrating things like, pets being simultaneously a gigantic threat (from a highly skilled random CC or whatever) and also potentially completely useless is really crappy i feel like a lot of the mechanics of the class are pretty poorly done and the class is limited in a lot of ways that i never felt about it in GW1
  2. I know that most players are just trying to get their boxes done as efficiently as possible, but man the amount of necro players is really draining. I'm just trying to have some fun while I finish my boxes man. Ranger's not that great in 2s but it's really rough this go around. 😕
  3. Mate what no lol That bug was fixing creating multiple tendrils You can literally hop on, stun a dummy and hit it and watch it function the way he's saying.
  4. yo i wanna be really mad so here's another one take the damage off lightning reflexes already because i'm sick and tired of it immediately failing despite being an evade because of shocking aura it literally serves no purpose, the damage doesn't need to exist, it never should have from the very start
  5. wat lol You mean seed? Of course it's stupid. Everyone knows that. But immobilize is not seeds. Taking out immob as a condition entirely because it's not "fun" would mean you need to take out every debuff. Blind's not fun, it makes me miss my big buttons. Stuns aren't cool cause I can't hit buttons in em. Daze locks my fun out. Debuffs make the player suffering have less fun. That's the point. They make it harder to fight. Doesn't mean they need removed as an entire mechanic.
  6. Axe builds are okay, but I think this is something that you can apply a bit more broadly across the entire class, honestly. You more or less NEED a ranged weapon, because ranger isn't a great toe to toe class, and so your choices become fairly limited, and GS is an incredibly strong weapon. It's actually something I've been curious about when it comes to the next elite spec as well. Like, a brawler spec? Bunny thumper or something? The elite itself has to be extremely overloaded so that you're beefy enough to stay in. A long range condi more or less invalidates shortbow, 1hers have to compete with the ranged weapon choice + greatsword, and so on. I don't know that LB/GS necessarily need nerfed (or rather, that doing so would actually do anything besides just make ranger worse relative to other choices), and I don't think it falls solely on those two weapons, but rather how the class ends up playing in PvP that limits your options. And most of that falls on a combination of traits, utilities, and mechanics, rather than solely the weapon.
  7. Seeds is dumb but literally no CC will ever be "fun" for anyone who has to get hit by it. Not hitting buttons isn't fun. Not getting to play isn't fun. It won't ever be. Doesn't mean a mechanic needs removed. Like I can't even imagine a player in a more real pvp game using the same line of logic, they'd get made fun of and deserve it.
  8. I wish MH dagger had an evade on the leap or something. Maybe they're afraid of it and sword becoming too similar, but it's really pretty underwhelming in PvP.
  9. Did... did they? I don't think they did very much at all. Really hard to qualify any of that as "trying too hard," to me. If anything that came quite a bit later with the pro league and stuff.
  10. The game didn't even launch with any form of matchmaking or rated play and took like over a year to finally implement it (somewhere there, I left pretty quickly when the old tournaments ended up being just rando pugs vs premades). I'm not sure that's very true at all. It had essentially nothing to foster development of a PvP scene.
  11. Not explicitly related to archetypes, but this is a problem with pets in general lol They're all so bad except for like 5 of them. Out of 55? Oof. Half of em can't even hit a moving target (but Signet of Humility moa'd pets can cause ???) Gameplay and balance concerns aside, I don't know that it's that fitting in a lot of the missing cases. I feel like it's more likely that they add a couple pets here and there where they fit, such as a supportive moa. Make it the green or golden one idk. Like, a stout spider/bird doesn't necessarily make that much sense, y'know? Arachnids aren't exactly the most sturdy things and birds got them hollow bones. Fantasy game and all but within the rules of the game they aren't exactly the most beefy. Maybe if the GW1 Phoenix shows up in Cantha it could be stout since magic or something.
  12. It's not. It's been that way from the very beginning, intentionally so. Even the wiki's always made a point of telling players it's been possible. Soulbeast being able to swap pets while downed is almost certainly unintentional, but the skills being usable isn't. Not to say it isn't a bad mechanic or anything, just that it's probably something they've considered and decided they wanted. Anyways, I think the issues people have with pets like this run into a larger, overall problem with how they function and their significance and it's something GW1 handled a lot better, where pets were just damage bots unless specifically commanded using selected skills, a bit boring but also a healthier mechanic imo. I don't think pets could be easily (or realistically) changed right now to something less annoying to fight, but pets being fairly significant threats passively, having things like tiger leap, the random extra knockdowns and stuff isn't particularly fun for anyone involved. The ranger player doesn't earn half his high skill pet CCs, and everything else fails miserable because pet AI is garbage. I've been really hoping EoD comes with a full scale rework of how pets function and are controlled, but I don't think it's that likely.
  13. It's not something I expected to see in a patch like this, but man, I was really hoping to see them shake up pets. They so badly need remade. There's like 3 that can hit moving targets, nobody enjoys the random CC, stats and skills are wildly imbalanced between them all. Maybe in the expac. basically i wanna use a lizard or the aquastalker (cheetah, whatever) but they're all pretty crappy
  14. Traps competing with your stunbreaks and other utilities make them extremely difficult to balance. A lot of damage based utility slot skills run into similar issues. Things like stunbreaks and condi clears are so ridiculously valuable that giving them up is a decision a lot of builds don't really do. One slot at best, basically. You die too easily otherwise. For them to be of equal value to other utilities means making them ridiculously strong in terms of damage (as that's most of their value), or adding a bunch of non-damage effects that mirror other utilities, at which point you're largely just creating clones of other skills with an extra effect on it and then it comes down to a basic math decision of "is A or B better" They would probably work better as a weapon set competing against other weapons, or like engi kits. It's not a perfect solution, but I definitely think it'd be a lot more functional than what they are now.
