Jan 2023 Patch very slow o~O

Same here ... 1-10KB/s and the forum pages are also loading extremely slow.
Only connections to Anet servers are affected.
Everything else works just fine.

Maybe Anet hired Elon Musk to "check" which parts of their infrastructure are actually needed. 

Update: It took roughly 2 hours to join the club of "locked-heal-skillers". Totally worth it!

Experiencing the same thing as everyone else in this thread so far.

Something in the back of my mind is sort of telling me that this happened a while back when they did some sort of update to every map in the game world, which used a ton of very tiny files? This patch is well over 130k files, maybe its something to do with that?

Edit - starting to run a little quicker but it has now downloaded over 500Mb, thats quite a bit larger than normal Festival patches, wonder if its something to do with the upcoming DX11 changeover?

Further Edit - Finally completed. Total patch size is just over 900Mb   Think we have downloaded more than a Festival update....

And it has stopped dead three times for so long that the download bar itself has vanished.

The patch had 123k files that were < 1 KB and another 39k < 10 KB. Small files take longer to request than to download, so it's simply not possible to reach higher speeds. The same is true if you try to copy files like this on your own drive vs copying 1 large file (minutes vs seconds to copy).

You can somewhat speed it up by using the option "-patchconnections 20" to double the number of files GW2 downloads at a time.

Internet speed isn't the issue, its the fact it is patching 165K files for some reason and most of those files are very small, so its as much about 'processing' as it is download.

My guess is that they made some changes to the shader files for DX11 and that basically affected every shader file the game has and those files are just about always very small.

Most Steam games pack the files in one big file and after the download they unpack it, its a way faster with a SSD today.

yea, but they forgot to update their decade old game updating system.

Anyone tried delete the game files and redownload the whole game again instead of update patching old files? At this speed, redownload full 60GB maybe more faster...
