Mystic forge stone is more convenient being in the bank itself because you can use it straight from the bank into the mystic forge, rest of these I agree with though.

Soo essences. That's it. Put those in the wallet and I'm good . . .

Mat storage tends to be a not very good solution for things bc it holds at most ten stacks so it doesn't really save you all that much space and the things that you really want to get rid of tend to accumulate in much larger quantities so it doesn't make that much of a dent. Then there are also other considerations like for luck, where you don't want to encourage new players to dump them into mat storage instead of eating them . . .

"Everything that is a material should be able to be deposited"

Wouldn't work, for example Apples they are purchased with karma. Traditionally anything you purchase with karma (e.g. heart vendor items) is not directly sellable to both vendor and trading post because Anet tries to be careful letting you convert karma to gold.

Baubles and Baubles Baubles = have to be in your inventory to work inside SAB due to technical limitations - they can't be detected from the bank or material storage. So they probably don't want to allow them to be deposited to prevent confusion. They can't be a currency AND also be ammo for things like the slingshot and bombs inside SAB and the reason is likely that it'll make the purse upgrade pointless if you can just deposit whenever your wallet may get full.

Whenever they add something to material storage - which is a fully manual process every time - it becomes impossible to remove in the future, so they are very cautious when it comes to adding something. They only add it if their metrics on how players obtain and use that item indicate that it could benefit from a material storage slot.

For example, some intermediate crafting materials, like Scribe's pens, don't go into material storage because their only purpose is to be immediately crafted into the next item. No rational player obtains a bunch of pens and then stops; they craft pens with the explicit goal of immediately making something else. These types of items don't often go into material storage for that reason.

Crafting materials most benefit from a material storage slot when you obtain them out in the wild and don't necessarily plan to craft them into anything right away or ever. Like, items you obtain while doing meta events benefit from you being able to press the Deposit button to clear some of your inventory.

Shing Jea Orchid Petals etc are account bound items you obtain in small quantities while already in a city, so you can just go throw them in the bank real quick if you're not going to craft with them yet.

Obviously, with ArenaNet, there are exceptions to literally everything. But crafting material storage follows general patterns as to what they put in and what they don't, and I think Shing Jea Orchid Petals in particular fit with the pattern.

Here (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Additions-to-Material-Storageyou can find a big thread about the last time there was a major update to Material Storage. You can see that there was a lot of time dedicated to understanding the limitations of the Material Storage system, indicating that the original people in charge of it were long gone at this point. Linsey Murdock herself left ArenaNet last year, so if anyone were to work on Material Storage in a significant way, they would probably need to rediscover a lot of the existing limitations again.

TLDR## the relevant quote:

"Reminder: Once an item has been added to Material Storage, it can never be removed or moved to a different category. However, I did get a small piece of tech to allow me to re-organize within each bucket and I’ll be doing some re-ordering work as part of this update."

I seem to remember they said years ago Super Adventure Box stuff can't go into the wallet because the way the vendors in the Box work is non-standard (the whole thing was originally made by 1 person as a hobby project) so they wouldn't be able to see them if they're not in your inventory. Although maybe things have changed since then and it could be revisited.

Mystic forge stone : I don't see the point, you won't have a lot of them

Shard seems niche, but why not (recipe with it require quite a lot of them)

SAB stuff : can't be done for technical reason

Agony infusion : I don't see the point, the only one you receive commonly as reward is +1, which already got a slot, it seems pointless to create X slot to other infusion, you said 3, 6 and 9, but you can rarely receive any number up to 9, if I remember well, and you probably won't ever have more than 4 of +2 to +8 at any point, anyway.

Luck : nope, it's meant to be consumed, not hoarded

Battle of lion arch currency : niche and semi pointless, you probably won't ever have more than a stack

I have two stacks of them in my bank.

There's a cap. Once you reach that cap, all you can do is hoard it and wait for Lunar New Year.

Edit: Actually, you need a full stack of it to make things like Gift of Research, too. So sometimes, you are meant to hoard it.

Well, legendary material. The new essence things? I mean, we don't have 60K material storage. ☺️

If it's something that needs to physically be used, add the ability, for some currencies, to convert the currency to item (button on currency tab) and back again (right-click context menu when clicking on applicable item stack).

I'm with you, I'd prefer wallet but material storage is okay too.  It makes no sense that they weren't in there from the beginning.  We'll chalk this one up to the 'oh yeah, forgot about those', right alongside forgetting about the Legendary Runes.

Do you ever get the sense that SoTo was made by people that are new to Anet or haven't played GW2 very much?

Doesn't changed what i said, I don't think you got them in a few months, probably more in a few years, so most people probably won't ever have more than a stack.

I know, but that concern only a small fraction of the playerbase.

And about crafting with it, that's really some specific special case where you're expected to take the active decision of hoarding, the main purpose of the item is consuming, not hoarding, by creating a slot, you'll change that main purpose to hoarding and lot of people who don't care about thing like legendary crafting would lost the occasion of consuming because it will end up in material storage and be forgotten. (And that's proven, not a baseless fact)

I tried to level a different craft by making a ton of dowels, because they didn't eat up trophies. Dowels could be used later when you know what gear you want to spend trophies on.

Also for recipe discovery, if they actually want us to experiment instead of just using a guide, it would be handy to have a lot of random ingredients on hand. Like the dressings and soup bases (yea i know some soup bases go in materials storage but upgraded ones do not) for cooking.

you might have some in inventory on multiple different characters tho, and not be sure which toon(s) have it. Posting for a friend, obv.

gw2efficiency

Also, that problem won't be solved by having a slot in material storage.