  15. I don't understand the Viper's Nest change. The only place it gets used is underperforming condi builds in PvP for the healing from Predator's Cunning. The poison damage isn't as important as extra healing, and it's a 1/3rd reduction (6 applications vs 9) in that for... no real reason?Probably minor, all things considered, but why do it? Wonder if it makes it closer to Flame Trap in PvE or something.
  16. It's partly in what they're working on, but honestly MMO PvP just isn't a popular subset of the genre. Heck, MMOs in general are pretty stagnant, let alone their PvP.They're all decreasing in PvP participation. MMO players by and large aren't interested in PvP and never will be. That's just not why they play them.New blood doesn't come in because younger people don't really play them either. At least not in any significant enough number to matter. All you've got is an aging playerbase that isn't interested in PvP, and starts dropping games anyways as they get older. I think that's a lot bigger factor of PvP losing numbers, especially in an older game like GW2.You start adding on things like people getting tired of the game no matter how good it is and all the other reasons people stop playing and it's really not a surprise they all struggle to pull numbers into a competitive mode.
  17. Been playing similar builds pretty much exclusively this season cause core and sic em are boring. They're a lot of fun, but man, dagger and even sword are pretty underwhelming weapons. Unflinching Fortitude's so nice off Siamoth/Wolf/Whatever. Really helps since this build doesn't really get away with running triple stunbreak like core.Quick question for you or anyone playing with a stout pet, do you notice it bugging at all? There's times where I'll merge and press it, the buff goes up but I'll still be taking damage. Just last night I had a reaper do a spinny spin on me and I got eaten despite having the buff up. Not sure how to replicate, but it always seems to happen at the worst times. :l
  18. nah it's gonna happen, loleven if birds die relatively easily it's still coming so at the same time let's also make the other... 45 pets in the game not suck so bad. like, across all game modes there's like 5 pets that see any use and that's dumb.why can moas not hit a moving target but Signet of Humility on said moa makes it capable of doing so? how's that even a thing with the AI? or let me start customizing pet skills/stats so i can have mister bear be useful instead of a dumpster truck
  19. can they make it actually capable of catching people who hold the w key too?been playing almost exclusively d/d in pvp for the last 2 weeks cause i'm bored, and my goodness it's just SUCH a mediocre skill in general.no evade, bad tracking, for a pve-only weapon the quickness is pretty useless, pretty eh damage, long cast time, bleh
  20. You can just merge and unmerge and it's at full hp lolIf anything, soulbeast is better at soloing than druid or core because of the ability to rez pet every 10s instead of 20/60.
  21. Comparing things in a vacuum in a game where class abilities and weapon kits are meant to be significantly different is silly. GS might need another nerf for Ranger, but this isn't very solid reasoning.
  22. Red Moa's command skill is a buff, lolIt literally doesn't do damage. There is no "missing" because there's nothing for it to land, it's just an aoe buff around it. Anyways, pet AI is horrible in pretty much every way and it hurts them as a mechanic and the game would have been better off if they were optional from the very beginning like GW1. oh also a fun fact, pets that can't hit moving targets, including moas, can hit them if you hit the pet with Signet of HumilityIt's hilarious.
  23. I wonder if people would be angry about any of the various beastmaster builds that existed in GW1.Pets in that game were simply autoattack bots and the ranger controlled all the active abilities.I suspect so, if only because of a change in attitude and expectations for a video game from then and now. I fully understand and support nerfing passive pet damage (and bird actives and other untelegraphed stuff), but I can't really help but wonder what people consider to be "different" about an activated skill like Tiger's leap. It's highly telegraphed, controlled by the player, and on an extremely squishy pet. The only thing different about it is the direction from which it comes from. Also, Sind and his chat are absolutely hilarious and regularly extremely tilted about rangers to the point where they throw together everything ranger has available into one build that doesn't actually exist. Not to mention really weird claims about it having the most stealth uptime and better map mobility than thief, stuff like that. Like I get it, ranger's annoying, there's tons to be mad about with it and tons to be mad about with thief, but dudes keep pullin things out of thin air and it's so far off reality that it doesn't mean anything.
  24. Also a strong chance they nerf both pets and MM and not just one or the other, tbh.
  25. Mini siege turtle would be amazing, but maybe a bit unfitting as a pet. Same for a kirin or saltspray dragon since those aren't very beastly. The turtles, and if we keep stickin around in EotN areas, the dinos would be a ton of fun to see though. Would love to see them rework it so you could change the pet's model. Like, white tiger and tiger were the same pet but just looked different. Curious to see what they end up doing with pets, since there's already a ton and like all but like.. 8 are kinda useless and I don't think it's particularly fun for anyone when something they want really badly ends up sucking (peench peench crab better be the strongest pet ever), especially if they want to do something other than open world.
