Chaos.3205
Still difficult to log in, but not impossible. Every 2nd or 3rd login is a success. Black Lion panel stil isn't working. But, there is still hope. There's some serious silent updating going on, obviously. Silent, but deadly 😉
Altriba.8092
No changes on my end, CEF crashes when i try to log in, looking at it the CEF version in use is still 103.0.10.0 so i presume they are trying to get it to function in that version rather than changing to another, hopefully they can figure that out somehow. EDIT: ah i see, the patch was not related to CEF, thus no changes, understood, will wait patiently for this issue to get its turn. Oneiroid.9245
Windows 7 user here. Update causes launcher to freeze (infinitely) upon typing in password and hitting enter. Appending the -usecoherent argument to the launcher shortcut fixes it (game launches just fine, and I can view the gemstore loading in). edit: more specifics just in case-- i am indeed running dx11 and dx11 hasn't caused issues for me thus far (other than minor and pretty inconsequential graphical errors here and there, but that's nothing new). i'm not using any other command line arguments on my launcher, only -usecoherent now. Leablo.2651
Windows 7 here. Launcher works fine, gameplay works fine except CEF crashes with a Windows system pop-up every time I try to load TP or exit the zone. (It automatically restarts, but the message steals focus every time and doesn't go away by itself.) I uploaded a screen cap to Reddit. https://i.redd.it/dynrpoigypua1.png 1
TreeDude.7480
Can we expect Anet to support 15yr old HW along with an OS that is out of support? There needs to be a line in the sand somewhere. Upgrade your PCs ppl. 2 1 1
tmorrow.5189
Post patch I had the "UI does nothing problem" where either the login button or the play button won't work (after a dozen tries).. As suggested above, I added the -coherent option to the GW2 shortcut and it worked perfectly. I'm on an old system running Windows 7. Worth a shot guys until a proper fix is rolled out by Arenanet. If it doesn't work, it's easy to undo and wait for a patch.

firewire.4813
Checking <gw2_dir>/bin64/cef/ArenaNet.log , I get repeats of the following lines at random times when I try to login or open the gem store: Quote App: CefHost.exe Fatal error (0): Javascript not handled? Function: __sendMessage Exception Code: 0 (0 0) When: 4/18/2023 22:38:29 File: D:\Perforce\Feature-Raids\Code\Arena\Tools\CefHost\CefHost.cpp(256) Edit: Win7, happens at random times and will log the above error whenever the WER dialog pops up. Azelroth.6801
I also can't launch the game after the latest update/patch. I've deleted the gw2.dat file and also added the -usecoherent string in the launch command line and although I can get the launcher running it still won't run the game. 1 1

However this isn't going to last forever and I would look into upgrading your video card as the 9800 GT has a feature level of 10_0 .. and DX11 requires feature level 11_0. This is why the game doesn't run on DX11 for you. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-minimum-system-requirements-update/ Edited April 19, 2023 by Vegeta.2563

There needs to be a line in the sand somewhere. Upgrade your PCs ppl. I do agree with you that W7 is past its expiration date, but the official minimum system requirements are still W7 64 bit, see https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/201862958-Minimum-System-Requirements. It is possible that in the near future ArenaNet will (or has to) update these minimum system requirements, but for the moment they have to make sure the game runs on W7. 2
Eloc Freidon.5692
As soon as the popup shows, the launcher just can't be interacted with. You have to close the window in the taskbar to do anything with it. The Chromium browser has always been trash. Don't rely on it to make your game function. Workaround: Don't use your mouse to interact with the launcher and use the keyboard instead. It may still give you a Chromium issue, but start over until it works. While in game the Chromium browser window may still pop up. Just close it and ignore it. Edited April 19, 2023 by Eloc Freidon.5692

These are my settings.json: {"arguments":["-NoMusic","-useOldFov","-mapLoadinfo", "-usecoherent","-dx9"]} This fix the whole mess, the chromium crash and full screen mode. I'm under win 7 x64. Iriko Sa Itchi.3765
I have the same problem, Work with -coherent, crashes with chromium. I'm on Win7 also and I don't want to change because: 1) Money 2) I don't like Win10-11 with they spyware and lots of things I don't want. 3) I have expensive other programs with Licenses and I don't want to reinstall 120GB of programs and Data. 4) I also have a MacOS, but Arena stopped the development of GW2 for Mac. I play GW since the first GW1, have buy all the Updates, but now, I'm disappointed.
Cplamer.7305
Hello, I'm having trouble logging into the game. I updated the Diretix video driver, and also, on your advice, inserted the -usecoherent command line, but I still can’t enter the GW2 game client. I will give screenshots, maybe they will help you. Thank you for attention. Thank you for flagging the problems and sharing specifics. We are keeping a close eye on this thread, so keep the info coming--dxdiag information will especially be useful as we keep investigating. Thanks for being patient as we work on this! How's the progress? When can we expect an update? Last time we had this a hotfix came after 4 hours or so. 🙂 As i saw in various forums this issue is critical to many people want to play GW2.

While Anet should support the minimum specs they list, I wouldn't trust it entirely since it's subject to change. Like this morning I noticed they've now removed the pre-EOD minimum specs from that page since dropping DX9 support yesterday. It's probably because they had, for example, the Nvidia 8800 GTS listed which didn't provide full DX11 support.
firewire.4813
Just because MS has stopped supporting anything other than the lastest OS, doesn't mean app developers have to. Take a look at WoW, they still support Win7, hell, even MS-DOS gets new apps from app developers from time-to-time. Us power users know what we're doing, so support (or lack thereof) from MS doesn't mean much. We also don't need MS holding our hand. The latest version of CEF works on Win7 (tested myself). CEF != Chromium, stop thinking that, they are different apps. One can work on Win7 while the other doesn't. CEF just uses the "Content module" rendering engine from the Chromium project, which doesn't rely on anything specific to Win10/11. Some users in this thread have reported similar issues in Win10/11, so it's not just a Win7 issue. The underlying architecture between Win7 (or Vista) and Win10/11 isn't that much different, except for UWP and DX12, neither of which GW2 uses. In theory, GW2 can run on anything Vista (x64) and higher as long as Anet doesn't deliberatly check for Win10/11 only, or use any Win10/11 specific Win32 calls (or switch to UWP or DX12, which would be really stupid of them). DX12 CAN work on Win7, with some limitations (see WoW, Blizz made it happen), google "DX 12on7". https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/76459 https://magpcss.org/ceforum/viewtopic.php?p=47965#p47965 https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/HEAD/content/README.md https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/porting-directx-12-games-to-windows-7/ https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/world-of-warcraft-uses-directx-12-running-on-windows-7/ 4 7 1

Cplamer.7305
After doing command lines -usecoherent -dx9 My client is running. But the game client began to slow down very much, as if the mesmer began to stop me. Thank you all for the information on the launch of the client, I will wait for corrections from the developers themselves, I hope they can handle it. However, I didn’t think that I would have to take my shaman tambourine and dance over the fire to start the client.:)https://ibb.co/WyW3mPk Edited April 19, 2023 by Cplamer.7305

Have you ever developed software? The end-user isn't the only person affected when a company drops support. There's all sorts of development libraries and tools that no longer get supported either. And when new versions are released to support newer hardware, the older stuff ends up falling by the wayside. A developer has to maintain the old hardware and development environment for the older stuff as updates happen and that can cause big headaches when code gets split. Ironically, you mention WoW, which has minimum specs of now of DX12, not the DX9 it was originally released with.
