50 gold for bank service in Eye of the North

They could just leave the price and people could decide to not get it. Afaik an achievement is tied to get everything though - then again: There are other more costly achievements (that cost far more - where you do need to create ugly skins or the one just for paying 1000 gold for a title lol)

This is why I took one look at the EotN and went, "Nope".

It would have been nice for nostalgia's sake to have EotN be my new lounge, but not at the expense required just to get services I already have access to elsewhere.

Yup, lounge passes are totally worthless, cause you have same services elsewhere <- would follow same logic. It's best free hub for players who doesn't have EoD, even if they need to spend some money

Um.... okay?

Honestly, if I didn't have a lounge, I would have passed on upgrading EotN and continued to use Rata Sum. But if you found EotN upgrades worth it, more power to you.

It can be annoying though, as I've personally experienced. Because you can get to 11/12 on the achievement without realizing how expensive it's going to be to finish and then it's just sitting in your nearly completed achievement forever, taunting any OCPD tendencies you may have. I've honestly considered blowing 50g on it before just to get it out of that window, but then it will be replaced by some other objective I might not want to do. So I guess the bigger problem here is that the nearly completed section can be annoying in general.

I think , this is a mistake, if you unlocked (mostly) everything it's a very nice Hub, where things are close together (opposed to Arborstone or LS) you have a scroll to port to and a Portal to many places (not just to Lion Arch as in Arborstone).

Gargabe is, that your poistion in EotN isn't remembered (it's really the only map with this feature/bug, isn't it?).

Personally, I use it as a hub, but without "official" bank. I don't need guild bank, so I just use crafting station as bank. The one thing I dislike is how it spawns you in the center every time. Never saves your position. I guess because it's a special kind of instance.

5g would be more reasonable

Agreed. It really feels like a sunk cost fallacy trap as it is. That or some weird typo nobody ever corrected. Most of the unlocks are very cheap by comparison. Prob the most costly is the 10 laurels for specialist vendors, given you can only get laurels from login rewards. The tools are all under a gold each (only leather even comes close to being a gold). And the 3 mystic coins would be over 3 gold at some of its higher prices, but right now is less than a gold per, so even that doesn't even break 3 gold in total. Plus you can pick them up from login rewards too. And the eternal ice and chili trader part you can fall out of bed getting 10 of those for it. I'm also not sure those last two are even part of the achievement anyway.

If they really want the last to be a big cost for no apparent reason, I could live with something like 1k eternal ice as an alternative cost for the bank. Just don't make me choose between a borderline-nothing QOL upgrade and things I can get so much more enjoyment out of for years to come (there is countless stuff I can still spend gold on).

These people never heard of gold sinks

Funny thing about gold sinks, they impact some of the population more than others.

You can aggressively add gold sinks and never really touch the vast amount of wealth accumulated by those who play a lot and have played for a long time. At the same time you make more and more stuff that people who play less look at and just walk away from.

I'm not saying the game doesn't need them. TP tax and waypoint fees steadily nickel and dime currency out of circulation. But where and at what levels gold sinks are set determines their effect.

Unsure; I've played for a long time and have legendary armor / trinkets / etc. but struggling wanting to pay 300g for commander tag.

So, gold sinks may still affect longtime players, especially ones like me that almost all my wealth is tied up in mats and gear, only have I think ~200g liquid to my name at the moment.

But for me gold sinks in this game are far less annoying than time sinks.  Things like running Draconis Mons for days on end for Aurora or Meteor watching for Vision, or Funerary Incense grinding, etc.

Gold sinks are usually supposed to be something highly desirable, not something barely useful at all at the end of an achievement that gives 1 AP.

And this game is not hurting for such things at all. It has the ecto gambling type stuff, for example. It has legendaries, which always include some liquid gold taken out of the game. Heck, we're in the middle of a festival right now that has a gold sink built right into one of its main events, the boss blitz; literally costs gold to get it going.

If the bank at eye of the north is supposed to be a gold sink, it's an embarrassing attempt at one in a game that otherwise handles gold sinks really well. I would rather believe there's something else going on here, than that they thought such a thing was needed to remove gold from the game.

It is a gold sink. Pointless upgrade for gold.

So we're just going to repeat what we already went over? I already explained in detail how this game has plenty of gold sinks that are effective at being a gold sink and this isn't one.
